Hair Dye Fixes the Gray. It Doesn't Fix the Roots

Hair dye solves the gray you can see. It doesn't touch the reason it's happening. That's why the roots come back, the color looks painted, and the routine never ends. It targets the root cause of graying — restoring your natural pigment gradually, from the inside out. Hair and beard. No dye, no smell, no roots giving it away. 🦅 Meet Apollo: Bald Eagle to Visit Mentor Public Library on July 15

Families will have the chance to see a bald eagle up close when Mentor Public Library hosts a free educational program featuring Apollo, a resident bald eagle from Lake Metroparks, at 1 p.m. on July 15.

The event will take place at the library’s Main Branch, located at 8215 Mentor Ave., and is open to children and families of all ages.

Apollo has served as one of Lake Metroparks’ animal ambassadors since arriving at Penitentiary Glen in Kirtland in 2011. As a young eagle, he suffered a severe wing injury during an encounter with an adult bald eagle. After being rescued with the help of a local resident and treated at the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center, Apollo recovered but was left permanently unable to fly.

Although he cannot return to the wild, Apollo now plays an important educational role, helping visitors learn about bald eagles and Ohio’s native wildlife through public programs and demonstrations.

The library program is free, but attendance is limited and advance registration is required. Participants can register online at www.mentorpl.org or by calling 440-255-8811 ext. 3.

🦟 Mosquito Spraying Scheduled in Mentor Beginning June 29

City of Mentor

If you've noticed more mosquitoes lately, Lake County is preparing to respond.

The Lake County General Health District has announced its mosquito treatment schedule for next week, with several neighborhoods in Mentor scheduled for spraying as part of its annual mosquito control program. The treatments are intended to reduce mosquito populations and lower the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses, including West Nile virus.

Here's the current schedule, weather permitting:

  • Monday, June 29: Mentor 1B (eastern portion of Mentor)

  • Tuesday, June 30: Mentor 1A (eastern Mentor), Mentor 2B (western Mentor), Mentor 3A and 3B (southern Mentor)

  • Wednesday, July 1: Mentor-on-the-Lake

Other Lake County communities, including Willoughby, Painesville, Fairport Harbor and Grand River, are also scheduled for treatment during the week.

The Health District notes that spraying may be delayed or canceled if mosquito counts fall below treatment thresholds, winds exceed 15 mph, rain is expected, temperatures fall below 55 degrees, equipment problems occur, or an Air Quality Advisory is in effect.

Residents can check for schedule updates by calling the mosquito hotline at (440) 350-2088.

Looking for something different this week? Dinner Rescue is serving up two simple, budget-friendly dinners that are packed with flavor, easy enough for busy weeknights, and sure to please the whole family. Both meals use everyday ingredients and come together without spending hours in the kitchen.

🍗 Italian Chicken Meatballs with Garlic Bread

These tender baked chicken meatballs are packed with Italian herbs, parmesan cheese, and plenty of flavor, making them a lighter alternative to traditional beef meatballs. Serve them over marinara with a slice of garlic bread or alongside pasta for a comforting dinner that's surprisingly easy to prepare.

Because they're baked instead of fried, cleanup is simple, and leftovers make excellent lunches the next day. Kids love the cheesy, familiar flavors, while parents will appreciate the healthier twist on a classic family favorite.

Easy Garlic Bread: Spread softened garlic butter on sliced Italian bread, sprinkle with parsley and parmesan, then bake at 375°F for about 10 minutes until golden and crispy around the edges.

🫑 Stuffed Bell Pepper Nachos

This fun twist on nachos skips the chips and uses colorful bell pepper halves as the base. Fill them with seasoned ground turkey or beef, black beans, corn, salsa, and melted cheese for a dinner that's crunchy, colorful, and loaded with flavor.

Kids love picking up their own "nacho boats," while parents get a meal with extra vegetables and protein. Serve with a dollop of Greek yogurt or sour cream and fresh avocado slices for a dinner that's both satisfying and fresh.

Quick tip: Arrange halved peppers on a baking sheet, fill with your favorite taco-style ingredients, top with cheese, and bake until the peppers soften and the cheese is bubbly.

⚾ Strong Start by Cantillo Goes Unrewarded, Guardians Lose

The Cleveland Guardians couldn't capitalize on another strong start from Joey Cantillo, falling 3-1 to the Seattle Mariners on Friday night at Progressive Field.

The Guardians grabbed an early lead in the first inning when Kahlil Watson doubled off the left-field wall to score Kyle Manzardo. However, Cleveland's offense was held in check the rest of the way, managing just four hits against Mariners starter Luis Castillo and the Seattle bullpen.

Cantillo turned in one of his best performances of the season despite taking a no-decision. The left-hander struck out nine and allowed only two hits over six innings, with the lone blemish coming on Colt Emerson's solo home run in the third inning that tied the game.

Seattle pulled ahead in the seventh after reliever Tim Herrin issued consecutive walks to begin the inning. J.P. Crawford followed with an RBI single that scored Cal Raleigh, and Julio Rodríguez added an insurance run with an RBI single in the eighth.

The loss dropped Cleveland to 3-7 since All-Star third baseman José Ramírez was sidelined with a fractured left hand on June 13. The Guardians also saw catcher Cooper Ingle make his major league debut, finishing 0 for 2 with a walk.

⚾ Captains Lose to Fort Wayne TinCaps

The Lake County Captains couldn't hold an early lead Friday night, falling 8-4 to the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake.

Lake County jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning when Esteban González drove in Jeffrey Mercedes with a triple before Garrett Howe followed with an RBI single to score González.

Fort Wayne answered with Justin DeCriscio's two-run homer in the third, then took control in the sixth. Kerrington Cross hit a two-run home run before Rosman Verdugo added a solo shot to put the TinCaps ahead 5-2.

Will McCausland (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits over 5⅔ innings. Three of the runs came on home runs. Reliever Melkis Hernández couldn't slow Fort Wayne's offense, which added three more runs over the final three innings.

Jeffrey Mercedes drove in a run with an RBI double in the sixth, and Jace LaViolette added an RBI single in the seventh, but the Captains couldn't get any closer.

Lake County collected 11 hits in the loss and dropped to 2-4 in the Midwest League's second half. The Captains continue their series against Fort Wayne this afternoon in Eastlake, looking to even the series.
