🚨 Dropped ID Leads Police to Suspects in Overnight Auto Thefts

MENTOR-ON-THE-LAKE, Ohio — Police have identified three suspects connected to a series of vehicle break-ins that affected residents across Mentor-on-the-Lake during the night of June 1.

According to the Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department, the suspects, ages 17 to 18, were identified after one reportedly dropped a personal identification card while the crimes were being committed. Investigators say some stolen property has been recovered and returned, while additional items are being matched with owners.

A large number of vehicles parked throughout the city were entered and items were taken. Some vehicles had been left unlocked, while others may have been accessed through other means.

Authorities are continuing to assess the scope of the incidents. Formal charges are expected once investigators determine the total number of victims and calculate the value of the stolen property.

Residents who discover missing belongings are encouraged to contact police regarding recovered property. Investigators are also asking anyone with information related to the break-ins to come forward.

Police previously urged residents to review security camera footage and vehicle app records that could help establish a timeline of the suspects’ movements. The department also reminded vehicle owners to lock doors, close windows, and avoid leaving valuables visible inside vehicles.

Anyone with information can contact the Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department at 440-257-7234.

Mentor Offers Summer Reminders on Fireworks, Lawn Care and Power Outages

MENTOR, Ohio — The City of Mentor is sharing several seasonal reminders as summer activities increase throughout the community.

Backyard Fireworks

Although fireworks are legal in many parts of Ohio, they remain prohibited within Mentor city limits. The sale or discharge of fireworks in the city is a violation of local ordinance and can result in a fourth-degree misdemeanor charge.

Residents are encouraged to celebrate the Fourth of July by attending the community fireworks display at Civic Center Park rather than using fireworks at home.

Garage Sales

No permit is required to hold a garage sale in Mentor, but signs are only permitted on the property where the sale is taking place.

Signs placed at street corners, on utility poles, or in tree lawns are not allowed and may be removed by city staff without notice.

Grass and Weed Control

Property owners are reminded to keep lawns and landscaping maintained to help preserve neighborhood appearance.

Residential grass should generally remain under eight inches in height. Owners who receive a notice from the city’s Code Enforcement Office have 48 hours to address high grass or weed violations. Failure to comply may result in city crews performing the work at the owner’s expense. Questions can be directed to 440-974-5740.

Power Outages

Residents should report power outages directly to FirstEnergy at 888-544-4877 or through the company’s online and text reporting options.

Officials also remind residents not to call 911 for power outages unless there is an emergency.

Health & Wellness

Most people have experienced it.

You decide you're going to take better care of yourself. Maybe that means walking more, eating a little healthier, getting better sleep, or drinking more water.

For a few days, things go well. Then life gets busy.

Work runs long. Family responsibilities pile up. The weather isn't great. Before you know it, those good intentions get pushed to tomorrow.

Many people assume the problem is motivation. But that's often not the case.

The truth is that healthy habits frequently break down because of hidden obstacles that make them harder than they need to be. Sometimes it's too many decisions. Sometimes it's poor timing. Sometimes it's simply trying to take on too much at once.

For many families in Mentor and across Northeast Ohio, life is already full. Between work schedules, school activities, household responsibilities, and everything else competing for attention, even healthy choices can start to feel like another task on the list.

The people who stay consistent aren't always the most motivated. Often, they've simply made healthy habits easier.

Instead of committing to a 45-minute workout, they start with a short walk. Instead of creating a complicated meal plan, they rely on a few healthy meals they know they'll actually make. Instead of depending on willpower, they build simple routines.

The goal isn't becoming more disciplined. It's removing the obstacles that make healthy choices harder than they need to be.

Small changes may not seem impressive, but they're often the ones that last.

👉 In the full article, we'll show you how to identify the hidden obstacles getting in your way and share a simple exercise that can help make healthy habits easier to maintain. Many people don't need more motivation—they need fewer obstacles. Here's how to identify what's getting in the way and create habits that fit your real life.

⚾ José Ramírez Breaks Out With Three Doubles as Guardians Top Yankees

NEW YORK, NY — José Ramírez doubled in three straight at-bats and drove in the go-ahead run as the Cleveland Guardians defeated the New York Yankees 9-4 on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

Ramírez, who entered the game in a slump, recorded three doubles and two RBIs. Kyle Manzardo added a two-run homer in the fourth inning, and rookie Travis Bazzana delivered a three-run double in the eighth as Cleveland totaled 12 hits and scored its most runs since May 17.

Paul Goldschmidt accounted for all four Yankees runs, hitting a two-run homer in the third inning and adding a two-run single in the fourth to briefly give New York a 4-3 lead.

The Guardians answered in the fifth after loading the bases. Bazzana’s sacrifice fly tied the game before Ramírez lined a double down the right-field line to put Cleveland ahead 5-4. He added another RBI double in the seventh to extend the lead.

Yankees starter Cam Schlittler allowed five runs, four earned, over 4 1/3 innings. Cleveland starter Joey Cantillo gave up four runs in four innings before the Guardians bullpen shut down New York the rest of the way. Colin Holderman earned the win.

The Yankees played without Aaron Judge, who missed his first game of the season because of a bone bruise in his upper right rib.

The series continues Wednesday with Cleveland’s Gavin Williams scheduled to face New York’s Gerrit Cole.
