🚨 Body Recovered from Grand River Amid Search for Missing Man in Painesville

Authorities recovered a body from the Grand River in Painesville today during an active search for a missing man. The discovery occurred within the river’s waters as multiple agencies coordinated search efforts in the area. While the recovery took place during the localized search for a specific individual, officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the person found.

The scene remained active for several hours as recovery teams worked near the riverbanks. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the remains and will perform a formal autopsy to determine the cause of death and verify the identity. This process often takes several days or longer depending on the findings.

Local law enforcement has not released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the discovery or the status of the ongoing missing person investigation. Residents can expect a continued police presence near the recovery site while investigators conclude their field work. We will provide updates as the Medical Examiner releases official identification. Guidance for the community remains to avoid the immediate search perimeter to allow officials to complete the investigation without interference.

📰 Women in Construction Initiative Inspires Next Generation in Lake County

A group of Mentor-based, women-owned construction companies is helping a local student take her first steps into the trades. All Contractors Supply, Alba Contractors, and ABC Supply recently teamed up to provide Thomas W. Harvey High School student Kamari Elder with a set of professional tools to support her career ambitions.

Elder participates in Painesville City Schools’ construction and internship programs, which offer hands-on experience and a pathway into skilled trades. The programs are designed to prepare students for long-term careers through real-world training and mentorship.

The initiative also highlights efforts to bring more women into the construction industry, emphasizing the variety of roles available beyond traditional labor. Organizers hope to expand the effort by involving more women-owned businesses across Lake County.

Elder’s interest in construction stems from her passion for building and working independently, influenced by family members in the trades. She is especially interested in building homes and plans to explore different career paths after graduation.

Educators say female participation in the program is still growing and hope more young women will follow similar paths.

📰 Garfield Statue Dedication & Community Picnic July 3rd in Mentor

City of Mentor / James A Garfield

The City of Mentor will unveil a new bronze statue of President James A. Garfield at the Mentor Municipal Center on July 3, 2026. This dedication honors the nation's 20th president, who famously conducted his "front porch campaign" from his home in Mentor. The slightly larger-than-life figure is the work of Alan Cottrill, a renowned sculptor who has produced over 400 pieces, including the statue of Thomas Edison in the U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall.

The unveiling ceremony begins at 6:00 PM and serves as the centerpiece of a larger community picnic. This event allows residents to gather at the municipal grounds to celebrate local history and view the new landmark. The statue represents a significant addition to the city's public art collection, providing a permanent tribute to the only U.S. President to call Mentor home.

Community members are encouraged to arrive early for the program. The event will blend civic ceremony with casual holiday celebration, making it a key destination for the July 3rd festivities. Make plans to visit the Municipal Center at 8500 Civic Center Boulevard to witness this historic addition to the city landscape.

Sunday March 29th - Big Footer 5K

Bigfoot arrives at the Deepwood campus this Sunday for the annual Big Footer 5K, a local tradition combining fitness with support for the Deepwood Foundation. The race serves as a primary fundraiser for programs assisting Lake County residents with developmental disabilities. Participants can choose between the chip-timed 5K race or a one-mile walk, making the event accessible for serious runners and families alike.

Registration provides more than just a race entry; participants receive a themed race shirt, a finisher medal, and a full pancake breakfast following the event. Beyond the physical rewards, the course features "Bigfoot" sightings throughout the wooded campus, adding a unique local character to the morning. This event provides essential funding for the Deepwood Foundation, which provides grants for specialized equipment, summer camp scholarships, and emergency assistance for local families.

This weekend offers a direct opportunity to contribute to the quality of life for neighbors with special needs while enjoying one of Mentor’s most unique autumn traditions. Final registration remains open online through the weekend.

⚾ DeLauter’s Historic Debut Powers Guardians Past Mariners on Opening Day

Cleveland opened its 2026 season with a strong win in Seattle, fueled by a standout debut from rookie Chase DeLauter and a steady bullpen. DeLauter hit two home runs in his first major league game, leading the Guardians to a 6-4 victory over the Mariners.

The outfielder made an immediate impact, homering in his first regular-season at-bat. He added another in the ninth inning, becoming the first player in franchise history to hit two home runs in his MLB debut and just the seventh ever to do so.

Cleveland’s offense stayed productive throughout the game. José Ramírez delivered a two-run double in the seventh, while Rhys Hoskins reached base four times in his team debut. Brayan Rocchio also contributed with a key two-run double earlier in the contest.

Tanner Bibee worked five innings despite shoulder discomfort, allowing several home runs before exiting as a precaution. The Guardians’ bullpen took over and held Seattle in check over the final innings to secure the win.

The Mariners remained close with multiple home runs, including two from Dominic Canzone, but Cleveland’s late execution proved decisive as it closed out a season-opening victory.
