📰 Mentor Invites Artists to Transform Rain Barrels into Public Art

The Mentor Community Arts Commission is seeking artists for its 2026 “Water Barrel Wonders” program, combining public art with environmental awareness. Participants are invited to transform rain barrels into creative pieces that highlight the importance of protecting Lake Erie.

Selected works will be displayed in prominent locations across Mentor during a summer-long celebration. Each barrel will also be part of a citywide scavenger hunt, allowing visitors to scan QR codes and enter to win prizes.

Artists will receive stipends for materials and completion, and may sell their finished barrels through an online auction.

Applications require a full-color design using official templates and a $10 fee. Submissions are due April 29, with notifications in early May. Barrel pickup is scheduled for May 6–8, with a completion deadline of June 17. The exhibition will run from June through August.

📊 Strong Demand Keeps Mentor Office Space Near Full Capacity

Mentor’s office market remains one of the tightest in the region, with a vacancy rate of 2.6% in the first quarter of 2026. The figure shows a slight increase from the previous quarter but an improvement compared to the same time last year, reflecting continued stability in the city’s commercial sector.

The latest regional office market analysis, covering approximately 148 million square feet across eight Northeast Ohio counties, reports an overall vacancy rate of 9.8%. Lake County stands out with a lower rate of 3.5%, despite a modest year-over-year increase.

Mentor accounts for more than a third of Lake County’s roughly 5 million square feet of office space. Despite minor fluctuations, the city’s vacancy rate remains well below both county and regional averages.

Several sizable office spaces remain available in Mentor, including locations on Mentor Avenue, Lindsay Drive, and Tyler Boulevard, offering opportunities for businesses looking to expand or relocate.

📰 Mentor to Host NOPEC Electric Aggregation Meeting April 13

Residents of Mentor are invited to attend an upcoming informational meeting focused on the city’s electric aggregation program. The session will take place on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the main branch of the Mentor Public Library.

During the meeting, representatives will explain the electric aggregation anniversary process and outline what residents can expect from enrollment letters arriving in April. These notices are part of a required cycle overseen by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, ensuring that both current participants and newly eligible customers receive updated program information every three years.

The mailing of these letters to Mentor households is scheduled to begin this month, providing residents with details about their participation and available options.

A Teaspoon On An Empty Stomach May Remove 12Lbs Of Fat Per Week

Taken on an empty stomach, this small teaspoon habit is getting attention for how it may influence appetite signals before the first meal of the day. The idea is simple: trigger fullness sooner, reduce cravings later, and help the body use stored fat for energy instead of storing more around the waist.

🩺 Small Changes, Big Results: The New Science of Getting Healthier Without Overhauling Your Life

If getting healthier feels overwhelming, new research offers a refreshing truth: You don’t need a complete lifestyle overhaul to see real results. Studies from 2025–2026 show that small, consistent habits—especially around sleep, movement, and diet—can significantly lower heart disease risk and even extend your life.

Start With Sleep

Sleep is one of the easiest and most powerful upgrades.

Adding just 10–15 extra minutes per night can improve heart health. Even more impactful is keeping a consistent sleep schedule.

Try this:

  • Set a wind-down alarm 30 minutes before bed

  • Limit screens late at night

  • Go to bed within the same 30-minute window each night

Move More—Without the Gym

You don’t need intense workouts. Short bursts of movement throughout the day can boost energy, improve circulation, and reduce stiffness.

Simple ideas:

  • Take a 5–10 minute walk after meals

  • Stand up and move every hour

  • Choose stairs or park farther away

These small efforts add up quickly.

Upgrade One Daily Habit

Instead of changing everything, focus on one improvement at a time.

Examples:

  • Replace one sugary drink with water

  • Add a fruit or vegetable to a meal

  • Cut back on late-night snacking

These are easy to maintain—and that’s what leads to lasting results.

⚾ Rocchio’s Walk-Off Hit Lifts Guardians Over Royals in Chilly Cleveland Clash

Cleveland delivered a dramatic finish on a frigid afternoon, as Brayan Rocchio drove in the winning run with a ninth-inning single to secure a 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

The decisive moment came after CJ Kayfus reached base and moved into scoring position. Rocchio’s hit into right field allowed Kayfus to slide home just ahead of the throw and seal the walk-off win.

The Guardians had tied the game in the fifth inning when Steven Kwan drove in a run with a single after Austin Hedges advanced into scoring position.

Kansas City’s lone highlight came from rookie Carter Jensen, who hit a solo home run in the second inning—his third of the season and second in as many games.

Cleveland’s pitching staff dominated, combining for a one-hitter. Cade Smith closed out the ninth inning cleanly to earn the win, marking the team’s first one-hit performance since last season.

The game was played in bitter cold conditions after being moved earlier in the day, with temperatures at 33 degrees at first pitch—one of the coldest games at Progressive Field in recent years.

The series concludes Wednesday with left-handers Cole Ragans and Joey Cantillo set to start.
