💸 Assistance Programs Available to Help Ohioans Manage Utility Bills

Ohio officials are highlighting programs to help residents—especially older adults on fixed or limited incomes—manage rising home energy costs.
The Ohio Department of Aging works with state agencies and the aging network to connect eligible residents with assistance. Partners include the Ohio Department of Development, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel.
Available programs include the Home Energy Assistance Program for utility bills, the Home Weatherization Assistance Program to improve energy efficiency and the Percentage of Income Payment Plan, which bases payments on household income.
Seasonal crisis programs provide one-time help for utility bills or equipment repairs. The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio also offers consumer protections and assistance with utility-related issues.
Residents can apply online or seek help through state hotlines and local agencies.

💥 Why You Crash Every Afternoon (And It’s Not Just Age)
Most people assume that afternoon crash around 2PM is just part of getting older. It’s not.
What you’re feeling is usually a combination of blood sugar swings, mild dehydration, and how your body is being fueled earlier in the day.
Here’s what often happens.
A typical morning might include coffee, maybe something quick like toast or nothing at all, followed by a heavier lunch—sandwich, chips, maybe something sugary. That pattern causes your blood sugar to spike and then drop fast, leaving you tired, foggy, and reaching for caffeine or snacks just to get through the rest of the day.
It’s not a willpower issue—it’s a rhythm problem.
The good news is this is fixable without a major diet overhaul.
A few small adjustments can make a noticeable difference:
• Start your day with some protein (eggs, Greek yogurt, or even a protein shake)
• Drink water earlier than you think you need it—not just when you feel thirsty
• Avoid stacking caffeine late morning into early afternoon
• Build a more balanced lunch (protein + fiber instead of mostly carbs)
• Take a short 5–10 minute walk after eating to stabilize energy
These aren’t dramatic changes, but they help prevent the spike-and-crash cycle that drains your energy every day.
For many people in Mentor balancing work, errands, and home responsibilities, steady energy matters more than peak energy. You don’t need to feel “amped up”—you just need to stop feeling wiped out.
Start by fixing the pattern, not the symptoms. That’s where the real change happens.

⚾ Guardians Shut Out Again as Offensive Woes Continue
Cleveland’s offensive struggles continued Tuesday night as the Guardians fell 1-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays, marking their fourth straight loss and fifth in the last six games.
Despite a solid outing from starter Tanner Bibee, Cleveland couldn’t find a way to score. Bibee limited the Rays to one run over five innings while striking out six, but took the loss as the Guardians’ lineup failed to deliver in key moments.
The game’s only run came in the fifth inning, when Tampa Bay capitalized on a walk and a pair of hits to push across the deciding score.
Cleveland had its best chance in the eighth inning, loading the bases with one out, but the rally stalled under pressure as Tampa Bay’s bullpen escaped the jam without allowing a run. A late push in the ninth also came up short.
Highly touted prospect Travis Bazzana made his major league debut, reaching base twice on walks but going hitless.
With the loss, Cleveland continues to search for consistency at the plate as the series heads into its final matchup.

⚾ Captains Rally Falls Short in 10-9 Loss to Beloit
The Lake County Captains opened their home series with a 10-9 loss to the Beloit Sky Carp, as control issues on the mound proved costly despite a late push.
Lake County pitchers issued 15 walks, allowing Beloit to build an early lead with runs in the first four innings and extend it to 7-3 by the fifth.
The Captains responded in the fourth when Aaron Walton and Nolan Schubart hit home runs to cut into the deficit. Lake County continued to chip away and pulled within a run late.
Beloit added a key insurance run on a sixth-inning home run, which held up as the difference. The Captains mounted a ninth-inning rally, bringing the tying run into play, but a final flyout ended the comeback bid.
Despite the loss, Lake County showed resilience, but the early pitching struggles proved too much to overcome. The series continues in Eastlake with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
