š¦ Updated Mosquito Treatment Schedule Released for Lake County
The Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) has issued an updated mosquito treatment schedule for summer 2025. Targeting densely populated areas, the effort aims to reduce mosquito-borne illnesses such as La Crosse Encephalitis, St. Louis Encephalitis, and West Nile Virus.
The next scheduled spray is set for Monday, July 7, in Mentor 1B, which includes the eastern part of Mentorāspecifically the Center/Munson area, Lagoons, LSB, and Corduroy Roadāweather permitting.
Spraying may be delayed or canceled due to:
Low mosquito counts
Winds over 15 mph

Temperatures under 55°F
Mechanical issues or Air Quality Advisories
Treatment decisions are based on trap data, complaints, and past activity. LCGHD is licensed by the Ohio Department of Agriculture for pesticide use.
For updates, residents can call the 24-hour Mosquito Hotline at (440) 350-2088 or visit LCGHD's mosquito control page. Weekday phone support is also available at (440) 350-2543.
š° Fourth of July Fire Causes $50K in Damage in Painesville
Firefighters responded to a residential blaze in the 1800 block of Spruce Lane in Painesville during the early morning hours of July 4. Crews arrived just after 12:40 a.m. to find smoke and flames pouring from the attached garage of a two-story home.
First responders quickly searched the house for occupants while beginning efforts to contain the fire. The scale of the blaze prompted automatic mutual aid from fire departments in Painesville Township, Concord Township, and Fairport Harbor. Additional assistance came from the Perry Joint Fire District, Madison Fire District, Leroy Township Fire Department, and Mentor Fire Department. Support was also provided by Painesville Police, Painesville Electric, and Northeast Ohio Gas.
The fire was eventually brought under control, and officials determined it began outside the garage, likely in a garbage can. The cause has been ruled accidental.
Both the main residence and a neighboring home suffered moderate damage. No injuries were reported, and initial damage is estimated at $50,000.

ā¾ Guardiansā Slide Hits Eight as Tigers Edge Cleveland 2-1
The Cleveland Guardians' struggles continued Friday night with a 2-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers, extending their losing streak to eight gamesātheir longest since a nine-game skid in 2021.
JosĆ© RamĆrez provided Clevelandās only offense with a solo home run in the third inning, snapping an 0-for-21 slump and marking his 14th homer of the season. Despite a solid six-inning, 105-pitch outing from starter Slade Cecconi, the Guardians couldnāt generate enough offense to snap the skid.

Following a dramatic 9ā8 victory the night before, the Lake County Captains couldn't carry the momentum into Fridayās matchup, falling 5ā1 to the Dayton Dragons at Classic Auto Group Park.
