🏈 Ohio State’s Title Hopes End with Quarterfinal Loss to Miami
Ohio State Falls to Miami in Cotton Bowl, Ending Title Defense
Ohio State’s bid to repeat as national champions came to an abrupt end Wednesday night, as the Buckeyes fell 24-14 to 10th-seeded Miami in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Cotton Bowl.
The Buckeyes, who entered the game as 9.5-point favorites, struggled early against a Miami team riding postseason momentum. After quarterback Julian Sayin threw a screen pass that was intercepted and returned 72 yards for a touchdown, the Buckeyes found themselves trailing 14-0 in the first quarter. The pick came just minutes after Miami opened the scoring with a touchdown pass from Carson Beck to Mark Fletcher Jr.
Sayin, a freshman making his first playoff start, finished with 287 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. His top target was Miami native Jeremiah Smith, who caught seven passes for 157 yards and scored on a 14-yard fourth-down catch in the fourth quarter. Despite flashes of offensive promise, Ohio State couldn’t overcome its early mistakes and a relentless Miami pass rush that resulted in five sacks.
The Buckeyes’ defense held its ground for much of the game, but Miami capitalized on key opportunities. Fletcher, who earned offensive MVP honors, rushed for 90 yards and caught a touchdown. Beck completed 19 of 26 passes, including a record-setting 13 consecutive completions.
Ohio State finishes the season 12-2 after a narrow Big Ten Championship loss to Indiana and the quarterfinal defeat. The Buckeyes are set to open the 2026 season at home against Ball State.

🏀 Mitchell Ignites Cavaliers in Fourth-Quarter Surge Over Suns
Mitchell's 34-Point Night Leads Cavaliers Over Suns, 129-113
The Cleveland Cavaliers pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn a 129-113 win over the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night, ending the Suns’ four-game winning streak.
Donovan Mitchell led the way with 34 points, along with 10 rebounds and seven assists in 30 minutes. It was his 18th 30-point game of the season, placing him third in the NBA in that category. He bounced back strong after a quiet game in San Antonio earlier this week.
Darius Garland added 19 points, while Jaylon Tyson and Sam Merrill contributed 18 and 16, respectively. Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen both recorded double-doubles, strengthening Cleveland’s inside game.
The Suns mounted a third-quarter comeback, cutting a 13-point halftime deficit to just two, largely fueled by a 20-point quarter from Devin Booker. But Cleveland responded with a 24-5 run, with Mitchell and Tyson combining for 14 points during the stretch. The Cavaliers shot 10-of-13 during the run, while Phoenix went cold, hitting just 2-of-10.
Cleveland’s lead grew to 24 points late in the game, and the team cruised to its second straight win, improving to 19-16 after a 7-7 December.
Booker finished with 32 points, Dillon Brooks had 20 (all in the first half), and Collin Gillespie added 17 for Phoenix, now 19-14 after going 7-5 in December.
