Mentor Police Investigate Alleged Assault at Protest
Mentor Police are investigating an alleged assault that took place during a September 16 protest on the Hopkins Road bridge over State Route 2.
The demonstration, part of a weekly series held by a local group, focuses on political and global issues. While the rallies often receive positive responses, tensions occasionally flare with those who disagree.
During the recent event, a protester said a bicyclist became confrontationalāspitting at another demonstrator and trying to grab an upside-down American flag. Cell phone video shows a verbal exchange before the woman filming is knocked to the ground.
Police confirmed the man was identified and interviewed, along with other witnesses. The case has been turned over to the Lake County Prosecutorās Office to determine whether charges will be filed.

How to Cut Costs While Keeping Your Pet Healthy
Being a responsible pet owner means making informed choices about your petās health, especially as veterinary costs continue to rise. Thankfully, with a few proactive steps, itās possible to keep your furry friend healthy without overspending.
Regular check-ups are essential. Annual vet visits help catch potential problems early and are more cost-effective than treating illnesses after they arise. It's also wise to compare rates across clinics for routine care like vaccinations and exams.
Speaking of vaccines, itās important to know which ones your pet actually needs. While some are required by law or essential for disease prevention, others may be optional based on your petās lifestyle. A tailored vaccination schedule can be both safer and more economical.
Spaying or neutering your pet not only helps prevent unwanted litters but also reduces the risk of certain cancers and other costly health issues. Many local shelters offer low-cost or even free sterilization services.
Oral health plays a bigger role than many realize. Dental disease in pets can lead to serious complications affecting the heart and kidneys. By establishing a regular at-home dental routine, pet owners can save money and avoid unnecessary vet bills. Be sure to use pet-safe dental products and consult your vet for recommendations.
Flea and tick prevention is another must. Left unchecked, parasites can cause anything from skin irritation to life-threatening conditions. Affordable topical treatments can provide reliable protection when used correctlyāand itās critical to use the right product for your pet species.
Secondhand smoke poses health risks not just to humans, but also to pets. Exposure can lead to asthma, bronchitis, and various forms of cancer in animals. Cutting out cigarettes helps protect pets and reduces long-term healthcare costs.
Another smart move is to explore pet health insurance. A good plan can offer peace of mind when dealing with unexpected illnesses or emergencies. Be sure to compare policies closely to ensure coverage aligns with your needs.
Feeding your pet a high-quality diet is an investment in long-term health. Formulas that meet established nutritional standards can help prevent obesity and disease, which can lead to significant savings on vet care. Avoid overfeeding, and always choose food that meets industry guidelines.
Finally, consider doing some of your pet grooming at home. Regular brushing and nail trimming not only keeps your pet comfortable but also prevents common issues like matting, hairballs, or overgrown claws. It's a great way to bond while reducing grooming expenses.
With the right strategies, itās possible to keep pets healthy and happy without breaking the bank.

ā¾ Tigers Collapse as Guardians Rewrite AL Central History
Guardians Stun Tigers, Take AL Central Lead After Historic Comeback
In a remarkable late-season surge, the Cleveland Guardians overtook the Detroit Tigers for sole possession of first place in the American League Central on Wednesday, winning 5-1 and capping off a stunning turnaround from a 15½-game deficit in July.
The Guardians have now won 17 of their last 19 games, while the Tigers continue to spiral with their eighth consecutive loss. For 175 days, Detroit held at least a share of first place ā until Clevelandās relentless push finally flipped the standings.
Their climb defied expectations. Even amid a midseason gambling scandal involving pitchers and roster changes at the trade deadline, Cleveland stayed focused. By September 1, they were still 10½ games back ā but continued grinding.
Designated hitter George Valera sparked the comeback Wednesday with a two-run homer in the third inning, his biggest moment yet after years of injuries and time in the minors. Later, a dropped foul popup by Tigers catcher Dillon Dingler allowed Brayan Rocchio to reach base, setting up Jose Ramirezās two-run double to seal the win.
Tanner Bibee gave up just one run over five innings, part of a historic stretch where Guardians starters have allowed two or fewer runs in 19 straight games ā the longest such run since the 2019 Rays.
With the season series now clinched over Detroit and one more matchup looming Thursday, Cleveland is on the brink of back-to-back division titles. If they succeed, their comeback would surpass the 1978 Yankeesā 14-game rally ā the biggest ever in the divisional era.
Meanwhile, Detroitās free fall continues, with little sign of recovery. As Cleveland surges into postseason form, the Tigers are in danger of missing the playoffs entirely.
With just four games left, the Guardians now control their fate ā poised to complete one of baseballās most improbable comebacks.
