Elderly Driver Crashes into Mentor Restaurant; No Injuries Reported

An early morning crash startled staff and diners at a Mentor restaurant Tuesday when a vehicle slammed into the building shortly after 7 a.m.

The incident occurred at Yours Truly restaurant, located in the 7200 block of Center Street. According to Mentor city officials, the elderly driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to surge forward and crash into the restaurant.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the restaurant’s staff, patrons, or the driver. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was later towed from the scene.

Despite the unexpected start to the day, Yours Truly was able to continue operations. City crews were on site to inspect the damage and ensure the building’s structural safety.

🄤 From Sports to Daily Life: Electrolytes Fuel a Health-Driven Boom

Electrolytes Surge in Popularity Across Sports Nutrition and Wellness Markets

Electrolytes are no longer just a go-to for professional athletes—these essential minerals are rapidly becoming staples in mainstream wellness and fitness routines. Once limited to recovery drinks and endurance sports products, electrolytes like sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium are now being integrated into a broad range of consumer products from hydration powders to functional beverages.

This growing demand is driven by increased consumer awareness of hydration and its link to performance, mental clarity, and overall wellness. Wellness-focused consumers, especially those adhering to intense workouts, intermittent fasting, or low-carb diets, are seeking electrolyte-rich options to maintain energy levels and support recovery.

Brands are responding by innovating across categories, introducing low-sugar and clean-label formulations that appeal to health-conscious buyers. The category has also expanded beyond athletes to include wellness enthusiasts, travelers, and even workers exposed to heat or strenuous labor.

Convenience is key in this trend, with single-serve sachets, ready-to-drink formats, and stick packs becoming popular formats for on-the-go use. Companies are also focusing on flavor innovation and functional blends to differentiate their offerings in an increasingly competitive space.

As this trend accelerates, industry analysts expect continued growth in electrolyte-infused products, pointing to a convergence between performance nutrition and everyday wellness. With consumers increasingly treating hydration as a core health pillar, electrolytes are shaping up to be a permanent fixture in the functional food and beverage landscape.

⚾ Guardians Must Embrace Change as 2025 Season Slips Away

As the 2025 season unravels, it’s clear the Cleveland Guardians' playoff hopes are fading fast. Despite occasional flashes of unexpected brilliance—like two wins against the Astros—the team has spent the past month unraveling when it mattered most. While the numbers paint a grim picture—12 games out in the division and 4.5 behind in the Wild Card—it’s time to shift the focus away from disappointment and toward progress.

Here are five priorities the Guardians should focus on to turn a lost season into a productive one.

1. Move On from Short-Term Veterans

The Guardians need to cut bait with their rental players. With no real shot at a postseason run, there’s no value in clinging to veterans who won’t be part of the team’s future. Trading players like Carlos Santana, Tyler Thomas, Jakob Junis, and Paul Sewald may not yield blockbuster returns, but removing them from the roster opens up space and innings for developing talent. Even Austin Hedges, despite his clubhouse value, could be on the move—though he’s the one veteran whose leadership could justify keeping him around. Ultimately, the key is simple: clear the deck of players who aren’t in the long-term plan.

2. Shift Focus from Wins to Player Development

Manager Stephen Vogt has leaned heavily into platoons this year—great for short-term matchups, but counterproductive for developing everyday contributors. Prospects like Kyle Manzardo, CJ Kayfus, and Chase DeLauter need consistent reps, not shared time, if they’re going to become fixtures in the lineup. Manzardo especially must improve defensively at first base, and that development needs to start now.

On the pitching side, younger arms like Tim Herrin, Hunter Gaddis, and Jack Leftwich should be eased into high-leverage roles to build experience. Trevor Stephan, returning from injury, is another name who should be eased back into important innings.

Losing more games in the process? That may actually help with draft positioning come lottery time.

3. Consider Big Deadline Swings

The Guardians front office is historically cautious, but this might be the season to break the mold. Star-level talents like Emmanuel Clase, Steven Kwan, and even Shane Bieber could draw significant trade interest. While there’s no pressure to make a deal for the sake of it, real offers should be considered seriously. Clase’s market appears active, with teams like the Cubs, Dodgers, and Mets reportedly circling. Kwan, thanks to his elite contact skills and team control, would demand a high return. Bieber’s value is murkier, given his injury history, but if there’s interest, the team must at least explore what’s out there.

Doing nothing is what got the Guardians into this position. A bold move could inject life into the rebuild.

4. Ditch the ā€œGuards Ballā€ Mentality and Create a New Identity

The concept of ā€œGuards Ballā€ā€”small ball, clean defense, smart baserunning—has lost all meaning in 2025. The current squad plays slow, sloppy, and uninspired baseball. Instead of clinging to a faded identity, the team should look inward and allow a new culture to develop naturally. That means more youth, more experimentation, and more voices shaping the clubhouse tone.

5. Inject Fresh Voices into the Front Office and Coaching Staff

This offseason should be the beginning of meaningful change in the organization’s leadership. With the Nationals parting ways with longtime GM Mike Rizzo, front office shakeups are already underway across the league. Guardians GM Mike Chernoff has turned down outside offers in the past, but if he stays, the team should still seek to diversify its leadership.

One compelling candidate for a front office role is James Click, a forward-thinking executive with experience from Tampa Bay, Houston, and currently Toronto. Bringing in someone with an external perspective—especially on hitting development—could reshape the franchise's trajectory.

For too long, Cleveland’s leadership pipeline has relied heavily on internal promotions. It’s time for new blood.

Final Thoughts

The Guardians likely won’t contend in 2025, but that doesn’t mean the rest of the season has to be wasted. Cutting ties with veterans, committing to player development, considering bold trades, finding a new identity, and modernizing the front office are all necessary steps toward a more competitive future.

A passive approach has left this franchise stuck. This time, even an overcorrection would be better than standing still.
