Do red cars cost more to insure?

You may have heard the myth that red cars cost more to insure, often with varying reasons why. The truth is, the color of your car has nothing to do with your premium. Insurance companies are more interested in your vehicle’s make, model, age, safety features, and your driving history. What’s not a myth, though — is that people really can save a ton of money by switching insurers. Check out Money’s car insurance tool to see if you could, too.

Mentor Students Rally for Kindness at Inspiring Biannual Event
Elementary students from Mentor Public Schools received an energetic welcome from the Mentor High School marching band Thursday morning as they gathered at the Fine Arts Center for the district’s Kindness Rally.
The biannual event, held in partnership with Kindland, brings together fourth and fifth graders to promote a culture of kindness and acceptance while addressing bullying in schools.
Students enjoyed peer-led presentations focused on empathy, compassion, and the power of supporting one another. The uplifting atmosphere encouraged students to connect with classmates and look up to the high school mentors leading the way.
Organizers emphasized that kindness has lasting impact — not only on school culture but on mental well-being. Studies show that kind behavior can reduce anxiety and depression, reinforcing the idea that kindness is a real superpower.
Now in its sixth year, the rally is coming full circle. High school students who once attended as children are now leading the event, continuing the message they once received. Many say it shaped their values and inspired them to lead by example.
District leaders say the goal is to foster a community where students support one another and make empathy a daily habit.

🏪 Mentor Schools Opens Family Resource Center to Support Local Families
Mentor City Schools has launched a new Family Resource Center to support families in need across the district. The facility provides clothing, food, school supplies, and hygiene items — all free and accessible to any family within the district.
Families like Kristy Roborecki’s have already benefited from the center. After a devastating house fire destroyed most of their belongings, the center provided everything from boots and clothing to hygiene products and school supplies, helping them get back on their feet.
The center brings together several pre-existing district support programs into one location. Tricia Zeedrich, the district’s family support and engagement coordinator, said the centralized space makes it easier to meet a growing variety of needs, including food assistance and help connecting families to community resources.
Superintendent Craig Heath emphasized that the center helps build student confidence by ensuring every child has access to essentials like clothing and school supplies, setting them up for success in the classroom.
The center is accepting donations, especially new socks and underwear of all sizes, and non-perishable food items.

The City of Mentor has officially set its 2025 Halloween trick-or-treat hours for Friday, October 31, from 6 PM to 8 PM. Families planning to participate are encouraged to follow the recommended safety guidelines to help ensure a fun and secure evening for everyone.
The Mentor Police Department is offering helpful reminders to keep trick-or-treaters safe as they head out into neighborhoods. Children should avoid walking alone and always be accompanied by an adult. Pedestrians are advised to use sidewalks whenever possible and to stay alert for vehicles. Sticking to familiar neighborhoods and avoiding costumes that impair vision or pose tripping hazards can also help prevent accidents. All treats should be carefully inspected before being consumed.
To further promote community safety, the Mentor Police Department will have additional officers on patrol throughout Halloween night. Residents are encouraged to enjoy the holiday while taking the proper precautions to keep it safe.

🏈 Cardinals Aim to Stay Perfect: Mentor Heads to Lorain Friday Night

Mentor Cardinals Hit the Road to Face Lorain Titans in GCC Matchup
The Mentor Cardinals travel west tonight, October 17, to take on the Lorain Titans in a Greater Cleveland Conference (GCC) battle under the lights. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Lorain.
Mentor (8-0) enters the game with confidence after blanking Shaker Heights last week — the team’s third shutout of the season. The Cardinals have shown impressive balance on both sides of the ball, combining a high-powered offense with a stingy defense that’s been difficult for opponents to solve.
At the center of Mentor’s offensive attack is junior quarterback Brogan Jones, who’s quietly put together one of the best seasons in Northeast Ohio. Jones boasts a 69.8% completion rate, throwing for nearly 1,300 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just 4 interceptions. His longest strike of the year — a 72-yard bomb — found senior wideout Justen Hodge, who leads the team with 33 catches for 629 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Junior Logan Berwald has also emerged as a reliable second option, tallying 18 receptions for 363 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Still, Mentor’s offense remains grounded in the run game — literally. The Cardinals have unleashed 15 different rushers this season, piling up an eye-popping 2,288 rushing yards, averaging 8.2 yards per carry, and scoring 34 touchdowns on the ground. The centerpiece of that attack is senior running back Jackson Farley, who’s just shy of 1,400 rushing yards with 23 touchdowns and six 100+ yard performances. Farley commands nearly half of all team carries behind a dominant offensive line that continues to open big holes week after week.
Defensively, Mentor has been equally impressive. Senior linebacker Carson Wolk leads the team with 65 total tackles (43 solo), 1 interception, and 3.0 sacks. Logan Mitchell leads the Cardinals with 4.0 sacks, and seven different players have recorded interceptions — a testament to a defense that swarms to the ball and forces turnovers.
The Lorain Titans (2–6) will try to play spoiler on their home field, relying on their athleticism and speed to keep the Cardinals on their heels. But with Mentor firing on all cylinders, this GCC showdown could be another statement game for the Cardinals as playoff season approaches.

🏈 Lake Catholic Aims for Third Straight Win as They Host Holy Name

Lake Catholic Hosts Holy Name in Friday Night Battle
The Lake Catholic Cougars are riding high as they prepare to host the Holy Name Green Wave tonight, October 17, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. in Mentor. Both teams have been stingy on defense all season — Lake Catholic allowing just 11.9 points per game, and Holy Name close behind at 14.5 — meaning every yard will count in this hard-hitting matchup.
Holy Name (5–3) opened their in-conference schedule last week and made a statement, rolling past Elyria Catholic with a decisive 24–7 victory. The Green Wave will look to keep that momentum going against one of the toughest opponents on their schedule.
Lake Catholic (6–2), meanwhile, continues to find its stride late in the season. The Cougars dominated Padua Franciscan last Friday, shutting out the Bruins 30–0 in a wire-to-wire performance. It was the second straight win for Lake Catholic, and the victory showcased both their offensive rhythm and defensive tenacity.
Leading the way was Danny Zmorowski, who turned in a highlight-worthy night with 173 rushing yards and one touchdown, averaging nearly 10 yards per carry, including a 59-yard burst. Max Pisano also contributed with two touchdowns, giving the Cougars a well-rounded offensive attack.
Defensively, Lake Catholic was nearly flawless — holding Padua Franciscan to just 0.8 yards per carry. Marty Loncar anchored the defense with a standout performance as the Cougars continued to tighten up their run defense, which has steadily improved throughout the season.
The Cougars enter Friday night averaging 28 points per game over their last two contests and will look to extend their winning streak to three. Holy Name, however, will be seeking redemption after falling 35–3 to Lake Catholic in last year’s matchup — a game largely decided by halftime.
Expect a tough, physical game between two disciplined programs as both teams look to strengthen their playoff positioning.
