🎵 Hotel California to Headline Mentor's July 4 Celebration Before Historic Fireworks Show
If you're still making plans for Independence Day, Mentor's America250 celebration is shaping up to be one of the community's biggest events of the summer.
Festivities begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 4, with Hotel California – The Original Tribute to The Eagles taking the stage at 8 p.m. The nationally recognized tribute band has spent nearly four decades recreating the Eagles' signature harmonies and classic hits, earning a reputation as one of the country's premier tribute acts.
The evening concludes with what organizers say will be the largest fireworks display in Mentor's history, celebrating America's 250th anniversary.
If you're planning to attend, arrive prepared. There is no permanent seating at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater, so bring a lawn chair or blanket. Food trucks and beverage tents will be available throughout the evening, but coolers are no longer permitted inside the venue.
Whether you're an Eagles fan, looking for a family-friendly Fourth of July outing, or simply don't want to miss Mentor's biggest fireworks show ever, this year's celebration promises an evening of live music, community spirit and a memorable holiday finale.

🍦 Longtime Mentor Dairy Queen Set for Major Grill & Chill Makeover
If you've stopped at the Dairy Queen on Lakeshore Boulevard for a Blizzard or ice cream cone over the years, you could soon notice some big changes.
The Mentor Planning Commission approved plans Wednesday that move forward a major renovation of the longtime restaurant into Dairy Queen's newer Grill & Chill concept. The project includes a redesigned exterior, a second drive-thru lane, a new customer entrance and additional cooler and storage space.
The updated restaurant is expected to offer Dairy Queen's expanded Grill & Chill experience while modernizing one of Mentor's longtime businesses. Commissioners unanimously approved the required permit transfers and architectural review after a brief discussion about rooftop equipment and a canopy color change.
The Planning Commission's action is a significant step forward, but customers shouldn't expect changes overnight. The project must still move through the remaining permitting and construction process before the renovation is complete, and no construction timeline was discussed during the meeting.
Read More: Learn what's changing, what Grill & Chill means, and where the renovation stands before customers will see the finished restaurant.
⚽ New Indoor Sports Complex Moves Closer to Reality in Mentor

After years of watching their three daughters compete at indoor sports facilities across Northeast Ohio, Sergio and Alexis DiFranco kept asking the same question:
Why couldn't there be a cleaner, more modern place where families actually enjoy spending time while their kids practice?
Now they're hoping to build that place in Mentor.
The Mentor Planning Commission voted Wednesday to approve a conditional use permit for Fab Five Fields, a proposed indoor sports complex at 7420 Clover Avenue. The project would transform an existing industrial building into a year-round destination for soccer training, league play and other turf sports.
The De Francos said the facility is designed with families in mind as much as athletes, with plans for comfortable spectator seating, lounge areas, quiet workspaces, upgraded restrooms and glass viewing areas overlooking the fields.
The Planning Commission's approval marks one of the project's biggest milestones, but it doesn't mean the facility will open right away. The owners must still complete additional site planning, obtain building permits and renovate the building before welcoming athletes. No opening date has been announced.
If completed, Fab Five Fields would add another year-round recreation option for Mentor families while giving new life to an existing industrial building.
Read More: Learn why the DiFranco’s chose Mentor, what will make Fab Five Fields different from other indoor sports facilities, and what still needs to happen before the doors can open.

🍽️ Two Easy Summer Dinners Ready in About 30 Minutes
Some evenings, the biggest challenge isn't cooking—it's simply deciding what to make.
This week's Dinner Rescue takes the guesswork out of dinner with two easy meals that are fresh, family-friendly, and perfect for busy summer nights. Both recipes come together in about 30 minutes using simple ingredients you can find at your local grocery store.
First up is Lemon Garlic Chicken & Summer Veggie Skillet, a colorful one-pan meal featuring juicy chicken, zucchini, yellow squash, and sweet cherry tomatoes tossed in a bright lemon garlic butter sauce. It's light enough for warm weather but hearty enough to satisfy everyone around the table. Serve it with microwave rice, buttered noodles, or warm crusty bread for a complete meal.
If pizza night is always a hit at your house, you'll love BBQ Chicken Ranch Flatbread Pizzas. Store-bought naan or flatbread and rotisserie chicken make this dinner incredibly quick to prepare while still delivering smoky barbecue flavor, melted cheese, crispy edges, and a cool ranch drizzle. Pair it with a simple side salad or fresh watermelon, and dinner is ready in no time.
🍽 Dinner Rescue Tip
Keep a rotisserie chicken on your grocery list. One chicken can become several quick meals throughout the week, saving both time and money.
Both complete recipes are available now on the Local Buzz website. Links above. Which recipe would your family choose first?

⚾ Guardians Rally Past White Sox, Move Into Division Lead
The Cleveland Guardians continued their dramatic holiday weekend by earning a second straight walk-off victory, defeating the Chicago White Sox 4-3 in 10 innings Friday night at Progressive Field to move into first place in the American League Central.
Steven Kwan started the 10th on second as the automatic runner, advanced to third on Travis Bazzana’s single, and scored the winning run when rookie Khalil Watson lined a base hit up the middle. Watson, who was promoted from Triple-A Columbus on June 17, collected his first career walk-off hit and now has nine RBIs in 15 games.
The Guardians took an early lead before Chicago answered with a three-run homer by Miguel Vargas in the fifth. The game was then interrupted by a rain delay of nearly two hours.
Cleveland battled back in the seventh, tying the game on RBI singles from Austin Hedges and Kwan.
Reliever Eric Sabrowski pitched a perfect 10th inning to earn the win, while the Guardians’ bullpen has allowed just two hits over 9 1/3 scoreless innings through the first two games of the series.
The four-game series continues Saturday with rookie left-hander Parker Messick starting for Cleveland.

⚾ Captains Stay Within Striking Distance With Win Over West Michigan
The Lake County Captains kept themselves in the hunt in the Midwest League's second-half playoff race Friday night, pulling away late for a 10-3 victory over West Michigan.
The game was close through six innings before Lake County's offense erupted for five runs in the ninth to turn a one-run game into a comfortable win.
Michael Kennedy continued his outstanding season, improving to 8-3 after allowing just two runs on three hits over 5.1 innings. The right-hander struck out six and walked one while lowering the pressure on a bullpen that finished the final 3.2 innings. Izaak Martinez closed the door with two scoreless innings, striking out three to record his fifth save.
Offensively, Aaron Walton delivered the game's biggest swing before the ninth, launching his 15th home run of the season—a three-run shot that briefly gave the Captains breathing room. Anthony Martinez enjoyed a breakout night with his first home run of the year and later added a two-run single during Lake County's decisive ninth inning.
The Captains improved to 6-6 in the second half and remain three games behind first place in the East Division. With every second-half win carrying playoff importance, Lake County will look to build on Friday's momentum when the series continues Saturday in West Michigan.
