š”PUCO Unveils Winter Utility Support Plan for 2025ā2026 Season

City of Mentor
PUCO Announces Winter Utility Reconnect Program for 2025ā2026
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has issued its Special Reconnect Order for the 2025ā2026 winter heating season, which runs from October 13, 2025, through April 15, 2026. The program helps Ohio residents maintain or restore electric and natural gas service during the colder months.
Residential customers of PUCO-regulated utilities can use the program once per heating season. To qualify, they must pay no more than $175 plus a reconnection fee, capped at $36. If the utilityās reconnect fee exceeds $36, the difference is added to the next bill. The same payment option applies to customers starting new service, with the $175 going toward the required security deposit.
The program has no income restrictions. However, residents at or below 175% of federal poverty guidelines may also seek help through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) Winter Crisis Program.
Last winter, over 204,000 Ohioans took advantage of the order to stay connected to their heating services.
To apply, customers must contact their utility provider during the program window. Representatives will explain how to use the Special Reconnect Order and assist with setting up a payment plan for any remaining balance.
More information, including a list of PUCO-regulated utilities and energy-saving resources, is available on the PUCO website.

šØ Aryan Brotherhood Member Arrested in Ohio After Threats, Gun Seizure
Aryan Brotherhood Member Arrested for Federal Gun Violation After Threats in Northeast Ohio
A 25-year-old man linked to the Aryan Brotherhood has been arrested and charged with illegally possessing a firearm after a series of alarming incidents across Northeast Ohio. Blake Meyer, identified by authorities as an āenforcerā for the neo-Nazi gang, is accused of having access to firearms despite a prior felony conviction.
FBI agents searched Meyerās homes in Lake County on Friday, seizing a loaded handgun, ammunition, a rifle scope, laptop, and a 3D printer believed to have been used to make a firearm.
Meyer came under investigation in January after social media posts showed him with weapons, cash, and extremist symbols. In one video, he displayed and fired what appeared to be a 3D-printed gun.
Court records detail troubling behavior, including a July call to the Maltz Museum where he praised Hitler, and a September incident at a Mentor bank, where he threatened staff after a check was refused.
Meyer admitted to past gun sales, dealing marijuana, and carrying out a prison assault for a gang leader. He remains in custody pending a detention hearing.

ā¾ Guardians Sweep Tigers, Slash AL Central Gap to 3.5 Games
Guardians Complete Sweep in Detroit, Close Gap in AL Central with 3-1 Victory
The Cleveland Guardians continued their late-season surge on Thursday, completing a sweep of the Detroit Tigers with a 3-1 win at Comerica Park. The victory pushed Cleveland to a season-high 10 games over .500 and pulled them within 3.5 games of first place in the AL Centralājust ahead of a critical three-game rematch with Detroit next week.
JosĆ© RamĆrez delivered the decisive blow in the seventh inning, belting a two-run homer to right field off Tigers reliever Troy Melton just nine pitches after Detroit ace Tarik Skubal exited a 1-1 game. Skubal, making his first start since a minor injury scare, allowed one run on seven hits while striking out nine over six innings.
The Guardians' only other run came via a solo homer from Jhonkensy Noel in the fourth.
Tanner Bibee improved to 11-11, allowing just one run over six innings with eight strikeouts. Clevelandās bullpen locked down the final three innings, with Hunter Gaddis earning his third save.
Detroitās lone run came early on a Colt Keith RBI double, but they squandered a second-and-third, no-out opportunity in the same inning. Keith exited with back stiffness.
The Tigers, once leading the division by over 11 games, have now dropped 15 of their last 22.

š Mentorās High-Powered Offense Set to Test Medina in GCC Clash

Undefeated Mentor will take on Medina in a pivotal Greater Cleveland Conference showdown at Jerome T. Osborne Stadium tonight, Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. Both teams are 1-0 in conference play and riding high after dominant wins last week.
Mentor, now 4-0, dismantled Brunswick 45-7 behind an explosive offense and tight defense. Medina (2-2) bounced back from consecutive losses with a 38-3 rout of Shaker Heights.
Historically, Mentor has dominated this matchup, leading the all-time series 12-2. This year, the Cardinals are averaging over 35 points per game. Running back Jackson Farley has rushed for 833 yards, averaging more than 10 yards per carry. His ground success opens up the passing game for sophomore quarterback Brogan Jones, who has thrown for 659 yards and six touchdowns. Receivers Justen Hodge and Logan Berwald round out a potent offense.
Medina counters with a pass-heavy approach led by junior quarterback River Blomquist. Top targets Sydney Lloyd and Brian Wuchter will be key in stretching the field. For the Bees to compete, their defense must contain Mentorās quick-strike offenseāsomething past opponents have struggled with.
The game will be broadcast on WREO-AM 97.1.
š Unbeaten Benedictine Hosts Surging Lake Catholic in Power-Football Matchup

Lake Catholic, Benedictine Set for Hard-Hitting Nonconference Clash
Lake Catholic and Benedictine will square off at Don Shula Stadium tonight, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in a nonconference matchup loaded with physical play and rising momentum on both sides. While the game doesn't carry league implications this year, it will next season when both programs join the North Coast Conference.
Benedictine comes in unbeaten at 4-0, fresh off a 28-14 win over NDCL. After trailing early, the Bengals took control at the line of scrimmage. Corde Blair led the ground attack with 118 yards and a touchdown, while Earl Jackson added 92 yards and two scores. Quarterback Giovanni Iacampo contributed 182 passing yards and another touchdown.
Lake Catholic, now 3-1, extended its win streak to three games with a 31-14 win over Gilmour. Though QB Max Pisano passed for just 93 yards, the Cougars leaned on their physical run game, featuring Danny Zmorowski, Giovanni Magistrelli, and Michael Valentino. Their defense has also been key in recent wins.
Both teams boast standout defenders. Lake Catholic's Marty Loncar and Benedictineās Sean OāConnell and Tyrell OāNeal are among the most impactful in the region. Lake leads the all-time series 18-11, though the teams havenāt met since 2019.
