📪 New NOPEC Enrollment Letters Arriving for Mentor Residents

City of Mentor

Mentor residents and small businesses are being urged to watch their mail for information about NOPEC’s electric aggregation program. Enrollment letters will begin arriving in April for the term starting with June 2026 meter readings.

The mailing is required by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and is sent to eligible customers every three years. It includes program details and instructions for opting out.

Customers who wish to participate or remain enrolled do not need to take action and will be automatically placed in NOPEC’s Standard Program Price, a rate negotiated for participating communities.

NOPEC also offers alternative plans, including monthly variable rates, fixed 12- or 24-month terms, and 100% renewable energy options.

Mentor is a participating NOPEC community. More information is available on NOPEC’s website or the state’s energy choice comparison site.

🚧 King Memorial Bridge to Close April 20 for Major Repairs

City of Mentor

Drivers should prepare for a long-term road closure as the King Memorial Bridge over Interstate 90 in Kirtland Hills shuts down beginning April 20, 2026, for a bridge deck replacement project.

During construction, traffic along King Memorial Road will be redirected using a detour route via Little Mountain Road, Chillicothe Road, and Johnnycake Ridge Road.

The project is expected to continue through September 2026, with updates to be shared as new information becomes available.

🥁 Go Beyond the Battlefield: A Look at Daily Life During the American Revolution

The City of Mentor will host a historical presentation on May 20, 2026, offering a closer look at life during the American Revolution. The free event begins at 7 p.m. at the Springbrook Gardenhouse.

Historian and collector Todd Brighton will present items from his private collection, highlighting the experiences of seven Patriot soldiers. The display will include original military gear, portraits, rare documents, and early American artifacts such as trade silver, ceramics, and pewter.

The program also has a local connection through Brighton’s ancestor, Garrit Brass, who served in the Massachusetts Militia during the war’s final years. He later settled in Mentor Township in 1812 and is buried in the Mentor Municipal Cemetery.

Brighton, a retired senior policy adviser with the U.S. Department of Justice, brings both expertise and personal insight. The event is sponsored by the City of Mentor, with refreshments available. Due to the fragile artifacts and subject matter, it is not recommended for young children.

The Springbrook Gardenhouse is located at 6776 Heisley Road.

🏡 The Hidden Cost of Waiting: How Small Fixes Save Big Money

If you’re like many homeowners in Mentor, it’s easy to put off small repairs—especially when life gets busy. But a major shift is happening in 2026: more homeowners are choosing preventive maintenance over waiting until something breaks.

Why the change? For starters, many homes in Northeast Ohio are now 30 years old or older. That means aging roofs, plumbing, electrical systems, and HVAC units are more prone to wear and tear. At the same time, repair costs have climbed, making emergency fixes more expensive than ever.

Instead of reacting to problems, homeowners are getting ahead of them.

A small leak under the sink might not seem urgent—but left alone, it can lead to water damage, mold, and costly repairs. The same goes for minor electrical issues, clogged gutters, or a furnace that’s “mostly working.” What used to be a quick fix can quickly turn into a four-figure bill.

That’s why more people are building relationships with trusted local service providers—plumbers, electricians, HVAC pros, and more—who can regularly inspect and maintain their homes. These ongoing checkups help catch issues early, often saving money and avoiding stress down the road.

The big takeaway? Preventive maintenance isn’t just a trend—it’s becoming the smarter, more affordable way to protect your home.

If something in your home has been “on your list” for a while, now might be the time to take care of it—before it turns into something much bigger.

🏀 Mitchell Powers Cavs Past Jazz in Return to Utah

Donovan Mitchell delivered in his return to Utah, leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 122-113 win and their sixth victory in seven games.

Mitchell scored 34 points on 10-of-18 shooting with five assists, also recording his 197th 20-point game with Cleveland — fifth-most in franchise history.

The Cavs built a double-digit halftime lead but couldn’t shake a short-handed Jazz team, which tied the game in the fourth and briefly went ahead midway through the period.

Cleveland answered decisively, closing on a 19-8 run to secure the win.

Evan Mobley matched Mitchell with a season-high 34 points and 17 rebounds, while James Harden added 13 points and 14 assists in another strong playmaking performance.

Despite some lapses, Cleveland’s top talent proved the difference as it continued its strong push in the Eastern Conference.

⚾ Guardians Use Seventh-Inning Surge to Defeat Dodgers

The Cleveland Guardians handed the Dodgers their first loss of the season Monday night, securing a 4-2 victory behind timely hitting and strong pitching.

Parker Messick set the tone on the mound, keeping Los Angeles scoreless while working efficiently through key moments. He worked out of early trouble, including a pivotal third inning where Cleveland maintained its lead after a sharp defensive sequence erased a scoring threat.

Roki Sasaki impressed in his return for the Dodgers, but Cleveland broke through early and stayed in control. The Guardians created separation in the seventh inning, capitalizing on a bases-loaded opportunity with a walk and a two-run double to extend the lead.

The Dodgers mounted a late push in the ninth, but Cleveland’s cushion held firm to close out the win.

With the victory, the Guardians take early momentum in the series and will look to build on it in the next matchup.
