📰 Mentor to Launch $584K Renovation of Council Chambers

City of Mentor

The City of Mentor is preparing to launch a significant renovation of its Council Chambers, investing over half a million dollars to modernize the facility and improve its functionality. With an estimated construction cost of $584,000, the interior renovation will enhance the heart of the city’s legislative operations located at the Mentor Municipal Center.

The project aims to revamp the existing chambers to better support council meetings and public engagement. Updates are expected to include upgraded interior finishes, improved accessibility, and modernized infrastructure to accommodate current and future technology needs.

City officials have laid out a 90-day timeline for construction, starting from the issuance of the official notice to proceed. This relatively short timeframe suggests a focused, intensive renovation effort designed to minimize disruption to public meetings and municipal operations.

While the city is currently soliciting bids for the project, the primary focus remains on delivering a revitalized, functional space for civic proceedings. The upcoming renovation underscores Mentor’s ongoing investment in its public facilities and commitment to providing a professional environment for community governance.

📰 Mentor to Host Veterans Day Ceremony with Keynote by Retired Brigadier General

City of Mentor

Mentor to Honor Veterans with Annual Ceremony on November 11

The City of Mentor will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 11:11 a.m. at the Memorial Promenade in Mentor Municipal Cemetery, 6881 Hopkins Road.

Veterans Day, which began as Armistice Day in 1919, now honors all U.S. military veterans. The city invites the public to attend this tribute recognizing the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans.

This year’s keynote speaker is Brigadier General Peter Collins, USMC (Ret.), a Kirtland native with a decorated military and legal career. He holds degrees from the University of Mississippi, University of Memphis School of Law, and Tulane University. Over 28 years in the Marine Corps, he served in key legal roles, advising top military leaders on justice, operations, and international law.

His awards include three Legions of Merit, among others. After retiring, he held executive roles supporting service members and currently serves on the board of the Cuyahoga County Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument.

Local veteran groups are encouraged to participate. For more details, contact Kevin Cindric at (440) 974-5720 or [email protected].

The ceremony will be recorded for later broadcast on the Mentor Channel. If weather is poor, the event will move indoors to the Mentor Senior Center at 8484 Munson Road.

❄️ First Snowstorm of the Season to Hit Northeast Ohio: Travel Impacts Likely

Mentor and surrounding parts of Northeast Ohio are bracing for the season’s first impactful snow, with travel disruptions expected Monday morning, especially in snowbelt communities. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect through Tuesday morning for Lake, Geauga, Cuyahoga, and surrounding counties.

Here in Mentor, rain will begin Sunday evening before quickly turning to snow overnight as temperatures drop below freezing. While initial snowfall may melt on contact, colder air will allow accumulation by Monday morning—particularly in the inland portions of the Secondary Snowbelt, where 2 to 4 inches are possible.

Mentor’s shoreline areas are expected to see lighter totals, generally a trace to 1 inch. However, in higher elevations within the Primary Snowbelt, particularly south of Interstate 90, 8 inches or more are possible due to persistent lake-effect snow and gusty winds.

The Monday morning commute could be slick and slow-moving, especially on untreated roads and overpasses. Drivers in and around Mentor should plan for extra time and stay alert for changing conditions.

🏈 No. 1 Ohio State Cruises Past Purdue Behind Sayin and Smith

Sayin, Smith Power No. 1 Ohio State Past Purdue in 34-10 Win

Top-ranked Ohio State continued its unbeaten run Saturday with a 34-10 road win over Purdue, fueled by quarterback Julian Sayin and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

Sayin passed for 303 yards and a touchdown, completing 27 of 33 attempts in another efficient outing. The Buckeyes broke open a scoreless game in the second quarter with four straight scoring drives, turning an early 3-0 deficit into a 24-3 halftime lead.

Smith led the receiving corps with 10 catches for 137 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown — his 10th of the season and 25th career score, tying him for sixth all-time in school history.

Running back C.J. Donaldson Jr. scored twice on short runs to open and close the Buckeyes’ scoring. Lincoln Kienholz added a 3-yard rushing touchdown, and kicker Jayden Fielding nailed a career-best 49-yard field goal before halftime.

Ohio State improved to 9-0 (6-0 Big Ten) and extended its win streak to 13 games, maintaining its path toward a potential Big Ten title showdown with fellow unbeaten Indiana.

Purdue (2-7, 0-7 Big Ten) managed only 186 total yards and has now dropped 16 straight conference games. Despite taking a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter, the Boilermakers couldn’t keep pace once Ohio State’s offense found its rhythm.

Wide receiver Carnell Tate missed the game after experiencing discomfort during warmups. Head coach Ryan Day said the decision to sit him was precautionary and expressed hope for his return next week.

🏈 WVU Leans on Freshman QB from Mentor, Defense to Beat Colorado

Freshman QB Scotty Fox Jr. Leads WVU Past Colorado 29-22

True freshman Scotty Fox Jr. guided West Virginia to a 29-22 win over Deion Sanders’ Colorado on Saturday, continuing his breakout debut season just months removed from Mentor High School.

Fox threw for 202 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 58 more, overcoming two interceptions and leading several key scoring drives. His poise and dual-threat ability helped WVU improve to 4-6 and keep late-season hopes alive.

Despite the turnovers, Fox led a critical fourth-quarter drive capped by Curtis Jones Jr.’s 4-yard touchdown run. Earlier, a 69-yard pass to Diore Hubbard set up a touchdown to tight end Ryan Ward.

West Virginia’s defense dominated, sacking Colorado QB JuJu Lewis seven times and holding the Buffaloes to just 51 rushing yards. Though Lewis threw for 299 yards and two scores, WVU's timely stops and pressure were the difference.

With Fox’s continued growth, the Mountaineers are showing signs of a strong finish to the season.
