🚨 Mentor Police Rescue Two Young Girls from Freezing Conditions

A woman is facing charges after her two young daughters were found wandering outside in near-zero temperatures in Mentor early Thursday morning.

Police responded just after midnight to the Extended Stay America hotel on Emerald Court after receiving a call about a young child alone in the parking lot. Hotel staff had brought the child, a 3-year-old girl dressed only in a sweater, inside to warm up. Authorities confirmed the family was staying at the hotel.

Inside one of the rooms, officers located the children's 36-year-old mother, who had been asleep and unaware that her children had left. Upon learning her 8-year-old daughter was also missing, a search was launched.

The older child was soon found near the Hampton Inn next door, wearing only a T-shirt and sneakers. Officers brought her into a heated police vehicle for safety.

Both girls were taken to TriPoint Medical Center for evaluation due to the extreme cold, but they were found to be uninjured.

Their mother was charged with child endangerment. Their father, who was reportedly dealing with a family emergency at the time, later arrived and took custody of the children. Authorities have not determined how the children were able to exit the hotel room unnoticed.

Mentor police issued a reminder to parents about the importance of closely supervising young children, particularly during dangerously cold weather.

📰 Superintendent Outlines Strategic Vision as Mentor Proposes May School Levy

Despite frigid winter weather, Mentor Schools Superintendent Craig Heath addressed a full audience on January 27 during the annual State of the Schools presentation. Held at the Paradigm and hosted by the Mentor Area Chamber of Commerce, the event focused on the district’s successes and plans for the future.

A key announcement: the district will pursue a 4.9-mill levy in May, pending board approval. If passed, the levy would raise $13.5 million annually, costing the average Mentor homeowner approximately $415 per year.

Chief Financial Officer Bill Wade explained that the district’s top expenses include salaries, benefits, special education, and facility upkeep. While cost-cutting efforts have been aggressive—closing buildings, redistricting, reducing staff, and securing grants—expenses still outpace revenues.

The district continues to achieve academically, recently earning 4.5 out of 5 stars on Ohio’s school report card. Heath also unveiled the district’s five strategic priorities, called the “Big Moves,” which include enhancing literacy, career pathways, and student wellbeing.

💇🏻‍♀️ Turning Social Media into Booked Appointments for Local Salons

Helping Mentor & Lake County salons look better on Facebook & Instagram

A lot of local salons are amazing in person… but their Instagram or Facebook goes quiet for weeks at a time.

I’ve put together a new Salon Social Kit just for local hair salons in Mentor and Lake County: 100 ready‑to‑post graphics, captions, hashtags, and a simple posting plan so they can stay consistent without hiring a marketing agency.

For the launch, I’m giving a free mini pack (4 ready‑to‑post posts) to a few local salons who want to try it out.

  • If you own or work at a salon, reply to this email with SALON and I’ll send you the free mini pack.

  • If you know a salon owner or stylist, hit reply and tell me their salon name (or forward them this email).

Let’s help more of our local salons look as good online as they do in person.
