Mentor Voters to Decide on Rezoning Proposals for New Housing Projects

Mentor residents will vote November 4 on two zoning changes that could allow for new residential developments aimed at expanding housing options in the city.

Listed on the ballot as Proposed Change in Zoning No. 1 and Proposed Change in Zoning No. 2, both measures were recommended by the Municipal Planning Commission and approved by City Council in August. Voter approval is required for either to take effect.

The first proposal would rezone 12.7 acres at 8245 Deepwood Boulevard from R-4 Single-Family to R-10 Multi-Family Residential. The change would allow Deepwood Place, a 110-unit, two-story townhouse development with attached garages and 1.4 acres of park space. The area is near a mix of housing types and Route 90.

City staff say the rezoning is supported by local infrastructure and consistent with Mentor’s long-term housing goals. Some residents have expressed concerns about traffic and density, while others support the need for more diverse housing.

The second proposal would rezone 14.5 acres south of Adkins Road and near the Reynolds Road/Ohio 2 interchange to a Planned Residential Development Overlay. This would permit 45 single-family homes with shared amenities, including a clubhouse and nearly 4 acres of open space. The PRD designation allows flexible layouts while preserving neighborhood compatibility.

Both proposals align with the 2024 Housing Study & Needs Analysis, which found Mentor lacks smaller homes for seniors and higher-density housing for younger residents. The current stock is mostly large, older homes. If voters reject either proposal, the land will remain zoned for single-family homes only.

👮🏻 Lake County Boy Found Safe After Overnight Search Near Hale Road

Missing 12-Year-Old Boy Found Safe in Lake County After Overnight Search

A 12-year-old boy reported missing in Lake County has been found safe following an extensive overnight search operation near Hale Road in Painesville Township.

The child, who was last seen Monday heading into nearby woods—a location he was known to frequent—was the focus of a large-scale search involving deputies, drones, and K-9 units. The Lake County Sheriff's Office coordinated the response, which began Monday evening and continued into Tuesday morning.

Officials confirmed the boy was located by search teams and is in good condition. In a public update, the sheriff's office expressed gratitude to the community for its support and assistance during the effort.

🍋 Give It a Squeeze: How Lemon Water Can Boost Your Health This Fall

We know it. We've heard it hundreds of times. We want to act on this advice. But drinking an adequate amount of water each day can be challenging, especially now that the warm weather has left us in Northeast Ohio. So now is the time to up your water game by adding a little flavoring.

Adding several squeezes of lemon can certainly give your glass of water more flavor, but did you know it has other added benefits?

The juice of one lemon provides about 18.6 milligrams of vitamin C. The recommended daily amount for adults is 65 to 90 milligrams., so if you add lemon to each glass of water you drink during the day, you will be well on your way to achieve your recommended dose!

If you suffer from constipation, warm lemon water can act as a laxative if you drink it when you first wake up by aiding your digestive system to get moving.

Those who study ayurvedic medicine say the sour taste of lemon helps stimulate your system by allowing you to digest food more easily and helps prevent the buildup of toxins.

The citric acid in the fruit can help prevent kidney stones. Citrate, a component of citric acid, makes urine less acidic and may even break up small stones. Drinking lemon water not only gets you citrate, but also the water you need to help prevent or flush out stones

To reap all these benefits, you should add the juice of half a lemon (preferably organic in filtered or mineral water) to every 8 oz glass.

There are plenty more items you can add to your water, but lemon definitely ranks at the top of the list as far as added benefits. I like to alternate lemon water with mint water. Simply steep mint leaves in boiling water and then chill to your preferred temperature. Cheers!

🏀 Mitchell Scores 35 as Cavaliers Dominate Pistons for Third Straight Win

Mitchell Drops 35 as Cavaliers Cruise Past Pistons for Third Straight Win

Donovan Mitchell delivered a dominant 35-point performance in just 29 minutes to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a convincing 116-95 road win over the Detroit Pistons on Monday night. The victory marks Cleveland's third straight and continues their strong track record against Detroit, having now won 13 of their last 14 matchups.

The Cavaliers seized control in the second quarter with a 14-0 run that expanded their lead from seven to 17. By halftime, Cleveland was up 63-41, and Mitchell added 14 more points in the third before exiting the game midway through the fourth with the Cavaliers up comfortably.

Mitchell shot an efficient 13-of-18 from the field, including two three-pointers, and made seven of eight free throws. Jarrett Allen chipped in 20 points and seven rebounds, while Evan Mobley contributed a double-double with 15 points, 11 boards, and five assists.

Detroit struggled offensively, committing 25 turnovers. Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 12 points but shot just 3-of-14 and accounted for five of the team’s turnovers. Ron Holland II and Tolu Smith each added 11 points off the bench.

The Pistons had entered the game with two consecutive wins after a season-opening loss but couldn’t keep pace with Cleveland's energy and execution.

Next Game: The Cavaliers continue their road trip with a matchup in Boston on Wednesday.
