🚧 Civic Center Blvd. in Mentor Closed for Three Weeks of Road Repairs

City of Mentor
MENTOR, Ohio — Drivers in Mentor should prepare for traffic changes as concrete road repairs begin on Civic Center Boulevard starting Tuesday, May 19. The project, being completed by A&J Cement, will require a full closure of Civic Center Boulevard between Center Street and Munson Road.
During construction, motorists will be directed to use Munson Road as the official detour route. Despite the closure, access to key city facilities—including the Civic Center, Fire Station, and Senior Center—will remain available throughout the project.
City officials expect the repair work to last approximately three weeks. Civic Center Boulevard is also scheduled to temporarily reopen on June 2 to allow traffic access for the Mentor Rocks concert before construction resumes if necessary.

⚔️ Revolutionary War Artifacts Presentation at Springbrook Gardenhouse Tonight
MENTOR, Ohio — History enthusiasts can explore America’s Revolutionary War era during a special presentation hosted by the City of Mentor on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 7 p.m. at Springbrook Gardenhouse.
Historian and collector Todd Brighton will present “Forging a Nation: Patriot Artifacts and Stories from the American Revolution,” highlighting the daily lives of Americans during the nation’s fight for independence.
Using artifacts from his private collection, Brighton will share the stories of seven Patriot soldiers through authentic military gear, original portraits, rare manuscripts, and early American items including Native American trade silver, ceramics, and pewter.
The event also includes a local historical connection. Brighton’s fourth great-grandfather, Garrit Brass, served with the Massachusetts Militia and the 1st Massachusetts Regiment during the Revolutionary War before settling in Mentor Township in 1812. His family farm was located near present-day Garfield Road, and he is buried in Mentor Municipal Cemetery.
Brighton spent 35 years in federal public service, primarily as a Senior Policy Advisor with the U.S. Department of Justice.
The free event is sponsored by the City of Mentor, with light refreshments provided. Due to the nature of the presentation and fragile artifacts, organizers say it may not be suitable for young children.
Springbrook Gardenhouse is located at 6776 Heisley Road in Mentor.

❤️ The Hidden Reason You’re Not Losing Weight (Even When You’re Trying)
If you feel like you’re trying to lose weight but nothing seems to work anymore, you’re not imagining it.
For many adults, especially after years of stress, inconsistent sleep, weight gain, or sedentary routines, the issue often has less to do with willpower—and more to do with how the body is responding behind the scenes.
One major factor is insulin.
When meals and snacks constantly spike blood sugar—especially from processed carbs and sugary drinks—the body produces more insulin to manage it. Over time, this can make fat loss harder, increase cravings, and create energy crashes that push people toward more snacking later in the day.
Sleep also matters more than most people realize.
Poor sleep disrupts hunger hormones and increases cravings for high-calorie foods. Even people making decent food choices often struggle when they’re exhausted, stressed, and eating late at night.
That’s why many people feel stuck:
They’re trying harder—but their body is working against them.
The good news is that meaningful progress often starts with a few targeted changes instead of extreme diets.
For many people, these matter most:
• Stop eating so late at night whenever possible
• Prioritize protein earlier in the day
• Reduce liquid calories and sugary drinks
• Try to maintain more consistent sleep and wake times
• Focus on consistency instead of perfection
This isn’t about starving yourself or chasing quick results. It’s about helping your body regulate energy, hunger, and recovery more effectively.
For many residents in Mentor, especially busy adults balancing work and family responsibilities, sustainable changes usually outperform aggressive diets that only last a few weeks.
Real progress often comes from fixing the patterns—not fighting your body harder.

🏀 Cleveland Blows 22-Point Lead in Stunning Playoff Defeat
The Cleveland Cavaliers suffered a crushing collapse Tuesday night, blowing a 22-point fourth-quarter lead in a 115-104 overtime loss to the New York Knicks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals at Madison Square Garden.
Cleveland appeared firmly in control after building a 93-71 advantage with under eight minutes remaining, dominating most of the game behind Donovan Mitchell’s 29 points. But the Cavaliers unraveled late as New York closed regulation on a massive comeback fueled by Jalen Brunson, who finished with 38 points.
The Knicks stormed back with an 18-1 run in the final minutes before Brunson tied the game at 101 with 19 seconds left. New York then opened overtime with a 9-0 burst while the Cavaliers struggled to regain momentum.
The Knicks outscored Cleveland 44-11 after trailing by 22 points, turning what looked like a statement road win into one of the largest fourth-quarter collapses in recent NBA playoff history.
Evan Mobley added 15 points and 14 rebounds for Cleveland, while James Harden scored 15 points but struggled from long range, hitting just one 3-pointer and committing six turnovers.
Despite controlling the first three quarters, the Cavaliers now trail the series 1-0 heading into Game 2 on Thursday night in New York.

⚾ Guardians Hold Off Tigers 4-3 for Fourth Straight Victory
The Cleveland Guardians won their fourth straight game Tuesday night, defeating the Detroit Tigers 4-3 at Comerica Park.
Travis Bazzana hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, and Brayan Rocchio drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh with a groundout that scored Steven Kwan.
The Tigers threatened in the ninth after putting runners on first and second with one out, but Guardians closer Cade Smith struck out the final two batters for his 15th save.
Cleveland took an early lead on Kwan’s sacrifice fly before Detroit answered with a two-run homer by Spencer Torkelson. Bazzana’s homer put the Guardians back in front, though the Tigers tied the game later in the inning when Riley Greene scored on a throwing error.
Greene reached base eight straight times over the first two games of the series.
Colin Holderman earned the win with a scoreless sixth inning, while Detroit’s Keider Montero allowed three runs over five innings.
The series continues Wednesday with Cleveland scheduled to start Tanner Bibee.
