📰 Lake County Breaks Ground on Modern Airport Terminal in Willoughby

Construction has begun on a new terminal at Lake County Executive Airport in Willoughby, a key project aimed at modernizing the facility and boosting regional economic growth.

The 5,800-square-foot terminal on Lost Nation Road will replace an aging building and feature upgraded amenities including a passenger waiting area, pilot facilities, conference space, and modern operations offices. Managed by the Lake Development Authority, the terminal is expected to be completed by summer 2026.

The facility is designed to serve business travelers, recreational pilots, and aviation students, reinforcing the airport’s role as a regional gateway. County leaders say the investment supports economic development and improves the first impression for air travelers arriving in Lake County.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, the terminal will house classrooms for flight students and youth aviation programs, helping to address the national pilot shortage by encouraging interest in aviation careers.

Lake County Executive Airport is part of Ohio’s extensive general aviation network, which supports over 15,000 jobs and generates $1.85 billion in annual economic output. The airport handles tens of thousands of aircraft operations yearly and hosts numerous aviation-related businesses.

The terminal project is part of a broader strategy to enhance Northeast Ohio’s competitiveness for business investment. Local leaders say strengthening airport infrastructure plays a crucial role in attracting companies, supporting workforce development, and fostering long-term economic growth across the region.

🥩 Mastering the Grill: How to Cook a Massive Cowboy Rib-Eye

seriouseats.com

Grilling a massive, double-cut bone-in rib-eye steak—often called a Cowboy Chop—requires a bit more technique than your average cut, but the results are worth the effort. These ultra-thick steaks, big enough to feed two hungry adults, benefit greatly from the high heat and smoky intensity of real hardwood charcoal.

Unlike pan-seared steaks, grilled rib-eyes develop a deeply charred crust and a unique flavor from the fat dripping onto the hot coals. This produces that signature grilled taste: smoky, slightly bitter, and richly beefy—something a stovetop or gas grill simply can't replicate due to their lower heat output.

While the flavor differences are substantial, the core cooking method remains fairly similar. The key distinction lies in harnessing the intense, radiant heat from real wood or charcoal, which delivers that crave-worthy crust and smoky edge.

🌽 The Best Ways to Grill Corn, From Campfire to Kitchen

Serious Eats / J. Kenji López-Alt

Grilled corn is the Best!!! But you’ve got to do it just right. What are the best methods regardless of how or where you cook it?

Grilling corn offers multiple methods, each with unique benefits. Whether steaming it in the husk over a campfire or using quick indoor techniques, the goal remains the same: sweet, tender, flavorful corn. Choosing the right method depends on your tools, taste, and timing.

⚾ Manzardo’s Extra-Inning Walk-Off Gives Guardians 3-2 Edge Over Twins

In a tightly contested matchup at Progressive Field, the Cleveland Guardians edged out the Minnesota Twins 3-2 in 10 innings on Friday night, thanks to a clutch RBI single from Kyle Manzardo.

With the game tied in the bottom of the 10th, Cleveland capitalized on a scoring opportunity when Brayan Rocchio, the automatic runner, advanced on a single by Steven Kwan. José Ramírez was intentionally walked, setting the stage for Manzardo to deliver a sharp liner to left field, sealing the Guardians' walk-off win. It marked Manzardo's second walk-off hit of the season.

Cleveland got off to a quick start with Ramírez driving in Kwan in the first inning. Ramírez then stole second base, achieving a rare career milestone: becoming the first primary third baseman and just the second switch hitter in MLB history with both 275 home runs and 275 stolen bases.

The Guardians extended their lead in the second when Rocchio drove in Carlos Santana. Gavin Williams was dominant on the mound, pitching six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts.

Minnesota rallied in the seventh inning, tying the game after a defensive miscue. Pitcher Hunter Gaddis attempted an ill-advised throw to first base on an infield hit, sending the ball past Carlos Santana and allowing two unearned runs to score.

Despite Minnesota’s active trade deadline—bringing in eight new players from Triple-A and exchanging 26 players in just four days—their retooled roster couldn’t outlast Cleveland in extra innings. The Guardians have now gone 9-5 since the All-Star break.

⚾ Captains Cruise Past Timber Rattlers 7-2 Behind Rosario, Humphries

The Lake County Captains rolled to a 7-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Friday night, combining timely hits with strong pitching to take control after a brief early deficit.

Lake County struck first in the opening inning when Ralphy Velazquez lined an RBI single to right, scoring Alfonsin Rosario. A fielding error on the play gave the Captains extra momentum.

Wisconsin responded in the third with a two-run double from Eduardo Garcia to take a short-lived 2-1 lead.

The Captains pulled ahead in the sixth as Rosario doubled in two runs and Nick Mitchell added an RBI single, later advancing on an error. Lake County padded the lead in the eighth with Jaison Chourio’s RBI single, then added two more in the ninth thanks to a fielding error and a wild pitch.

Jackson Humphries earned his first win of the season despite issuing five walks. He allowed two runs on two hits and struck out eight over five innings. Robert Wegielnik finished the game with his sixth save.

Lake County’s offense stayed aggressive, capitalizing on errors and key at-bats to secure the win.
