š§ Keep It Clean: Simple Steps to Prevent Water Pollution in Mentor
Everything that enters storm drainsāgrass clippings, soap, fertilizers, pet waste, and moreāflows directly into our rivers and Lake Erie. Thatās why protecting local waterways is a top priority.
Simple steps at home can make a big difference:
Build healthy soil. Loose, well-aerated soil promotes strong roots and absorbs water better.
Use rain barrels. Collect rainwater to reduce water use and runoff.
Redirect downspouts. Aim water toward lawns or gardens instead of streets.
Go natural. Choose eco-friendly methods to control pests and reduce chemicals.
Clean up after pets. Pet waste can carry harmful bacteria into waterways.
Recycle yard waste. Compost or mulch instead of dumping in ravines or near streams.
Compost at home. Turn leaves and clippings into nutrient-rich soil while cutting down on fertilizer use.
These actions help keep our waterways clean and our environment healthy.

āļø Why Google Reviews Are the New āWord of Mouthā (Part 1)
Local businesses are the heartbeat of our community. In this section, weāll give you a clear, no-fluff tip to help your business grow smarter and stronger.
If you want your business to show up higher on Google, reviews are one of the most powerful tools you can have. When people search for a product or service, Google wants to recommend businesses that are trustworthy and active. Reviews act as āvotes of confidenceā that tell Googleāand potential customersāthat your business is reliable and worth checking out. The more positive, consistent reviews you collect, the better chance you have of ranking higher in local search results and Google Maps.
But reviews do more than just boost rankings. They help build trust. When someone sees a business with dozens of recent 4- and 5-star reviews, it feels safer to choose that business over a competitor with only a handful. Reviews also give new customers insight into what makes your business specialāwhether itās great service, fair pricing, or friendly staff.
Another big benefit is feedback. Reviews highlight what customers love and can point out small issues before they become big problems. Responding to reviews also shows that you care, which makes customers even more likely to recommend you.

š” Experts Reveal Must-Do Autumn Maintenance Tasks for Every Homeowner

Essential Home Maintenance Tasks to Tackle Before Autumn Sets In
As the warm days of summer begin to fade, early September offers the perfect opportunity to prepare your home for the colder, wetter months ahead. This seasonal shift, often referred to as the "September reset," is the ideal time to carry out crucial home maintenance tasks that will help protect your property from the harsher conditions of autumn and winter.
From insulating outdoor pipes to checking your roof tiles, these expert-recommended jobs are all about prevention. Addressing these areas now ensures your home is ready to handle everything from blustery winds to freezing temperaturesāwithout the stress of last-minute fixes.
1. Clean Out Gutters
Start at the top. Leaves, debris, and moss can quickly clog gutters, leading to water overflow and roof damage. Clearing them now prevents water buildup and potential leaks during the rainy season.
2. Maintain Exterior Doors
Check that all doorsāparticularly timber onesāare sealed on all edges and weatherproofed. Sand, seal, and repaint where necessary. Replace worn weatherstripping and avoid thick lubricants on hinges, especially for composite or uPVC doors.
3. Repair Driveways and Paths
Small cracks can expand during colder months as trapped water freezes and swells. Fill and seal them now to prevent worsening damage over winter.
4. Inspect Roof Tiles and Flashings
A visual inspection of your roof can reveal loose tiles or worn flashings that may lead to leaks during heavy rain or snow. Fixing these now is much simpler than mid-winter repairs.
These simple yet impactful tasks can help extend the life of your homeās systems and prevent costly repairs. Acting early gives you peace of mindāand a warm, well-protected home all season long.
Weāll feature more next week as we talk about essential home maintenance tasks to tackle before autumn.

ā¾ Cecconi Nearly No-Hits Royals as Guardians Blow Past KC, 10-2
Cecconi Flirts with History, Guardians Crush Royals to Gain in Playoff Race
Slade Cecconi came within six outs of ending a decades-long drought for Cleveland on Monday night, carrying a no-hit bid into the eighth inning as the Guardians routed the Kansas City Royals 10-2 at Progressive Field. The dominant win pushed Cleveland ahead of Kansas City in the American League wild card standings and extended their win streak to four games.
Cecconi allowed his first hit on pitch No. 95 ā a line-drive single to left-center by Michael Massey to lead off the eighth inning. Though the historic no-hitter slipped away, the right-hander received a standing ovation and quickly induced a double play to squash any momentum. It would have been the first no-hitter for Cleveland since Len Barkerās perfect game in 1981 and the first in MLB this season.
The Guardians exploded offensively, setting season highs with 16 hits and seven doubles. Six of those runs came in a fourth-inning outburst highlighted by RBI doubles from C.J. Kayfus, Brayan Rocchio, Daniel Schneemann, and Nolan Jones. Rocchio also delivered defensively, making two standout plays to preserve Cecconiās no-hit bid through the middle innings.
Cleveland (73-70) now sits just behind Seattle for the final AL wild card spot and has overtaken Kansas City (73-71) in both the wild card and AL Central standings.
Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. missed his third straight game with back spasms but could return Tuesday.
