Lake County’s seniors will be celebrated with festive flair during Senior Day 2025 at the Lake County Fair, set for Friday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This year’s event embraces a “Christmas in July” theme, offering a day full of holiday-inspired fun, entertainment, and community engagement at the Lake County Fairgrounds.

Seniors age 60 and older will enjoy free admission from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with complimentary transportation provided by Laketran thanks to funding from the Lake County Senior Services Levy. A highlight of the day will be a free boxed lunch, available to the first 350 seniors who pick up a lunch ticket at the Council on Aging’s meal ticket table in front of the Senior Day tent. Lunch, which includes a balanced summer picnic menu, will be served at 11:45 a.m. with table seating reserved for those with tickets.

Entertainment will include DJ Jesse Webb spinning festive tunes and a live performance by the Decibells during lunch. Guests might even spot Santa Claus and other surprise holiday guests. Bingo kicks off at 1 p.m. with prizes for winners, and door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

Beyond the celebration, attendees can explore informational booths hosted by local senior-focused organizations such as University Hospitals, Laketran, and the Lake County Council on Aging.

Senior Day aims to bring joy, connection, and valuable resources to the community’s older adults—all wrapped in the spirit of a summertime holiday celebration.

⚾ Guardians’ Kwan Sparks All-Star Rally, Forces Historic Tiebreaker

Steven Kwan Delivers Clutch Moment for AL in All-Star Game Thriller

On Wednesday evening, Steven Kwan, representing the Cleveland Guardians, made his mark in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game with a dramatic, two-out, two-strike RBI infield single in the ninth inning, helping the American League complete a six-run rally to tie the game at 6-6 at Truist Park in Atlanta.

Facing Mets closer Edwin Diaz, Kwan battled through a seven-pitch at-bat before chopping a ball to third and beating the throw to first, allowing Bobby Witt Jr. to score the tying run. It was Kwan’s first All-Star hit and RBI in four career appearances. He also stole second but was left stranded to end the inning.

Kwan entered the game in the sixth as a defensive replacement and later showcased his Gold Glove form by chasing down a tough foul ball in left field. His only other at-bat was a groundout in the seventh.

The tie led to the first-ever home run derby tiebreaker in All-Star Game history, where the National League claimed a 9-6 victory thanks to Kyle Schwarber, who launched three home runs on three swings to clinch the win.

Kwan, who went hitless in two at-bats in last year’s Midsummer Classic, showed his trademark poise and hustle on the national stage, once again delivering in a critical moment for the AL.

⚾ Guardians Prospects Battle Injuries as Bazzana Nears Return

Injuries, rehab updates, and emerging talent continue to shape the Guardians’ minor league system.

Top 2024 pick Travis Bazzana is making progress from an oblique injury in Arizona, splitting time between DH and second base. He’s expected to return to Akron later this month.

Chase DeLauter, nearing a return, was scratched due to wrist soreness and will be re-evaluated after the break. Juan Brito also returned to the IL with a hamstring issue after just eight games back.

In Triple-A, Trevor Stephan struggled in his Tommy John rehab, giving up nine runs with reduced fastball velocity.

Bright spots include Futures Game participants Parker Messick and CJ Kayfus, along with Akron catcher Cooper Ingle, who hit .333 with two doubles and eight walks.

Josh Hartle pitched five shutout innings in Lake County, pushing for promotion. Tyler Naquin made a surprising pitching appearance, hitting 96 MPH. Jaison Chourio is back to regular playing time, collecting six hits.

Lynchburg’s offense remained quiet, but Sean Matson added four more shutout innings. Braylon Doughty allowed three runs but went five innings.

Minor league play resumes July 18, with player progress under close watch.
