🏡 Mentor Officials Push Changes to Bolton Development Plan

This image is not an actual rendering of the proposed Bolton development.
Months of discussions between Mentor officials and developers have resulted in major changes to the proposed Bolton development.
During a work session Monday, city officials reviewed a revised plan that reduces the project to 270 homes, down from the 275-unit proposal previously considered and 30 below the 300 units allowed under the settlement agreement.
The changes came after concerns raised by both the Planning Commission and City Council over lot sizes, rental housing, parking and future access through the development.
Under the updated plan, single-family lots have been enlarged, the number of rental units has been reduced and apartments have been moved to the State Route 615 side of the property instead of bordering the conservation area.
Council members had previously pushed for that arrangement and several said Monday the revisions addressed concerns they had raised over the past several months.
The developer also agreed to additional public road connections to provide emergency access into future phases of the project.
The revised plan includes 59 single-family homes, 124 attached for-sale units and 87 rental units.
The proposal will continue moving through Mentor's review process before any final approvals are considered.

🌞 Overlook Beach Park Reopening Targeted for July 4

Mentor-on-the-Lake residents could soon have full access to Overlook Beach Park again.
City officials are aiming to reopen the park around July 4 as crews finish installing a safety surface around new playground equipment and wrap up other improvements funded through a voter-approved levy and $300,000 in state funding.
The old playground was removed after erosion along the bluff overlooking Lake Erie brought it dangerously close to the edge of the park. Sections near the shoreline had already been fenced off for safety.
Mayor David Eva said the city hopes the upgraded playground and park improvements will be ready in time for Independence Day.
At the same time, officials are waiting for final approval from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources before seeking bids on a separate shoreline stabilization project. The estimated $1.2 million revetment would help protect the bluff and slow further erosion that threatens park property.
State Rep. Troy recently secured an additional $100,000 in state funding for the project. City officials expect that money to be used next year alongside the erosion-control work.
Even after construction begins on the shoreline project, most of the park is expected to remain open.
Read More: Why the city's long-term fight against shoreline erosion may be just as important as the park improvements themselves.

🫐 Are Some Signs of Aging Actually Signs You Need More Water?
Feeling more tired than you used to? Getting headaches, muscle cramps, or that afternoon brain fog?
Many adults chalk those changes up to getting older, poor sleep, or stress. But sometimes the answer may be much simpler.
Mild dehydration is surprisingly common, and it doesn't always make you feel thirsty. In fact, thirst isn't always the first signal your body sends.
Some overlooked clues include headaches, dry mouth, dark yellow urine, trouble concentrating, muscle cramps, and that familiar energy slump that hits in the middle of the day.
The old advice to drink eight glasses of water daily isn't a one-size-fits-all rule. How much fluid you need depends on factors like age, activity level, medications, weather, and overall health.
Fortunately, staying hydrated doesn't require major changes. Drinking water with meals, starting the day with a glass of water, carrying a refillable bottle, and eating fruits and vegetables with high water content can all help.
You don't need to double your water intake overnight.
Just ask yourself one question: Could some of the things I've accepted as "normal" simply be my body asking for a little more water?

⚾ White Sox Edge Guardians 2-1, Move Ahead in AL Central
The Guardians missed a chance to maintain first place in the American League Central on Tuesday night, falling 2-1 to the Chicago White Sox. The loss dropped Cleveland one game behind Chicago after entering the series with a one-game lead.
Rookie left-hander Parker Messick turned in another strong outing, allowing just three hits and two runs over 7⅔ innings while striking out a career-high 10. But Cleveland's offense couldn't provide enough support as the Guardians lost for the fourth time in five games.
Kahlil Watson provided Cleveland's lone run with his first major league home run, a solo shot in the fifth inning. Austin Hedges and Watson each collected two hits as the Guardians out-hit Chicago 6-3.
The difference came in the sixth inning when Miguel Vargas launched his 17th homer of the season off Messick to give the White Sox a 2-1 lead.
Chicago starter Sean Burke held Cleveland to one run over 6⅓ innings before Sean Newcomb closed out the final 2⅔ innings for the save.
The White Sox have now won 22 of their last 26 home games.

⚾ Captains Limited to One Hit in 6-2 Loss to Fort Wayne
The Lake County Captains managed just one hit Tuesday night and dropped a 6-2 decision to the Fort Wayne TinCaps, falling to 1-2 in the Midwest League's second half.
Jace LaViolette provided the lone hit for Lake County, a fourth-inning solo home run that briefly gave the Captains a 2-1 lead.
Starter Jackson Humphries lasted only 1⅔ innings after issuing four walks, forcing the bullpen into extended duty. Jervis Alfaro kept Fort Wayne in check until the sixth inning, when the TinCaps scored four runs to take control.
Despite the offensive struggles, the Captains remained within striking distance until the sixth before Fort Wayne added an insurance run in the seventh.
Lake County opened the second half after posting a strong 38-29 first-half record, but the Captains have now dropped two of their first three games.
The series continues Wednesday morning at Classic Auto Group Park with an 11:05 a.m. first pitch. Kids Camp Day will bring campers and youth groups to Eastlake for a special daytime game.
Read More: Jace LaViolette supplied Lake County's only hit Tuesday night. The website version examines how an early exit by starter Jackson Humphries forced the bullpen into extended duty and how a four-run sixth inning changed the game.
