⛳ Black Brook Golf Course Parking Lot Upgrade Nearing Completion

MENTOR, Ohio — Golfers and visitors to Black Brook Golf Course will soon see the results of a major improvement project underway since last fall.

The City of Mentor is nearing completion of a roughly $700,000 upgrade to modernize the golf course parking area. Work began in October and is expected to wrap up by the end of June, weather permitting.

According to Mentor Parks and Recreation Director Kenn Kaminski, the project includes a full reconstruction of the parking lot and improvements aimed at enhancing safety, accessibility, and the visitor experience.

Upgrades include moving overhead utility lines underground, installing new curbing and lighting, improving drainage and traffic flow, resurfacing parking areas, and expanding standard and ADA-accessible spaces.

City officials say the improvements will support one of Mentor’s busiest recreational facilities while creating a more attractive entrance.

Kaminski said the project was needed as the parking lot aged despite continued strong use of the golf course.

🫗 Protecting Lake Erie Starts in Our Own Backyards

MENTOR, Ohio — Summer rain replenishes drinking water supplies, supports wildlife habitats, and helps keep parks and beaches enjoyable. However, stormwater runoff can carry pollutants from streets, lawns, and driveways into local waterways.

City officials are encouraging residents to take simple steps to reduce stormwater pollution and protect Lake County’s streams, rivers, and shoreline.

Effective actions include properly storing and disposing of hazardous materials such as used oil, paint, and cleaning products, cleaning up spills promptly, and avoiding dumping yard waste near waterways.

Residents should also use fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides sparingly, pick up and properly dispose of pet waste, and keep outdoor garbage in leak-proof containers with tight-fitting lids.

Homeowners can further reduce runoff by installing rain barrels or rain gardens to capture stormwater before it leaves their property.

The City of Mentor also encourages residents to use Lake County’s hazardous waste collection events throughout the year.

Officials say protecting local waterways begins with everyday choices at home, and small actions can make a meaningful difference in water quality. For more information, contact the City of Mentor Building and Engineering Department at (440) 255-1100.

🏘️ The One Home Feature You Can't Change Later

MENTOR, Ohio — When people start looking for a home, it's easy to focus on the house itself.

The kitchen. The layout. The number of bedrooms. The finished basement.

Those features matter, of course. But ask homeowners who have lived somewhere for years what they value most, and many point to something else entirely:

The neighborhood.

That's because daily life happens beyond your front door.

It's the route you drive to work each morning. The park where you take your kids or walk your dog. The traffic you deal with on a busy afternoon. The convenience of being close to shopping, restaurants, schools, or recreation.

In Mentor, one neighborhood might offer quick access to Mentor Avenue and everyday conveniences, while another may provide a quieter setting closer to parks, trails, or the lakefront.

Neither is automatically better. It depends on the lifestyle you want.

Most home features can be updated over time. Kitchens can be remodeled. Flooring can be replaced. Walls can be repainted.

Location is different.

That's why experienced homeowners often recommend spending as much time exploring the neighborhood as you do touring the house.

Take a walk. Visit at different times of day. Pay attention to traffic, noise, and how people use the area.

Because years after moving in, it's often the neighborhood—not the countertops—that shapes how much you enjoy living there.

Our full website article explores how neighborhoods shape daily life, the questions buyers often forget to ask, and practical ways to evaluate a community before making one of life's biggest investments.

⚾ Guardians Shut Out as Rangers Power Their Way to 10-0 Win

ARLINGTON, TX — The Guardians' strong recent run hit a bump Sunday in Texas.

Jacob deGrom tossed six scoreless innings and the Rangers hit four home runs in a 10-0 win over Cleveland, giving Texas the series victory two games to one.

Cleveland’s best scoring chance came in the fifth when it loaded the bases against deGrom, but the veteran escaped by striking out José Ramírez. He then fanned the final four batters he faced.

Texas took control early on Justin Foscue’s two-run homer in the first inning. Josh Jung, Wyatt Langford, and Michael Helman also homered.

Guardians starter Joey Cantillo struck out seven over five innings but allowed seven earned runs.

Despite the loss, Cleveland is 19-11 over its last 30 games. The Guardians were shut out for only the sixth time this season.

Cleveland returns home Monday to open a series against the Yankees. Gavin Williams will try to become the majors’ first 10-game winner of the season.
