đ§ Road Repairs Prompt Partial Lane Closures on Center Street

City of Mentor
Lane Closures on Center Street for Road Repairs Through June 27
Motorists traveling along Center Street near Norton Parkway should prepare for delays this week as portions of the inner northbound and southbound lanes are closed for roadway repairs. The closures, which began earlier this week, are expected to remain in place through Friday, June 27, 2025.
City crews are conducting maintenance and repairs to the pavement in the affected area. While work is underway, traffic will be rerouted to the outer lanes, and signage has been posted to assist drivers in navigating the detour.
Local officials advise drivers to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes if possible, particularly during peak commuting hours. The repairs are part of a broader effort to improve road conditions and enhance safety on one of the city's more heavily traveled corridors.
Weather permitting, the work is on track to be completed by the end of the week.

đĄ Vacationing This Summer? Hereâs Why You Shouldnât Turn Off Your AC

As summer temperatures climb, many homeowners heading out on vacation wonder whether to leave the air conditioner running while they're away. According to HVAC professionals, the answer is yesâbut with some strategic adjustments.
Leaving the AC on helps prevent heat and humidity from damaging electronics, spoiling food, and warping wooden furniture. It also protects houseplants and reduces the risk of mold growth. Indoor temperatures in an uncooled home can rise well above 90°F, even surpassing 100°F in some cases, which can lead to serious consequences for your belongings.
Additionally, returning to a hot home forces your AC to work much harder to bring temperatures back down, potentially straining the system and increasing the risk of breakdowns. By maintaining a moderate indoor temperature while you're away, you reduce wear and tear on your unit and ensure a more comfortable return.
Experts suggest setting your thermostat between 78°F and 80°F for most homes. This range balances energy efficiency with moisture control. If youâre leaving behind pets, delicate electronics, or indoor plants, lowering the setting to between 70°F and 75°F might be a better option. Local humidity should also be consideredâregions with high humidity may require cooler settings to control moisture levels effectively.
For longer trips, using ceiling fans or keeping the AC fan running can help circulate air without heavily taxing the system. Incorporating smart home technology, such as WiFi-enabled thermostats or humidistats, allows remote temperature monitoring and adjustments. This means you can turn the unit on shortly before you arrive home, ensuring comfort without unnecessary energy usage.
Ultimately, thereâs no strict time limit on how long your AC can stay on while you're away. It's more about how you use it. By setting it higher than usual, enabling air circulation, and using tech tools wisely, you can protect your home and conserve energy at the same time.

đ Contract Gridlock: Browns RB Judkins Among Dozens of Unsigned NFL Draft Picks
As the NFL offseason heads toward training camp, a surprising number of 2025 draft picks remain unsignedâ34 in total, including Cleveland Browns running back Quinshon Judkins. While most of the Browns' rookie class has finalized their contracts, Judkins, taken early in the second round, is still waiting.
At the center of the holdup are guaranteed contracts.
This issue surfaced in May when the Houston Texans gave wide receiver Jayden Higgins a fully guaranteed contract. That deal set a new benchmark, creating ripple effects across the league. The Browns had already signed linebacker Carson Schwesingerâpicked just before Higginsâto a fully guaranteed contract. Now, they must decide whether to do the same with Judkins, who was selected one pick after Higgins.
Attention is now on the Seattle Seahawks, who hold the third pick in the second round. If they refuse to fully guarantee safety Nick Emmanworiâs deal, other teams, including the Browns, may follow suit. But if Seattle offers full guarantees, Cleveland could feel obligated to do the same for Judkins.
Elsewhere, the standoff continues. Defensive end Shemar Stewart, a Bengals second-rounder, remains unsigned over voidable guarantees. First-round cornerback Jahdae Barron also hasn't signed with the Denver Broncos, and no clear reason has emerged. The Jaguars, meanwhile, havenât reached deals with fourth-rounders Bhayshul Tuten and Jack Kiser.
Overall, 30 second-round picks remain unsigned. Until Seattle acts, the Brownsâand much of the NFLâremain in contract limbo.
