🎯 Lake County Launches “VISION 2050” to Shape the Next 25 Years

Lake County, Ohio
Lake County Unveils “VISION 2050” — First Comprehensive Plan in Over 60 Years
Lake County has officially launched VISION 2050, a landmark initiative designed to guide the county’s growth, development, and priorities over the next quarter-century. This is the first countywide comprehensive plan in more than six decades, led by the Lake County Board of Commissioners, the Lake County Planning Commission, and consulting partner Envision.
The plan will address long-term strategies for infrastructure, land use, economic development, and quality of life, ensuring the county is well-prepared for future challenges and opportunities.
Community involvement is a key part of the process. In the coming months, planning staff, local officials, and community partners will be visiting county fairs, festivals, and other events to gather ideas and feedback directly from residents. An online survey is also available for those who prefer to share their thoughts digitally.

📰 Countdown to Savings: Ohio’s Two-Week Tax Holiday Ends Soon

Ohio’s expanded Sales Tax Holiday runs from August 1 to August 14, giving shoppers two weeks to buy most goods priced at $500 or less without paying sales tax. The exemption applies in-store and online.
Eligible items go far beyond school supplies. Shoppers can save on electronics like laptops and TVs, clothing and shoes, books, home furnishings, plants, sports gear, and food — including dine-in meals.
Vehicles, boats, alcohol, tobacco, vapor products, and marijuana-containing goods remain taxable. Bundled purchases are taxed in full if any item is non-exempt. For online orders, all items must qualify for shipping to be tax-free.
Return rules vary: exchanging for the same item after the holiday stays tax-free, but swapping for something else may add tax. Returning a taxable item and buying an exempt one during the holiday avoids the tax.
The Ohio Department of Taxation offers guidance for businesses on applying the holiday rules.

Put-in-Bay Shines as a Must-See Ohio Getaway
Put-in-Bay is earning fresh recognition as one of Ohio’s top travel spots, offering a blend of natural beauty, lively attractions, and island atmosphere that draws visitors from across the Midwest.
A standout feature of the island is Heineman’s Winery, home to the world’s largest known geode. Hidden more than 30 feet below ground, the Crystal Cave maintains a naturally cool temperature and is lined with rare crystal formations that form perfect 180-degree angles — a geological rarity that attracts thousands of tourists annually.
Above ground, the island offers a wealth of experiences for both families and couples. Highlights include the Butterfly House and Family Fun Center, along with a vibrant downtown scene and panoramic views of Lake Erie. Visitors can reach the island via the vehicle-friendly Miller Ferry or the passenger-only Jet Express, which drops travelers right into the heart of downtown. Once ashore, golf carts serve as the preferred mode of transportation, adding to the laid-back vibe.
Tourism in the surrounding Shores & Islands Ohio region is thriving, with annual visitation ranging from 10 to 13 million and steady growth each year. Many who explore Put-in-Bay find themselves coming back for more, drawn by its mix of charm, convenience, and unique attractions.

⚾ Kayfus Belts First MLB Homer as Guardians Win Fifth Straight
Kayfus Powers Guardians to Fifth Straight Win Over White Sox
CJ Kayfus hit his first big-league home run and scored twice as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox 3-1 on Saturday night, extending their win streak to five. The victory put Cleveland six games over .500 for the first time since early June.
Promoted on August 2, Kayfus broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning by scoring on Brayan Rocchio’s double, then added a solo homer in the sixth. He is the first Cleveland player since Carlos Santana in 2010 to record four extra-base hits, including a homer, in his first seven MLB games.
Steven Kwan opened the game with a double and scored on Kyle Manzardo’s RBI single. Joey Cantillo earned the win, holding Chicago to one run over 5 2/3 innings, and Cade Smith notched the save.
Michael A. Taylor hit his eighth homer of the season for Chicago. Sean Burke struck out seven in 3 1/3 innings but took the loss. The series concludes Sunday with Slade Cecconi facing Davis Martin.

⚾ Stephan’s Late Blast Lifts Dragons Over Captains, 2-1
Dayton Edges Out Lake County in Tight 2-1 Matchup
The Dayton Dragons secured a narrow 2-1 victory over the Lake County Captains on Saturday, breaking the deadlock with a late-game home run.
Lake County starter Michael Kennedy turned in a strong outing, working 5.2 innings and allowing just one earned run on seven hits. The Captains tied the game in the sixth inning on a sharp single from Jose Devers that brought Nick Mitchell across the plate.
Reliever Sean Matson, however, was tagged with the loss after surrendering the decisive run in the eighth inning. Dayton’s Anthony Stephan delivered the game-winner with a solo shot to right field, his seventh home run of the season.
The Dragons had taken the early lead in the fourth inning when Yerlin Confidan crossed the plate on a groundout. From there, pitching and defense kept both offenses in check until Stephan’s late heroics sealed the win.
