⚾ Mistakes Pile Up in Guardians' Shutout Loss to Blue Jays
The Cleveland Guardians struggled both offensively and defensively in Thursday’s series finale, falling 6-0 to the Toronto Blue Jays at Progressive Field. Toronto claimed the three-game series behind a dominant outing from starter Kevin Gausman, who allowed just two hits over eight innings.
Cleveland's only offense came early—a first-inning double from Steven Kwan and a fourth-inning single by Kyle Manzardo. That was all the Guardians could muster against Gausman, who struck out six and walked one before handing the ball to reliever Chad Green in the ninth.
The Guardians’ defense unraveled in the third inning, helping the Blue Jays score three runs without needing much offensive firepower. A pair of errors by Manzardo, two wild pitches from starter Tanner Bibee, and a two-run single by Nathan Lukes opened the door. A third run scored on another Manzardo miscue as Toronto pulled ahead 3-0.
Bibee (4-8) pitched six solid innings despite the breakdowns, giving up three hits and two earned runs. Toronto added three more runs in the ninth after loading the bases on a single and two walks. Pinch-hitter Alejandro Kirk knocked in two, and a throwing error by Kwan brought in a third.
Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left the game in the third after being hit by a pitch from Bibee. X-rays were negative, and he was diagnosed with a forearm contusion.
The loss capped a rollercoaster series. Cleveland won Wednesday’s matchup on a José Ramirez walk-off, after dropping Tuesday’s opener on a grand slam by George Springer.

⚾ Big Fourth Inning Propels Lake County Past West Michigan
The Lake County Captains powered their way to a 10-6 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps on Thursday, backed by timely hitting, disciplined plate appearances, and pitching that was good enough to pull out the win.
Relief pitcher Yorman Gomez improved to 6-0 on the season pitched 4.2 innings and gave up 4 runs. While the Whitecaps made a push late in the game, the Captains' offense proved too much, tallying 12 hits and drawing seven walks over the course of the night.
Lake County struck early and pulled away in the fourth inning with a scoring surge. Christian Knapczyk and Alfonsin Rosario delivered consecutive RBI singles, followed by a sharp double from Ralphy Velazquez that stretched the lead to 5-2. That inning proved to be the turning point, pushing the Captains' win probability to over 90%.
The Whitecaps responded in the sixth with a three-run homer from Peyton Graham, trimming the deficit to 10-5, but couldn’t mount a full comeback. Despite the offensive spark, West Michigan never fully recovered from the damage dealt in the middle innings.
The win secured another step forward for the Captains, whose balanced offensive attack and pitching depth continue to carry them through the season.
