š° Mentor Approves Wireless Tower, Vet Clinic, and Controversial Sheetz Station
The Mentor Planning Commission approved several new development proposals, including a wireless tower on Heisley Road, a veterinary wellness clinic on Mentor Avenue, and a Sheetz gas station and convenience store at Heisley and Hendricks roads. While the first two passed with minimal pushback, the Sheetz project drew strong opposition from residents concerned about traffic, light pollution, and environmental impacts. The Commission approved the Sheetz project with conditions, emphasizing that final design and infrastructure elements will be reviewed separately.

āļø Extreme Day Trips Take Off: Adventure Travelās Exhausting New Trend

Extreme Day Trips: The Latest Travel Trend That Promises Adventure ā and Exhaustion. This article was written for a UK audience but shows an interesting trend.
A new travel trend is taking off ā quite literally. Adventurous jet-setters are increasingly embracing āextreme day trips,ā flying to European destinations like Milan, Amsterdam, and Prague for just one day before returning home the same night. With early morning departures and late-night returns, the goal is to experience a slice of a city without the commitment or cost of an overnight stay.
Travel companies are capitalizing on this growing interest. From Leeds Bradford Airport alone, there are a dozen one-day trip options, including cities like Dublin, Malaga, Gdansk, and Geneva. Even TUI has joined the trend, offering Christmas day trips to Lapland complete with festive activities.
On the surface, itās a clever way to satisfy wanderlust on a tight schedule or budget. Thereās no need for hotel bookings or heavy luggage, and a well-planned itinerary can make for a compact but memorable experience.
However, the logistics tell a more complex story. Long waits at passport control, early check-ins, airport transfers, and public transportation in unfamiliar cities can quickly eat into the few available sightseeing hours. Any delayāwhether from security lines or missed connectionsācan turn the whirlwind escape into a stressful dash.
Real-life experiences illustrate the challenge. In cities like Krakow, where the old town is relatively close to the airport, an extreme day trip is more feasible. But even there, setbacks like long airport queues and travel delays can sap the enjoyment. In more sprawling destinations, time management becomes a nerve-wracking necessity.
Thereās also the physical toll. Rushing across towns, sprinting to buses after hearty lunches, and navigating unfamiliar streets under pressure can turn a mini-break into a marathon. While the idea of visiting Paris or Geneva for a day has an air of spontaneity, the reality often demands meticulous planning and stamina.
Despite the drawbacks, these whirlwind getaways offer quick tastes of distant cities ā a postcard experience for those short on time. But for many, the brief escape may not be worth the fatigue, especially if there's no time to even buy a souvenir.

š Rookie QB Dillon Gabriel Shows Promise, Mistakes in Browns Preseason Win
The Cleveland Browns defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 22-13 in Saturdayās preseason matchup, with rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel making his NFL debut. While the game itself had the usual preseason ups and downs, all eyes were on Gabriel, who delivered a performance full of both promise and growing pains.
Gabrielās first drive was smooth and efficient. He led the Browns downfield with quick, accurate passes, highlighted by a sharp out route to Jamari Thrash. The drive ended in a touchdown run by Ahmani Marshall, showcasing Gabrielās early command of the offense.
Things turned quickly, though. On the first play of the second quarter, Gabriel threw a pick-six after a miscommunication between Diontae Johnson and Blake Whiteheart. Just one play later, a fumbled handoff with Pierre Strong gave the ball back to the Eagles.
Despite the back-to-back turnovers, Gabriel regrouped. He led a drive that ended in a 46-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins and later hit Kaden Davis for a 29-yard gain, setting up another field goal ā this time from 49 yards ā by Andre Szmyt just before halftime.
Gabrielās day ended there, finishing the half with a mix of impressive execution and a couple of costly mistakes. Still, he showed strong awareness within Kevin Stefanskiās offense. While Shedeur Sanders may have had better overall stats last week, Gabriel looked more in sync with the system and played with poise in structure.
Tyler Huntley took over at quarterback in the second half and helped seal the win for Cleveland.

ā¾ Guardians Overpowered by Bravesā Mid-Game Surge
The Cleveland Guardians fell 10-1 to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night, as a mid-game surge by Atlanta put the contest out of reach. Despite a third-inning solo homer from Bryan Rocchio, the Guardians were unable to keep pace with a red-hot Braves offense.
Slade Cecconi struggled on the mound, allowing 10 hits and eight runs (six earned) in 4ā innings. After Cleveland cut the early deficit to 3-1, Atlanta responded with seven runs between the fourth and sixth innings, highlighted by a two-run homer from Michael Harris II.
Offensively, Cleveland managed just four hits in total, unable to generate consistent threats against Braves starter Joey Wentz, who gave up only one run over six innings. Reliever Hunter Stratton finished the game with three shutout frames for Atlanta.
The Guardians have now dropped the first two games of the series and will look to salvage the finale Sunday, with Logan Allen scheduled to start against Atlantaās Erick Fedde.

ā¾ Lake County Holds On for 3-2 Win Behind Hartleās Strong Start
The Lake County Captains edged out the Peoria Chiefs with a narrow 3-2 victory on Saturday, backed by a standout performance from starting pitcher Josh Hartle. Hartle delivered six shutout innings, allowing just one hit while issuing three walks and striking out four. His efforts earned him his tenth win of the season, improving his record to 10-2 with a 2.35 ERA.
The Captains jumped ahead early in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on a ground ball single to center field that brought home two runs. They extended their lead in the fifth inning when a sacrifice fly allowed another runner to score, giving Lake County a 3-0 advantage.
Peoria started to rally in the later innings. A solo home run in the seventh put the Chiefs on the board, and a clutch double in the ninth narrowed the gap to just one run. Despite the pressure, Lake County held on, with Michael Kennedy securing his first save of the season. The late-inning effort preserved the win and brought Kennedyās record to 2-1 with a 4.68 ERA. Lake County has now won 6 straight and is now only 3 games out of first in the division behind West Michigan.
