ā¾ RodrĆguez Homers, Cecconi Shines as Guardians Hold Off Aās
The Cleveland Guardians held off a late surge from the Oakland Athletics to win 8-6 Friday night at Progressive Field, highlighted by Johnathan RodrĆguezās first MLB home run and Slade Cecconiās dominant outing.
RodrĆguez, previously 11-for-81 in his brief big-league career, launched a fastball into the left-center bleachers in the second inning for a milestone moment. Cleveland exploded for four runs in the third behind David Fryās two-run homer, an RBI single from Angel Martinez, and a sac fly by Carlos Santana. Brayan Rocchio added a two-run double in the fourth to extend the Guardiansā lead to 7-0.
Cecconi (5-4) delivered a career-best 8 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. He retired the first 12 batters he faced before Brent Rooker broke up the perfection with his 100th career homer in the fifth.
The Aās mounted a rally in the ninth, chasing Cecconi with back-to-back triples and an RBI double. Emmanuel Clase entered with one out and struck out two to lock down his 21st save of the season.
Cleveland has now won seven of its last eight games, turning the corner after a 10-game skid.

ā¾ Captains Sink TinCaps 4-2 Behind Bullpen Brilliance
The Lake County Captains secured a 4-2 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps last night, thanks to clutch relief work and timely hitting.
Fort Wayne struck early in the top of the first when Brandon Butterworth belted his 10th home run of the season, giving the TinCaps a 1-0 lead. But Lake County responded in the bottom of the second with a bizarre sequence: a balk by TinCaps pitching allowed Jose Devers to score and tie the game. Moments later, Juan Benjamin singled home Esteban GonzƔlez, and Christian Knapczyk added an RBI single, scoring Benjamin and giving the Captains a 3-1 lead.
The TinCaps trimmed the deficit to 3-2 in the third on an RBI single by Braedon Karpathios, but the Captains answered in the fourth with Benjaminās second RBI single of the night, bringing home Nick Mitchell.
On the mound, Izaak Martinez was outstanding in relief, tossing three scoreless innings to earn the win. Jack Jasiak followed with two shutout frames of his own to collect his ninth save of the season.
