đ¨ Police Arrest Four After Attempted Car Thefts at Mentor Dealership
Four Arrested in Attempted Car Theft at Mentor Dealership
Four individuals were arrested early July 20 after Mentor police responded to reports of suspicious activity at Classic Ford on Tyler Boulevard.
Officers arrived around 1:30 a.m. to find masked suspects trying to open car doors. The group fled into nearby woods, but police arrested three juveniles shortly after. Their charges included possession of criminal tools, obstructing official business, curfew violations, marijuana possession, and giving false information. They were later released to their parents.
During the search, police found a Jeep Cherokee stopped in front of Alba Construction on Twinbrook Road. The driver, 18-year-old Treymond Crawford of Garfield Heights, was arrested and charged with stealing the vehicle, possession of criminal tools, and traffic offenses. Police say Crawford was part of the same group.
Authorities are still investigating whether the suspects used other stolen vehicles to reach the scene.
đ° Worker Killed After Truck Strikes Lift in Downtown Willoughby
Worker Killed After Lift Struck by Truck in Downtown Willoughby
A 30-year-old worker was killed Wednesday morning after being thrown from a cherry picker lift while repairing a sign outside a jewelry store in Downtown Willoughby.
The incident occurred around 9:47 a.m. as the man was working on the DavEd Jewelers sign at 4137 Erie Street using a red cherry picker truck. A Ryder box truck traveling down Erie Street struck the extended lift arm, causing the worker to be ejected from the bucket. He landed on a vehicle across the street.
An off-duty nurse who witnessed the crash immediately performed CPR until first responders arrived. The man was transported by ambulance to University Hospitals Lake West Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.
The 33-year-old driver of the box truck was uninjured but visibly shaken. According to Willoughby Police, the preliminary investigation suggests the liftâs elbow extended too far into the street at the time of the collision.

Color Makes a Comeback: Richer Hues Boost Home Sale Prices, Zillow Finds
The long-standing advice to paint interiors in plain neutrals before selling may no longer hold true. New research from Zillow reveals that embracing deeper, more expressive paint colors can not only enhance a home's appeal but also raise its sale price.
According to Zillow's 2025 Paint Color Analysis, homes featuring rich shades like olive green in the kitchen can sell for an average of $1,597 more than comparable properties. Buyers are increasingly drawn to bold, nature-inspired colors that lend personality and warmth to a space.
The shift away from stark minimalism reflects a broader trend: Millennials and other buyers are leaning toward design aesthetics that feel intentional and inviting. Shades like navy blue, deep green, and charcoal gray are perceived as contemporary and sophisticatedâelements that elevate the overall impression of a home.
Zillowâs data also indicates that not all bold colors are beneficial. Rooms painted in bright yellows or vibrant reds can negatively impact a homeâs value, sometimes decreasing the sale price by nearly $4,000. Instead, todayâs buyers favor darker, cozier hues with neutral undertones, which create a sense of tranquility and thoughtful design.
This new palette preference aligns with popular interior design trends seen across social media platforms like Pinterest. Designers known for layered, moody spacesâfeaturing deep blues, muted greens, and mid-tone brownsâare inspiring homeowners and influencing buyer expectations.
In kitchens, muted olive greens such as Sherwin-Williamsâs Ripe Olive or Benjamin Mooreâs Windsor Green are especially popular. For bedrooms, navy tones like Hague Blue and Naval offer a calm retreat and can yield up to $1,815 more at closing. In bathrooms, a soft mid-tone brown may add nearly $700 to a homeâs value, thanks in part to the influence of 2025âs trending shades like Pantoneâs Mocha Mousse.
Charcoal gray remains a strong choice across multiple rooms. It can add over $2,500 in the living room and more than $1,500 in the bedroom, creating a cozy, grounded feel. And while bold colors are gaining favor, classic white still holds its own in bathrooms, contributing a modest price increase and offering a crisp, timeless look.
Ultimately, todayâs buyers are looking for homes that feel thoughtfully designed rather than stripped of personality. A curated use of colorânot just blank wallsâmay be the key to standing out in a competitive real estate market.

âž Rockies Stun Guardians with 9th-Inning Surge in 8-6 Comeback
The Colorado Rockies pulled off a stunning late-game rally Monday night, scoring four runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Cleveland Guardians 8-6. After a 2.5-hour rain delay pushed back the start, the game ended in dramatic fashion as Colorado took full advantage of Clevelandâs bullpen struggles.
Trailing 5-4 entering the final frame, Colorado tied the game on a throwing error that allowed rookie Warming Bernabel to score from second. Brenton Doyle's bunt helped ignite the rally, and he eventually crossed home as the go-ahead run. Tyler Freeman followed with a single to push the Rockies ahead, and Hunter Goodman added an insurance run with a double.
Goodman had already sparked momentum with a solo home run in the eighth inning. Bernabel also continued his strong start in the majors, hitting his second home run in just three games. The Rockies sent 10 batters to the plate in the ninth, collecting three hits, two walks, and benefiting from a hit-by-pitch and an error.
Earlier, Cleveland mounted a five-run seventh inning to take the lead, highlighted by Bo Naylorâs three-run blast and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Carlos Santana. But their bullpen faltered late.
Tyler Kinley earned the win with a scoreless eighth, and Seth Halvorsen secured his 11th save despite allowing an RBI single to Nolan Jones.
Bradley Blalock started for Colorado and struck out a career-best seven batters over six shutout innings.

âž Guardians' Emmanuel Clase Placed on Leave Amid MLB Gambling Investigation
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase has been placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through August 31 as part of Major League Baseball's ongoing investigation into possible sports gambling violations. He becomes the second Guardians pitcher sidelined in the probe, joining Luis Ortiz, who was placed on leave July 3 after suspicious betting activity was flagged involving two pitches he threw.
The Guardians stated that no additional players or staff are expected to be implicated. The investigation was triggered by an alert from IC360, a firm that monitors betting markets, which identified unusual wagers on specific pitches from accounts in New York, New Jersey, and Ohio.
Claseâs direct involvement in the flagged activity remains unclear. A three-time All-Star and former Mariano Rivera Award winner, he has a 3.23 ERA in 47â innings this season. His absence leaves a major gap in Cleveland's bullpen, which struggled late in Monday's 8-6 loss to Colorado.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt called the situation frustrating and noted the growing impact of legalized gambling on the game. MLB commissioner Rob Manfred recently raised concerns about microbetsâwagers on individual pitchesâcalling them particularly susceptible to abuse.
