🔥 Powerful Gusts Blamed for Fiery Power Pole Incident in Northeast Ohio

A dramatic electrical fire lit up the night sky in Mentor, Ohio, as strong winds swept through the region Sunday evening. The blaze erupted near the intersection of Route 2 and State Route 306, where intense flames were visible from a distance and captured on video by a local resident around 9:45 p.m. See the video in the fox8.com link.

Fire officials determined the incident was caused by electrical arcing on a power pole—a type of electrical explosion triggered when current jumps through the air between conductors. The powerful wind gusts moving through Northeast Ohio at the time are believed to have sparked the event.

Despite the striking appearance of the fire, emergency crews responded swiftly and were able to bring the situation under control without delay. The area had been under a wind advisory, with gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

🏠 Spring Roof Check: 4 Things Every Mentor Homeowner Should Look For After Winter

Spring Roof Inspection Checklist (Must-Do After Winter)

If your roof could talk after an Ohio winter, it would probably ask for a little attention right about now. Snow, ice, wind, and freezing temps can quietly do a number on your home—so spring is the perfect time to give things a once-over before small issues turn into expensive repairs.

Think of this as your quick, no-nonsense checklist from someone who’s seen what happens when these things get ignored.

First, scan for missing or damaged shingles. You don’t need to climb up there—just walk around your home and look for uneven spots, curling edges, or bare patches. If shingles are missing, your roof is exposed and vulnerable to leaks.

Next, check for signs of ice dam damage. Even if you didn’t notice big icicles this winter, ice can still force water under your shingles. Look for water stains on ceilings, peeling paint near rooflines, or damp spots in your attic.

Don’t forget the gutters. Winter tends to pack them with debris, and clogged gutters can cause water to back up onto your roof. Make sure they’re clear, properly attached, and draining away from your home.

Then take a look at flashing and seals—these are the metal pieces around chimneys, vents, and skylights. If anything looks loose, rusted, or lifted, water can sneak in fast.

One last tip: if anything feels “off” but you’re not sure, trust that instinct. A quick inspection from a professional now can save you thousands later.

Spring is all about fresh starts—and your roof deserves one too.

🏈 Browns Weigh Options as Sanders, Watson Lead Unsettled Depth Chart

The Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation remains a major offseason storyline, but little has changed so far. The current group—Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson—raises concerns about whether it can elevate the offense.

While Cleveland has focused on rebuilding its offensive line, questions remain at quarterback and wide receiver. Based on recent performance, the current options may struggle to raise the unit’s ceiling.

Sanders showed flashes as a rookie but was inconsistent, especially late in the season. Despite a weak supporting cast, his development fell short of expectations, leaving uncertainty about his ability to lead the offense.

Gabriel’s role is even less secure. Although the front office has indicated he remains in consideration, concerns about his fit and upside suggest he could be moved before the season.

Watson, entering the final year of his contract, is attempting a return, but his future with the team appears limited. With Cleveland not positioned to contend, the coaching staff may prioritize evaluating other options.

The broader quarterback market has largely settled, but the Browns could still explore upgrades. A potential trade target is Anthony Richardson, whose athleticism is appealing despite raw passing ability. Will Levis and Trey Lancealso present possible low-risk additions.

For now, Cleveland’s quarterback room remains unsettled, and changes could still come before the offseason ends.
