🍂 Mentor Expands Fall Yard Waste Limit Starting October 27

City of Mentor

The City of Mentor’s Yard Waste Program runs from the first full week of April through the second full week of December each year.

From October 27 through December 12, 2025, the weekly yard waste collection limit increases from 12 to 25 units to accommodate fall cleanup. Each unit counts as one bag, bundle, or container of yard waste.

To ensure collection:

  • Each unit must weigh under 35 pounds.

  • Branches may not exceed three inches in diameter and should be cut into four-foot lengths and bundled.

  • Only biodegradable paper bags are accepted — no plastic bags.

  • Reusable containers (up to 32 gallons) are allowed if labeled “YW” and have small drainage holes near the bottom.

Because of the higher seasonal volume, Waste Management will add trucks and staff to maintain service levels. However, pickup times may vary. Residents are asked to set out yard waste the night before collection day to avoid missed pickups.

For full guidelines, visit the Waste Removal and Recycling page or call Public Works at 440-974-5781.

📊 City of Mentor Maintains Strong Industrial Presence Despite Vacancy Uptick

City of Mentor

Industrial Vacancy at 3.6% in Mentor for Q3 2025

Mentor’s industrial market remains strong despite a slight rise in vacancy during the third quarter of 2025.

According to the Cleveland 3rd Quarter 2025 Industrial Market Report by CoStar, the regional industrial market across eight Northeast Ohio counties totals roughly 454 million square feet, with an overall vacancy rate of 4.3%—unchanged from last quarter but one point higher than a year ago.

Lake County includes about 40 million square feet of industrial space in 1,344 buildings. Its vacancy rate climbed slightly to 2.6%, up 0.4% from both last quarter and last year.

Mentor continues to lead the county’s industrial sector, representing about 14 million square feet, or 35% of the Lake County total. The city’s vacancy rate reached 3.6%, up from 2.2% in Q2 and 1.7% a year ago.

The largest available spaces currently include:

  • 8820 East Avenue – 174,550 sq. ft.

  • 7800 Tyler Boulevard – 168,687 sq. ft.

  • 8100 Tyler Boulevard – 147,973 sq. ft.

Even with this moderate increase, Mentor’s industrial market continues to outperform much of the region, maintaining solid occupancy and remaining a key driver in Lake County’s economy.

Prepared by the City of Mentor, Planning & Development Department – October 2025.

🏈 Cardinals Overpower Mustangs to Remain Unbeaten in GCC Play

Mentor Cardinals

Mentor Dominates Strongsville, Stays Unbeaten at 7–0

The Mentor Cardinals continued their undefeated season with an emphatic 56–21 victory over Strongsville on October 3 at Jerome T. Osborne Stadium.

The Mustangs struck first with two quick touchdowns in the opening minutes, but Mentor’s offense quickly found its rhythm. Powered by a dominant offensive line, the Cardinals tied the game at 21 before storming ahead with 34 unanswered points to secure the win and remain atop the Greater Cleveland Conference (GCC).

Mentor’s offense was nearly unstoppable, totaling 606 yards, including 393 on the ground. Senior running back Jackson Farley led the charge with multiple touchdowns, while quarterback Brogan Jones threw for more than 200 yards and contributed key runs.

The Cardinals’ offensive line — featuring FBS commits Landry Brede (NC State), Jojo LoDuca (Navy), and Colin Prichard (Kent State) — paved the way for consistent production throughout the night.

After leading 27–21 at halftime, Mentor’s defense tightened up, shutting out Strongsville in the second half. Linebacker Carson Wolk and the defensive front contained Strongsville’s run game and set up several short fields for the offense.

Backups Braylon Callahan and Dominic Burns added late touchdowns to seal the victory.

The win improves Mentor to 7–0 (4–0 GCC) as the Cardinals prepare for Shaker Heights next week, followed by Lorain and Euclid to close out the regular season.

Mentor remains one of Ohio’s top Division I programs, showcasing balance, depth, and dominance on both sides of the ball.

🏈 Lake Catholic Grounds Panthers in 26-0 Shutout Victory

Lake Catholic Shuts Out Elyria Catholic, 26-0, in Statement Win

Lake Catholic bounced back in a big way on Thursday night, blanking Elyria Catholic 26-0 in a dominant road performance that improved the Cougars to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the North Coast Conference.

The Cougars struck quickly, with sophomore quarterback Max Pisano breaking free for a 54-yard touchdown run on the team's third play from scrimmage. Pisano added another score in the third quarter, finishing the game with 89 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Junior running back Danny Zmorowski complemented the attack with 96 yards on the ground and a one-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Behind a disciplined offensive line, Lake Catholic controlled the tempo and racked up 183 rushing yards overall—159 of them coming in the first half alone.

The defense was just as impressive. Lake Catholic stifled the Panthers throughout the night, holding them to 37 yards in the first half and keeping them off the scoreboard entirely. Elyria Catholic moved the ball into Cougar territory three times after halftime but couldn’t convert, thanks to a disciplined and physical defensive effort.

Special teams also made an impact. Gavyn Fredriks nailed a 26-yard field goal late in the second quarter, and the Cougars forced a safety on the ensuing kickoff to take a commanding 19-0 lead into halftime. A recovered backward pass by Joey Nagy early in the second half set up Pisano’s second touchdown and sealed the shutout.

The win marked a strong response for Lake Catholic following last week’s loss to Padua and sets the stage for a key home matchup against Walsh Jesuit on October 11.
