📰 Mentor Rocks Cooler Policy Draws Questions From Council Members
MENTOR, Ohio — Residents who attend Mentor Rocks concerts this summer may notice a significant change: coolers are no longer permitted at the popular weekly events.
The new policy became a topic of discussion during Mentor City Council's June 2 meeting, with several council members raising concerns about how the change was communicated and what it means for families attending concerts.
Councilman John Krueger questioned why the policy was announced so close to the start of the season, noting that many concertgoers have brought coolers, wagons, and picnic supplies to Mentor Rocks for years.
Police Chief Ken Gunsch said officers regularly deal with violations involving outside alcohol entering the venue. He noted that enforcement efforts can pull officers away from broader public safety responsibilities during large events.
Councilman Sean Blake said residents have also been asking for more specifics about what qualifies as a cooler.
Questions have surfaced about whether insulated bags, backpacks containing snacks and water, or containers used to carry items for children would fall under the restriction.
No formal action was taken by council.
What happens next remains unclear, but city officials indicated additional clarification may be needed as the concert season continues.
For many residents, the discussion reflects a broader challenge: preserving the relaxed, family atmosphere that has helped make Mentor Rocks a summer tradition while addressing evolving safety concerns.

🏛️ Lake Metroparks Set to Receive $500,000 for Future Park Projects
Lake Metroparks could soon receive a boost for future park projects.
MENTOR, Ohio — Under Ohio's recently approved Senate Bill 450, the state's capital budget, Lake Metroparks is expected to receive $500,000 for park improvements once the legislation receives final approval from Gov. Mike DeWine.
According to Lake Metroparks Executive Director Paul Palagyi, the funding could help improve public access along the Lakefront Trail system or support amenities such as shelters and shoreline viewing platforms.
The Lakefront Trail has become a popular destination, with Phases I and II complete and Phase III currently under construction.
Palagyi said the state capital process is highly competitive and noted that local lawmakers recognized the value of investing in projects that benefit Lake County residents for years to come.
State Sen. Jerry Cirino said continued investment in parks helps maintain safe and accessible spaces enjoyed by both residents and visitors.
If finalized, the funding would represent another investment in expanding outdoor recreation opportunities and strengthening public access to Lake County's natural resources.

🚶🏻 Mentor’s Tyler Boulevard Sidewalk Project Is Now Complete

New Sidewalk Opens Along Tyler Boulevard in Mentor
MENTOR, Ohio — A major sidewalk improvement along Mentor's industrial corridor is now complete and open.
The project added more than one mile of concrete sidewalk on the south side of Tyler Boulevard between Heisley Road and Hopkins Road. The new connection is designed to improve safety and accessibility for Laketran riders, employees, and visitors traveling through one of the city's busiest employment areas.
The sidewalk also supports Laketran's Route 8, which launched in 2019 to better serve Mentor's manufacturing district.
Before the project, this stretch of Tyler Boulevard lacked pedestrian infrastructure, leaving some transit riders and workers walking along the roadway berm after exiting buses.
Construction included soil excavation and extensive concrete work within the existing right-of-way, with funding support from Laketran.
Tyler Boulevard connects ten industrial boulevards and more than 300 employers supporting approximately 7,500 jobs, making it one of Ohio's largest manufacturing concentrations.
For the people who rely on this corridor every day, the completed sidewalk provides a safer, more accessible path to work and other destinations.

🚶🏻 The 10-Minute Habit That Could Improve Your Health More Than You Think

Research suggests a short walk after meals may help support blood sugar control, digestion, energy levels, and overall well-being.
When people think about improving their health, they often picture intense workouts, complicated diets, or major lifestyle changes.
But one of the simplest habits may also be one of the most effective: taking a short walk after eating.
A growing body of research suggests that walking for as little as 10 minutes after a meal may help reduce post-meal blood sugar spikes. That's especially important because frequent blood sugar fluctuations over time can affect energy levels and overall health.
A brief stroll may also support digestion, provide a mental reset after a busy day, and help people fit more movement into their routines without setting aside an hour for exercise.
The good news? You don't need special equipment or a gym membership.
A walk around the neighborhood after dinner, a lap through the local park, or even a few trips up and down the driveway can count.
The goal isn't perfection. It's consistency.
Whether you're trying to increase your daily activity, improve your energy, or simply enjoy some fresh air this summer, 10 minutes is a manageable place to start.
Small habits may not feel dramatic in the moment, but practiced regularly, they can add up in meaningful ways.
Want to learn why timing matters and how to make this habit stick? We've got more tips on the website.

⚾ Guardians Fall Again as Chisholm Powers New York to Victory
CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Guardians came up just short Tuesday night as Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s eighth-inning solo home run lifted the New York Yankees to a 3-2 victory at Progressive Field.
The loss was Cleveland's third straight and fifth in its last six games.
After falling behind in the second inning on Spencer Jones' two-run homer — the first of his major league career — the Guardians responded in the third. Chase DeLauter drove in José Ramírez with an RBI single before Angel Martínez followed with a run-scoring hit to tie the game at 2-2.
Cleveland remained even with New York until Chisholm connected on a go-ahead blast off reliever Tim Herrin in the eighth.
Starter Slade Cecconi turned in a solid outing, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven over five innings. The Guardians' bullpen kept the Yankees in check until the late home run proved to be the difference.
The series concludes Wednesday afternoon, with left-hander Parker Messick scheduled to take the mound for Cleveland against Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón.
