⛽ Contaminated Gas at Mentor Station Leaves Drivers Stranded With Repairs
Water-Contaminated Gas at Mentor Station Leaves Drivers With Major Repair Costs
Several drivers in Mentor are dealing with expensive vehicle repairs after filling up with water-contaminated gasoline from the Little Mountain Gas Station over the weekend. A corroded pipe allowed rainwater to leak into the fuel supply, damaging numerous vehicles.
Reports of sudden breakdowns spread on social media, with drivers facing towing bills and repair delays. Station management has contacted its insurance provider and is working to reimburse impacted customers. A crew was seen on-site Monday repairing the tank.
Lake County officials traced the issue to a leak at the connection between the pump pipe and the underground tank. The corrosion, combined with weekend rain, led to water mixing with the gasoline.
Ohio counties currently lack authority to test fuel quality, a task that legally belongs to the state’s Department of Agriculture. However, that program isn’t active due to lack of state funding. As a result, no agency is performing fuel quality checks.
Local officials are now urging support for Senate Bill 80, which would allow counties to test fuel. Affected drivers are encouraged to contact the gas station to begin the reimbursement process.

🏃🏻♀️ Lake County Observes Overdose Awareness with “Miles for Remembrance”
Lake County to Host Overdose Awareness Day Memorial in Painesville
Community members are invited to attend Lake County’s Overdose Awareness Day memorial from 3 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 31 at Veterans Park in Painesville Square.
Organized by Grieving OverDose, a faith-based nonprofit founded by Michele Liddy in 2021, the event honors those lost to overdose while offering support and resources for grieving families and individuals.
The ceremony will feature guest speakers, a silent choir performance, and the symbolic release of 140 monarch butterflies — representing transformation, remembrance, and enduring love.
Local support organizations will be present to offer addiction recovery, mental health, and grief services.
Lake County Treasurer Mike Zuren praised the impact of the event and Liddy’s efforts, noting its emotional significance, particularly for families and young adults affected by addiction.
The memorial is partially funded by the “Miles for Remembrance” 1K/5K race, taking place at 8 a.m. on Aug. 2 at the Lake County Fairgrounds. The race, hosted in partnership with GCXC Racing and Lake County, raises awareness and funds for overdose prevention.
Overdose Awareness Day, observed worldwide on Aug. 31, began in 2001 in Melbourne, Australia. The date symbolizes both remembrance and renewal, aligning with September’s International Recovery Day.

📰 Help Power the Fun: Mentor CityFest Needs Volunteers

Mentor CityFest 2025 Seeks Volunteers to Join the Fun
Mentor CityFest, Lake County’s largest annual celebration, returns August 15–16, 2025, at Mentor Civic Center Park—and the city is looking for volunteers to help bring the event to life.
Volunteers play a hands-on role in making the festival a success. From greeting attendees and selling tickets or beverages to assisting at the information booth, every role supports the smooth operation of the event.
Volunteering also offers a behind-the-scenes look at how this large-scale event is organized. It’s a chance to work alongside city staff and experience firsthand how the festival comes together.
Beyond logistics, it’s a meaningful way to connect with others, share in the community spirit, and create lasting memories. Whether you’re volunteering solo, with family, or as part of a group, there’s a spot for everyone.

👱🏻♀️ Why Glowing Skin Starts with a Holistic Anti-Inflammatory Routine

Why Tackling Inflammation Requires a Full-Body Approach
Inflammation isn't something that can be resolved with a single supplement or diet shift—it’s a much deeper issue, rooted in how we live each day. A comprehensive approach that considers not just what we eat, but also how we sleep, manage stress, and regulate our nervous system, is critical to reducing chronic inflammation.
Health and wellness experts emphasize the importance of consistency and routine in anti-inflammatory practices. From daily use of therapeutic tools like PEMF mats and red light therapy to grounding exercises such as barefoot walking and hypoxic bike training, each habit contributes to the body’s ability to regulate stress and reduce inflammation. Avoiding processed foods and synthetic fragrances is another layer of mindful living that supports long-term health. While the benefits might not be instantly visible, the cumulative effect of these daily habits plays a meaningful role in overall well-being.
During a recent wellness retreat, a deeper lesson emerged: combating inflammation isn’t solely about eliminating inflammatory foods or overindulgent habits. It’s about becoming more attuned to how each part of life—nutrition, movement, environment, and emotions—either fuels or soothes inflammation.
One of the clearest windows into the body’s inflammatory status is the skin. Inflammation often manifests through redness, puffiness, dryness, breakouts, and even accelerated aging. While temporary inflammation is part of the body’s healing process, chronic inflammation can exacerbate conditions like eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and acne. It can also degrade collagen and impair the skin’s natural barrier, speeding up the formation of fine lines and wrinkles—even if no clinical skin issue is present.
Mitigating these effects starts with reducing common triggers: getting restful sleep, managing daily stress, and being gentle with skincare routines. Overuse of strong exfoliants or alcohol-based products can strip the skin, making it more susceptible to irritation. A healthier approach involves supporting the skin barrier with ingredients like ceramides, niacinamide, and fatty acids. Calming botanical agents such as green tea, aloe vera, chamomile, and purslane offer natural anti-inflammatory benefits. Some wellness advocates even discourage the use of retinol, suggesting it's too aggressive and may worsen skin sensitivity instead of promoting long-term health.
In the end, the most effective strategy for taming inflammation is an integrative one—nourishing both body and mind, inside and out.

⚾ Manzardo's Power Surge Leads Guardians Past Rockies in 10-4 Win
Manzardo’s Two Homers Lift Guardians Over Rockies, 10-4
Kyle Manzardo blasted two home runs and drove in three as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Colorado Rockies 10-4 on Tuesday night, matching a season high with 15 hits.
Manzardo’s two-run homer in the third and solo shot in the sixth led Cleveland’s offense. Brayan Rocchio tripled in two runs, Gabriel Arias added a two-run single, and five Guardians had multi-hit games. The team jumped out to 7-0 and 10-1 leads.
Logan Allen pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on solo homers while throwing a career-high 113 pitches. He earned his second win in his last seven starts.
Colorado’s Tanner Gordon committed a balk after slipping on the mound, leading to an unearned run. Warming Bernabel went 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .400 through four games. Kyle Farmer hit a solo homer.
Cleveland has won 13 of its last 19 and sits 3.5 games out of the final AL wild-card spot. The series concludes Wednesday with Kyle Freeland starting for Colorado and Kolby Allard for Cleveland.

⚾ Late-Inning Collapse Dooms Captains in 4–3 Loss to Timber Rattlers
The Lake County Captains couldn’t hold an early lead as the bullpen faltered in the seventh and eighth innings, leading to a 4–3 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday night.
Lake County built a 3–0 lead by the third inning. Esteban González opened the scoring with a solo home run to right-center — his eighth of the season. Later in the inning, Ralphy Velazquez ripped a two-run double to center, bringing in Maick Collado and Christian Knapczyk.
Starter Michael Kennedy delivered a solid outing for the Captains, going 4.1 shutout innings with no runs allowed. But the momentum shifted in the bottom of the seventh when Wisconsin strung together three RBI singles, tying the game at 3–3. A throwing error by Collado also helped extend the rally.
Josh Harlow entered in the eighth and surrendered a go-ahead RBI double to Eduardo Garcia, giving Wisconsin a 4–3 lead. Harlow took the loss and dropped to 4–3 on the season.
Lake County’s offense was held scoreless after the third inning, and Wisconsin completed the comeback to take the series opener.
