🚨 Stolen U-Haul Chase Ends with Taser Arrest in Mentor-on-the-Lake
A police pursuit involving a stolen U-Haul truck ended in Mentor-on-the-Lake on July 11 after the suspect fled on foot and was tased by authorities.
The chase began when Mentor Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol pursued the stolen vehicle eastbound on Salida Road. Mentor-on-the-Lake officers were alerted and responded as the chase continued into their jurisdiction.
In the 6000 block of Andrews Road, the U-Haul struck another vehicle. The driver exited the moving truck, which then rolled into a fence in front of a McDonald’s restaurant.
The suspect fled through a gas station and laundromat parking lots, then ran west on Manor Drive before being tased and taken into custody by an Ohio State Highway Patrol officer.
Mentor-on-the-Lake police assisted with the arrest but were not part of the vehicle chase. The suspect’s identity has not been released.
🏘️ Step Inside the 2025 YMCA Dream House — And You Could Win It
Tour the 2025 Lake County YMCA Dream House — and Support a Great Cause
The 2025 Lake County YMCA Dream House is now open in a peaceful Mentor neighborhood, offering over 3,000 square feet of modern, luxurious living — and the chance to win both the home and a brand-new Chevy Equinox.
Every ticket purchased supports YMCA programs that benefit families and children across Lake County. The fundraiser fuels initiatives in youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Last year, the Y served more than 16,000 people — nearly half of them children.
Built by JEMM Construction, this year’s Dream House features a stone exterior, 10-foot ceilings, warm wood accents, and floor-to-ceiling fireplaces. The flexible layout includes a main-floor primary suite, a front office that doubles as a fourth bedroom, and a no-maintenance deck.
Upstairs are two bedrooms — one with a cozy hidden reading nook — while the finished lower level offers a second fireplace, wet bar, and daylight windows. The home also includes high-efficiency systems and plenty of storage.
Tickets are available on-site or at LakeCountyYMCA.org. The prize drawing takes place at the end of August.

📊 Experts Predict Stable Mortgage Rates Through July
Mortgage Rates Edge Up After Five-Week Decline
After five weeks of declines, mortgage rates rose slightly. As of July 10, the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate increased to 6.72%, according to Freddie Mac. Rates remain under 7% for the 25th week, with the uptick reflecting strong economic data, including a robust jobs report.
Will Rates Fall in July?
Experts expect no steep drops—rates may remain flat or dip slightly. In 2023, rates ranged from 6.09% to 7.79%; in 2024, that narrowed to 6.08%–7.22% as inflation eased and the Fed cut rates. A gradual trend is likely for Q3 2025, with no major July drop anticipated.
90-Day Outlook
Rates fell after 2023’s peak, following Fed cuts in late 2024. However, no cuts have occurred in 2025 due to renewed inflation, global tensions, and cautious economic signs. Housing analysts forecast Q3 2025 rates between 6.4% and 6.8%, suggesting limited movement ahead.
Current Trends
July 10 average 30-year FRM: 6.72%
July 10 average 15-year FRM: 5.86%
Both rates rose slightly from the week before, but remain within a narrow band seen since early 2024.
Historically, today's rates are still favorable. Since 1971, the average 30-year mortgage rate is around 7.8%. So while the 3% era is over, current rates remain attractive—especially for borrowers with strong credit.
Strategies for July Mortgage Shoppers
Act fast: With rates unpredictable and housing still competitive, buyers should be pre-approved and ready to close quickly.
Shop around: Comparing quotes from multiple lenders can save thousands. Rates can vary based on your credit, down payment, and debt-to-income ratio.
Know your options:
VA and USDA loans offer low or no down payment options with competitive rates.
FHA and conforming loans work well for lower credit or smaller down payments.
Jumbo loans fit high-price homes for strong-credit borrowers.
Mortgage rates in July are expected to stay relatively flat, with a slow downward drift more likely later in the year. Economic and policy uncertainty—especially around inflation and tariffs—will continue to influence rate movements. Homebuyers should stay informed, compare offers, and move quickly when the opportunity strikes.

⚾ Manzardo Homers, Kwan Secures Win as Guardians Take Series
The Cleveland Guardians closed out a strong series in Chicago with a 6-5 extra-inning win Sunday, led by Steven Kwan’s clutch performance.
Kwan drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th with a sacrifice fly and sealed the victory with a sliding catch in left field to stop a potential White Sox rally. Kyle Manzardo tied the game in the sixth with a three-run homer—his 15th—off former Guardian Aaron Civale, acquired last month in the trade that brought Manzardo to Cleveland.
Cleveland had erased an early 3-0 deficit after runs from Brayan Rocchio and José Ramírez. Chicago’s lead came from solo shots by Austin Slater and Andrew Benintendi, along with two more RBIs from Slater.
Kwan scored again in the eighth to give Cleveland a brief 5-4 edge, but the White Sox tied it before extras. Joey Cantillo allowed four runs in 5.1 innings with six strikeouts, while Emmanuel Clase pitched two scoreless innings for the win (5-2).
The series win evens the all-time matchup with Chicago at 1,130 wins each. Cleveland resumes play Friday at home against the Athletics.

⚾ Gomez Stays Perfect as Captains Top White Caps 5-2
The Lake County Captains continued their winning streak over the West Michigan White Caps on Sunday, clinching a 5-2 victory on the road. This latest win was driven by another dominant start from Yorman Gomez, who remained undefeated on the season.
Gomez delivered a strong performance, pitching 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and four walks. He struck out three and improved his record to 8-0 with a 2.84 ERA. Following his exit, former Cleveland Guardians outfielder-turned-pitcher Tyler Naquin made a notable relief appearance, successfully holding the lead. Kyle Scott closed the game with his third save of the season.
Lake County struck first in the second inning when Kevin Rivas drove in a run with a line-drive single. The Captains added two more in the sixth with back-to-back RBI doubles from Jacob Cozart and Jose Devers. They extended the lead in the seventh as Wuilfredo Antunez smacked a two-run double, making it 5-0.
West Michigan managed to put runs on the board in the final innings. Peyton Graham tripled in a run in the seventh, and Archer Brookman added an RBI single in the ninth. Despite the late push, the White Caps couldn’t overcome the early deficit.
