📰 Lake County Commissioner Richard Regovich Dies at 58 After Cancer Battle

Commissioner Richard Regovich

Lake County is mourning the loss of Commissioner Richard Regovich, who died on November 26 at age 58 after battling cancer. County officials announced his passing the following day.

A dedicated public servant for over a decade, Regovich remained active until shortly before his death, attending a county meeting on November 18 and a recent steel topping-out ceremony for the Lake County Public Safety Center.

He became the county’s 81st commissioner on November 29, 2022, and won re-election in the 2024 General Election. During his tenure, he prioritized economic growth, workforce development, and infrastructure improvements.

Born and raised in Willowick, Regovich graduated from Eastlake North High School and attended Lakeland Community College. He held several local roles, including service on the Willowick Planning Commission and City Council, and later served over six years as mayor and safety director. He was also active in community volunteer efforts, including work with Willowick Hearts and Hammers, a nonprofit supporting homeowners in need.

Colleagues praised Regovich for his dedication and leadership, noting his lasting impact on the community. Flags at county facilities will fly at half-staff in his honor.

Details on memorial services or public tributes will be shared when available.

🎄 Final Cheers: Mentor Brewing Hosts Farewell Holiday Painting Night

Mentor Brewing Company will host one final creative evening before closing its doors, inviting guests to a festive painting event on Thursday, December 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to craft a charming holiday decoration—an 18-inch wooden cutout of Snoopy atop his doghouse, complete with battery-powered LED lights. The guided, step-by-step acrylic painting session will walk participants through bringing the piece to life, making it a cheerful and customizable addition to any holiday décor.

The workshop includes all painting supplies, the wooden stand for display, and one complimentary drink from Mentor Brewing Company. Cory, the event host, will provide instructions and demonstrate each stage of the painting process, ensuring both beginners and experienced crafters feel at ease.

As this marks the final event at the brewery before it closes, the evening offers a chance for the community to gather, celebrate the season, and say farewell to a local favorite.

Tickets are available through Eventbrite and include all materials, instruction, and one beverage.

🛍️ Mentor Encourages Holiday Shoppers to Support Local Businesses

With the holiday season approaching, the City of Mentor is encouraging residents and visitors to shop local and support the businesses that help the community thrive. As Northeast Ohio’s premier shopping destination, Mentor offers everything from clothing and electronics to baked goods and books—all close to home.

Local purchases make a real difference. For every dollar spent at a locally owned business, 68 cents stays in the community, supporting jobs and reinvesting in city services. Mentor’s 300-plus retailers and 170 restaurants generate over $1.6 billion in annual sales, employing more than 9,500 people.

These jobs don’t just fuel the economy—they also help fund city services. Income tax revenue from local employment accounts for 66% of the city’s budget, supporting police and fire departments, infrastructure improvements, parks, senior services, and more.

If you’re searching for a unique gift, Mentor’s independent shops offer distinctive finds you won’t see at big-box stores. From handmade goods to specialty items, there’s something for everyone on your list.

To help plan your holiday shopping and dining, the city has released an updated Mentor Visitor Guide, available at shopinmentor.com. It features a complete list of places to shop, eat, play, and stay throughout the city.
