How One Wellness Brand Is Helping America Sleep Better

You know the importance of sleep, but actually getting enough is easier said than done. One wellness brand decided to study the problem and whether CBD could help.

CBD users have long reported feeling calmer and sleeping better, whether taking the compound by itself or with related hemp-derived compounds like CBN and THC. But rumor isn’t research, so CBDistillery conducted two sleep studies: a 2021 study into CBD and CBN, and a 2023 study with technology app Releaf into CBD, CBN and THC.

Study participants who took CBD and CBN reported falling asleep easier and sleeping an hour longer per night, on average. Study participants who took THC as well as CBD and CBN reported improved quality of sleep and waking up more refreshed the next morning.

🌐 AT&T Begins Fiber Optic Expansion Across Mentor Neighborhoods

City of Mentor

AT&T is expanding its high-speed internet infrastructure in Mentor, installing new fiber optic cables in neighborhoods over the coming weeks to deliver faster, more reliable connectivity.

Homeowners in affected areas will receive notification letters with project details. Work will take place within established utility easements and public rights of way, though some activity may occur near residential properties. Crews may need to access underground network points, which could involve limited digging or tree trimming.

Residents will notice temporary colored flags and painted markings identifying underground utilities. These markers are required for safety and should not be disturbed. Those with sprinkler systems, invisible pet fences, or other underground features in easement areas are encouraged to mark them clearly to prevent damage.

Crews will restore any disturbed areas to their original or improved condition. Construction is expected to begin within two weeks of notification and wrap up in about a month, including restoration.

The project will proceed in three phases: installing fiber cables and infrastructure, connecting the network, and finally linking individual homes upon request. Contractor and AT&T vehicles will be present throughout the process. Fiber service is expected to become available within a month after construction is complete.

🏛️ Mentor Council Advances Road Projects, Tackles Traffic Concerns

City of Mentor

Mentor City Council’s April 7 meeting highlighted community heroism, infrastructure investments, and ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow along Mentor Avenue.

Two residents were recognized for helping police locate two young children who wandered outside a hotel during dangerous winter conditions earlier this year. Their quick actions prevented serious harm.

Council approved several funding measures, including $2 million in advances for road repairs and shoreline work, along with additional appropriations for splash pad construction, fire department generator services, and equipment purchases.

Multiple infrastructure items moved forward, including agreements with Mentor-on-the-Lake for 2026 asphalt and concrete road programs. The city also approved new police equipment purchases, including duty weapons and in-car data terminals.

City officials announced signal timing changes at the busy Mentor Avenue and Chillicothe Road intersection, along with relocation of a nearby bus stop to reduce congestion. Further adjustments may follow as traffic patterns are monitored.

Additional updates included the start of yard waste collection, progress on the Mentor Marsh observation tower, and certification of the Mentor Marina as a Gold Level Ohio Clean Marina.

Residents raised concerns about park lighting and traffic congestion, offering suggestions for improvements.

🎂 Mentor Municipal Center Celebrates 50 Years of Service

City of Mentor

The Mentor Municipal Center is celebrating its 50th anniversary, marking decades of service since opening in 1976.

Before its construction, Mentor Village Hall served as the center of local government beginning in 1888. After the 1963 merger of the village and township, it became Mentor City Hall. As the community grew, leaders identified the need for a larger, more modern facility.

Planning for a new complex began soon after, with construction starting in 1975. In March 1976, city employees completed a swift move into the new building, which opened immediately. The first City Council meeting there took place in early April.

The building was noted for its modern design, including a lobby intended for community exhibits and gatherings—a role it continues to serve today. Over time, the complex expanded to include a police station, courthouse, and a major addition completed in 1997.

Fifty years later, the Mentor Municipal Center remains a central hub for local government and community activity.

☠️ One Common Ingredient Could Be Deadly for Your Dog

Hidden Household Dangers Are Putting Pets at Risk — What Mentor Owners Need to Know

More than 376,000 pet poisoning cases were reported across the U.S. in 2025—and the biggest threat isn’t something exotic. It’s everyday household items.

The leading cause? Human medications and common products left within reach. As more people in Mentor work from home, pets are spending more time around things they were never meant to access—like pills on nightstands, snacks on counters, or cleaning supplies under the sink.

One of the most dangerous ingredients to watch for is xylitol, a sugar substitute found in gum, toothpaste, baked goods, and even some peanut butters. For dogs, even small amounts can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar or severe liver damage.

Spring cleaning also raises the risk. Open cabinets, spilled cleaners, and unattended supplies can quickly turn into a dangerous situation for curious pets.

Here are a few simple ways to protect your pet:

  • Treat medications like you would around a toddler—store them high and secure

  • Always check peanut butter labels—never buy anything with xylitol

  • Create a designated “pet-safe zone” in your kitchen or main living area

  • Keep cleaning products locked away, especially during use

  • Save the ASPCA Animal Poison Control number: (888) 426-4435

The good news? Most pet poisoning cases are preventable with just a few small changes. Awareness is your best defense—and it could save your pet’s life.

The weight loss, she says, was just a bonus.

⚾ Cleveland Dominates Royals Behind 16-Hit Attack and Late Slam

The Cleveland Guardians cruised to a 10-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, fueled by a 16-hit performance that featured seven doubles and a late grand slam.

The game shifted early when José Ramírez hit a ball that struck Royals starter Cole Ragans on the thumb. Ragans briefly stayed in but quickly lost control, issuing a walk and allowing a two-run double that gave Cleveland the lead.

Cleveland kept the pressure on throughout. Ramírez added an RBI double in the second, Rhys Hoskins collected three doubles, and rookie Juan Brito recorded his first major league hit and RBI.

Joey Cantillo delivered a strong outing, pitching into the sixth inning while allowing two runs and striking out nine to keep Kansas City in check.

The Guardians sealed the win in the eighth with a five-run surge, highlighted by Angel Martinez’s grand slam during a four-hit game. Cleveland’s offense proved too much, as the team posted its highest hit total since September.

🥍 Mentor Falls to St. Edward Despite Collins’ Strong Performance

The Mentor boys lacrosse team couldn’t keep up with St. Edward’s offense Tuesday, falling 17-7 in a conference matchup.

The Cardinals remained competitive early, but the Eagles took control in the second quarter, building a lead that carried into halftime. St. Edward extended its advantage in the third, limiting Mentor’s chances and maintaining steady pressure.

Carter Collins led Mentor with three goals and two assists, while Ben Schenk added a goal and two assists. Kane Rocco and Patrick Zigman also scored, but the Cardinals struggled to sustain offensive momentum.

Faceoffs were evenly split, but Mentor couldn’t turn possessions into enough scoring opportunities. Defensively, the Cardinals collected ground balls but faced constant pressure, with their goalie handling a heavy workload.

St. Edward was powered by Kellen Juliana and Jack Abraham, whose scoring helped break the game open.

Mentor will look to rebound at home against unbeaten Padua Franciscan (2-0) in its next game.
