š§ Beat the Freeze: The Top 3 Winter Tasks Every Mentor Homeowner Should Handle Now
3 Winter-Proofing Tasks Every Mentor, OH Homeowner Should Do Before December
Winter hits hard in Mentor, and once December arrives, freezing temperatures can turn small issues into costly emergencies. Before the cold settles in, here are three smart, high-impact tasks local homeowners should knock out now.
1. Protect Your Pipes Before Overnight Lows Hit
Local plumbers report that the first truly cold weekāoften in late Novemberābrings a surge of frozen-pipe calls. Exterior spigots should be shut off and drained, garden hoses disconnected, and any exposed pipes in garages, crawlspaces, or basements insulated. A burst pipe can easily cost thousands; 15 minutes of prep can prevent it.
2. Give Your Furnace a Pre-Winter Tune-Up
Mentorās winters can stretch from late November to early April, putting heavy strain on heating systems. A simple furnace check (filter replacement, airflow inspection, thermostat test) boosts efficiency and helps avoid a no-heat emergency on a 10-degree night. HVAC techs say most winter breakdowns come from skipped fall maintenance.
3. Seal Up DraftsāYour Energy Bill Will Thank You
Homes in Lake County built before the early 2000s often lose significant heat through drafty windows, door frames, and attic bypasses. A quick check for cold air infiltration around windows and doors, plus adding weatherstripping or caulk, can cut heating loss dramatically. Donāt forget attic insulation; warm air escapes upward first.
Bonus Quick Checks:
Test sump pumps before heavy freeze-thaw cycles
Clean gutters to prevent ice dams
Check smoke & carbon monoxide detectors
A little prep now means fewer headachesāand far fewer repair billsāwhen winter hits full force.

š Mentor Skates Past Hudson 9-6 Behind Joe Mackeyās Hat Trick
The Mentor Cardinals outpaced the Hudson Explorers in a high-scoring ice hockey matchup, securing a 9-6 victory in a dynamic offensive showcase. Leading the charge for Mentor were standout performers Joe Mackey and Nick Biondolillo, each contributing five points to the scoreboard. Mackeyās hat trick, combined with two assists, earned him the title of Player of the Game. Biondolillo played a pivotal playmaking role, notching one goal and setting up four more.
Adding to Mentorās offensive firepower, Jake Mackey delivered two goals and two assists, while Beckett Swinehart chipped in with three assists. On the Hudson side, John Paul Fliss and Brody Carter each tallied three points, keeping the Explorers competitive throughout the contest.
Between the pipes, Mentor goaltender C.J. Lobue made 13 saves on 19 shots, ultimately securing the win despite a six-goal allowance. The Cardinals will face Hudson once again in a rematch scheduled for November 28.

š Shorthanded Cavs Stumble in Toronto as Ingramās 37 Powers Raptors
Cavs Fall Short Against Raptors as Ingram Drops 37 in Toronto Win
The Cleveland Cavaliers couldnāt overcome a dominant showing by Brandon Ingram, falling 110-99 to the Toronto Raptors on the second night of a back-to-back. Shorthanded and fatigued, the Cavs struggled to keep pace with a Raptors team firing on all cylinders.
Ingram led the way with 37 points on 15-of-30 shooting, hitting from midrange, deep, and at the rim. He added seven rebounds and two assists in a complete performance that Cleveland had no answer for.
Donovan Mitchell had a cold start, managing just seven points through three quarters on 3-of-14 shooting. Though he added 10 points in the fourth, his final tally of 17 points on 6-of-20 shooting wasnāt enough to rally the team.
Evan Mobley was efficient with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, but the Cavs needed more volume scoring. NaeāQwan Tomlin stood out among the reserves, scoring 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Jaylon Tyson chipped in 15 points and nine rebounds, while two-way players Luke Travers and Chris Livingston contributed meaningful minutes.
For Toronto, Scottie Barnes added 18 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists in a solid all-around effort. The Cavaliers now have a short break before facing the Atlanta Hawks on Friday in their final NBA In-Season Tournament group stage matchup.
