🐂 Farmpark’s Free FarmFest Returns July 11
Lake Metroparks Farmpark will host a free day of animals, demonstrations and hands-on farm activities when FarmFest returns Saturday, July 11.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Farmpark, 8800 Euclid Chardon Road in Kirtland. Admission is free for all visitors, making it an easy family outing for July.
FarmFest gives guests a chance to experience the Farmpark in full swing. Visitors can meet animals, explore interactive programs and learn how food, fiber and farming connect to everyday life.
The day will feature groups that regularly call Farmpark home, including antique engine enthusiasts, spinning and weaving artisans and beekeepers. Food trucks will be on site, along with cooking demonstrations from local chef Lisa Pucci Delgado and a breadmaking presentation by Reveille Bakery.
Visitors can also pick up tips on small-space gardening and backyard flock basics with Meyer Hatchery. Raven Hooves Farm will demonstrate how wool becomes yarn.
Farmpark officials say FarmFest is one of the site’s biggest days of the year and the only day guests can visit free. Pets are not permitted.

🦮 Lake County Dog Shelter Relocates Most Dogs After HVAC Issues During Heat Wave
The Lake County Dog Shelter relocated most of its dogs Friday after HVAC problems collided with dangerous summer heat.
According to the shelter, officials were notified June 23 that the facility’s HVAC system needed repairs, and replacement parts were ordered immediately. While waiting for those parts, county staff used fans and portable air conditioners to help manage conditions inside the shelter.
As heat indices climbed into the upper 90s and low triple digits, shelter staff decided to move the majority of the dogs to partner agencies as a precaution.
The shelter said repairs will begin once the needed HVAC parts arrive. In the meantime, kennel staff will continue monitoring the situation.
Dog owners are being asked to contact the shelter before arriving, since some animals may have been temporarily relocated to partner agencies.
The shelter thanked its staff and community partners for helping care for the dogs during the disruption and said it will continue sharing updates as more information becomes available.

🏠 Does a House Have a Life Cycle?
Have you ever noticed that a house seems to change, even when the walls stay exactly where they are?
The kitchen where young children once colored at the table eventually becomes the place where grandchildren bake cookies. A spare bedroom becomes a nursery, then a teenager's room, then a quiet home office. Trees planted in the front yard as saplings grow tall enough to shade the entire house.
The house hasn't changed nearly as much as the life inside it.
That raises an interesting question.
Does a house have a life cycle?
At first, the answer seems obvious. Roofs wear out. Paint fades. Windows are replaced. Homes need repairs and occasional updates.
But that's only part of the story.
Perhaps houses don't simply grow older—they grow alongside the people who live in them.
The best homes aren't frozen in time. They adapt. They welcome growing families, empty nesters, retirees, and eventually another generation that begins the story all over again.
Every family leaves something behind. A garden planted in the backyard. A tree that now towers above the roofline. A remodeled kitchen that made daily life easier. Even the smallest improvements become part of the home's continuing story.
Maybe that's why older homes often feel different.
Not because they're old.
Because they've been lived in.
A house doesn't really have one life.
It has many.
One for every family that has called it home.
👉🏻 Continue reading: The website article explores why every homeowner is really a temporary caretaker, how the most successful homes quietly adapt over generations, and why a house may never truly reach the end of its story.

⚾ White Sox Edge Guardians Late to Reclaim AL Central Lead
The Guardians couldn’t complete a series win Sunday at Progressive Field, falling 7-6 to the Chicago White Sox in a rain-delayed finale that left the AL Central rivals with a four-game split.
Cleveland battled back after trailing 6-3, tying the game in the fifth when Gabriel Arias launched a 446-foot three-run homer, the longest of his career. Chase DeLauter and Kyle Manzardo reached ahead of Arias, aided by a Chicago fielding error.
DeLauter also gave the Guardians an early lift, crushing his first home run since May 17 to tie the game in the first. Travis Bazzana doubled moments earlier after Chicago left fielder Sam Antonacci slipped on the wet grass.
The game’s start was delayed while crews treated the soaked warning track, with umpires and managers inspecting the outfield before play began.
Chicago regained the lead in the sixth against Colin Holderman, pushing across the deciding run on Antonacci’s fielder’s choice after loading the bases with nobody out.
Cleveland had a chance late, but Antonacci tracked down Kahlil Watson’s deep drive in the eighth. Sean Newcomb closed it out for Chicago, which moved back into first place by one game. The Guardians open a three-game series Tuesday at Minnesota with Joey Cantillo scheduled to start.

⚾ Captains Take Series From Whitecaps, Move Ahead in Second-Half Standings
The Lake County Captains left West Michigan with a series win and a stronger position in the second-half standings.
Lake County beat the Whitecaps 6-4 on Sunday, taking four of six games and moving a half-game ahead of West Michigan. The Captains improved to 8-6 in the second half and sit two games behind Great Lakes.
Starter Jervis Alfaro delivered the steady outing Lake County needed, throwing five scoreless innings with four strikeouts, two walks and four hits allowed. The Captains backed him in the third when Nolan Schubart cleared the bases with a three-run double.
Lake County pushed the lead to 5-0 in the sixth on sacrifice flies from Tommy Hawke and Dean Curley. West Michigan answered with three runs in the seventh, but Jace LaViolette added an insurance run with an RBI single in the eighth.
Jogly García finished the ninth for his first save after the Whitecaps scored one final run.
The win gives Lake County momentum heading into a six-game homestand against Lansing starting Tuesday. The Lugnuts enter at 4-11, giving the Captains a chance to build on a strong road series.
