🔥 Firefighters Take on Key Tower Climb to Support Lung Disease Research

Probationary firefighters recently took part in the American Lung Association’s annual Fight for Air Climb in Cleveland, raising funds and awareness for lung health.
During the event, participants climbed a total of 1,268 steps to reach the top floor of Key Tower—the tallest building in downtown Cleveland—before making the descent back down. The challenging climb supports efforts to fund medical research, develop new treatments, and expand education surrounding lung cancer and other lung-related illnesses.
Through their participation, the firefighters raised more than $1,500 to support the American Lung Association’s mission. Their effort highlights both their commitment to physical endurance and their dedication to supporting important health initiatives in the community.

🏡 Smart Home Care: Simple Ways to Protect Your Biggest Investment
The home improvement industry is evolving rapidly, and homeowners in 2025 and 2026 are approaching projects with a far more strategic mindset. Instead of impulsive remodels, people are carefully evaluating whether an upgrade is worth the time and money. Economic pressures, lifestyle priorities, and long-term value are driving decisions, which is reshaping how homeowners spend on improvements.
Here are three of the most important trends shaping the market right now.
1. Market Growth Continues—But Spending Is Smarter
Even with cautious consumer sentiment, the home improvement market continues to grow. Industry forecasts project the sector will expand by about 2.5 percent in 2025 and then increase roughly 4 percent annually through 2029, potentially reaching nearly $688 billion.
However, the way homeowners are spending has changed. Many are focusing on smaller, manageable upgrades that deliver noticeable improvements without overwhelming budgets. DIY projects are becoming more popular as homeowners look for flexibility, cost control, and confidence that each investment adds real value.
2. Economic Signals Are Mixed, Driving Strategic Spending
The economic outlook for homeowners is complex. Unemployment has ticked slightly higher and consumer confidence remains relatively low, which has made many households cautious about large expenses.
At the same time, real disposable income has increased modestly, giving homeowners the ability to invest in their homes if they choose. As a result, spending is becoming more selective. Projects that offer clear benefits—such as energy efficiency improvements, preventative maintenance, and upgrades that protect long-term property value—are taking priority.
3. More Homeowners Are Staying Put and Upgrading
Housing market dynamics are also influencing renovation decisions. While housing inventory has increased compared with the previous year, many homeowners who secured low mortgage rates are reluctant to move.
Instead, they are choosing to improve their current homes. Upgrades that enhance comfort, increase functionality, or improve energy efficiency are becoming more attractive than buying a new property at higher interest rates. For many households, investing in their existing space feels like the smarter financial choice.
These trends highlight a broader shift: homeowners are still investing in their homes, but they are doing so more thoughtfully and with a stronger focus on value.

🏀 James Harden Passes 29,000 Points as Cavaliers Defeat 76ers
James Harden reached another career milestone Monday night, scoring 21 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Philadelphia 76ers 115–101. The veteran guard surpassed 29,000 career points in the first quarter, becoming the ninth player in NBA history to reach the mark. He finished the game with 29,017 points over 17 seasons.
Cleveland received strong support across the lineup. Donovan Mitchell recorded 17 points and six assists, Evan Mobley added 15 points and eight rebounds, and Keon Ellis scored 19 points off the bench.
The Cavaliers continued their strong form, winning 18 of their last 24 games and improving to 8–1 at home since late January. Cleveland currently sits fourth in the Eastern Conference, one game behind New York.
Philadelphia played without its four leading scorers, including Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. Quentin Grimes led the 76ers with 17 points, while Justin Edwards added 14 and Cameron Payne finished with 12. The loss was Philadelphia’s fourth in five games.
Cleveland pulled away in the third quarter when Harden scored nine points during a run that pushed the lead to 84–59. The Cavaliers completed a four-game season sweep of the 76ers.
Cleveland will travel to Philadelphia for a rematch Wednesday night. 🏀

Correction: In yesterday’s article highlighting the success of the Mentor High School wrestling team, we incorrectly identified the class years of Corbin Bissett and J.J. Hoynes. We reported that Bissett was a senior and Hoynes a freshman. In fact, both athletes are freshmen.
