🌳 Keller Williams Team to Spend RED Day Beautifying Mentor-on-the-Lake

Keller Williams Realty associates will volunteer in Mentor-on-the-Lake on May 14 as part of the company’s annual RED Day community service initiative.

RED Day, which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate, is held each year on the second Thursday in May and encourages employees to focus on community improvement projects.

Volunteers are scheduled to begin work at 9 a.m. at City Hall and McMinn Memorial Park and Field, where crews will complete landscaping, cleanup and maintenance projects aimed at improving public spaces.

Planned work includes mulching landscape beds, removing weeds and debris, trimming trees and clearing fence lines. Volunteers also will level areas near fence posts and prepare sections for future improvements.

Additional upgrades will include painting dugouts, restoring bleachers and revitalizing rear field areas through cleanup and leveling work.

City officials said the volunteer effort will help maintain parks and improve the appearance of public facilities throughout the community.

Keller Williams representatives said the annual service day reflects the company’s commitment to community involvement and creating a lasting local impact.

🌳 Veterans Park Chosen for Lake County’s America 250 Heritage Tree Ceremony

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Lake County will join Ohio’s America 250 celebration with a ceremonial heritage tree planting on May 21 in downtown Painesville.

The event, scheduled for 1 p.m. at Veterans Park, 1 Liberty St., is part of the “Heritage Trees: Planting History” initiative led by America 250-Ohio. The statewide program aims to plant a native Ohio white oak in each of Ohio’s 88 counties ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

White oaks were selected because they adapt well to different soil conditions and resist many common diseases. Officials said each county’s tree will be chosen to match local climate conditions and supplied by an Ohio nursery.

Painesville was selected for the planting because it serves as the Lake County seat. Veterans Park, located near City Hall and the Lake County Administration Building, was chosen as a central gathering place for the ceremony.

County officials described the project as both a tribute to American history and a long-term investment in the community. The initiative also draws inspiration from Boston’s historic Liberty Tree, a symbol of unity during the Revolutionary War.

The Heritage Trees program is supported by Cenovus Energy, Ohio Liquor and The Lubrizol Foundation, along with several environmental and conservation partners.

🏛️ Mentor Shares Updates on Pool, Sidewalk and Road Projects

MENTOR, Ohio — Mentor officials shared updates on several ongoing city projects during the May 5 City Council meeting, including the Civic Center pool redevelopment, Tyler Boulevard sidewalks and Lakeshore Boulevard resurfacing.

City Manager Kenneth Filipiak said the delayed Civic Center pool project is making visible progress after months of underground utility and foundational work. Officials acknowledged weather delays and aging infrastructure pushed completion into next year. The city believes the new water projects will be ready for next years swimming season.

The revamped facility will feature new slides and upgraded amenities, while Morton Pool and the Mentor Recreation Center pool will remain available this summer.

Officials also reported progress on the new Tyler Boulevard sidewalk project, with more than 1,800 linear feet already installed.

Meanwhile, resurfacing work on Lakeshore Boulevard resumed May 4 and is expected to wrap up within weeks.

The city also completed installation of a replacement culvert under Savannah Drive following storm-related damage earlier this year.

🏘️ Should You Buy a Home in Mentor Right Now? Here’s the Truth

If you’ve been watching national real estate headlines lately, you’ve probably heard everything from “prices are crashing” to “buy now before rates rise again.”

But here’s the truth for buyers in Mentor, Ohio:

The local market often behaves very differently from what you see on national news.

In many Mentor neighborhoods, well-maintained homes in desirable price ranges are still moving relatively quickly—especially homes priced under roughly $400,000. Inventory remains tighter than many buyers expect, which means waiting for the “perfect market” can sometimes backfire.

At the same time, higher interest rates have changed what buyers can comfortably afford each month. A home that felt manageable two years ago may carry a noticeably larger monthly payment today.

So… should you buy now or wait?

The answer depends less on predicting the market and more on your personal situation.

If you:

  • have stable income,

  • plan to stay in the home for several years,

  • and have your finances prepared,

buying now may still make strong long-term sense—especially if you find the right home in the right location.

On the other hand, if you’re stretching your budget too tightly or hoping rates will drop dramatically in the near future, waiting may be the smarter move.

One thing many local buyers are discovering is that competition hasn’t disappeared in Mentor—it has simply become more selective.

Homes that are clean, updated, and priced correctly still attract strong interest.

The best strategy right now isn’t panic buying or fear-based waiting.

It’s understanding the local market, knowing your numbers, and being ready when the right opportunity appears.

Thinking about buying—or waiting? Our full website article breaks down what today’s housing market actually feels like for Mentor buyers, why some residents are holding off, why others are moving forward, and what smart local buyers are doing differently right now.
