🦟 Mosquito Treatment Scheduled Across Mentor July 21–23

Mosquito treatment is scheduled in four sections of Mentor from Tuesday, July 21, through Thursday, July 23, weather permitting.
The Lake County General Health District’s current schedule is:
Tuesday, July 21: Mentor 1-A in eastern Mentor
Wednesday, July 22: Mentor 1-B in eastern Mentor
Thursday, July 23: Mentor 2-A and Mentor 2-B in western Mentor
Residents who are unsure which treatment area includes their neighborhood can select the route names on the Health District’s mosquito-control webpage to view area maps. The schedule may change daily, so residents should confirm the status of their route before treatment.
Treatment can be delayed or canceled when mosquito counts are below the Health District’s threshold, winds exceed 15 mph, the rain chance reaches 50% or more, temperatures fall below 55 degrees or equipment problems occur. Officials also evaluate conditions on Air Quality Advisory days.
Residents do not need to report outdoors to watch for a truck. Health District drivers have previously been instructed to turn off sprayers when people or pets are outside. Anyone with a specific concern can contact the Health District directly.
For same-day updates, call the 24-hour treatment hotline at 440-350-2088 or 440-918-2088. General questions can be directed to 440-350-2543 or 440-918-2543 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Because weather and mosquito activity can change quickly, residents should check the schedule again on their assigned treatment day.

📉 Mentor Retail Vacancy Rate Falls to 6.7% in Second Quarter
Mentor’s retail vacancy rate declined to 6.7% during the second quarter of 2026, improving from both the previous quarter and the same period last year.
According to CoStar data compiled by the City of Mentor Planning & Development Department, the rate was 0.5 percentage point lower than in the first quarter of 2026 and 0.9 percentage point below the adjusted rate reported for the second quarter of 2025.
Mentor contains approximately 7.6 million square feet of retail space, accounting for about 42% of Lake County’s total retail inventory. That makes the city a major part of the county’s commercial market.
Despite the improvement, Mentor’s vacancy rate remained above the 4.8% rates reported for both Lake County and the broader eight-county Cleveland retail market.
The three largest available spaces identified in the report were 58,739 square feet at 7797–7885 Mentor Ave., 42,500 square feet at 7721–7723 Mentor Ave. and 41,264 square feet at 7960–8000 Plaza Blvd.
The lower vacancy rate is an encouraging sign for Mentor’s business corridors, but the gap between the city and the county average shows that several large properties continue to influence the local market. Filling or redeveloping even one of those spaces could noticeably improve a future quarterly rate.
👉🏻 Read the full story to see why a handful of large vacancies still shape Mentor’s retail market—and what could move the rate next.

🍽️Dinner Rescue: Two Summer Dinners for Comfort-Food and Fresh-Bowl Nights
Some summer evenings call for a creamy bowl of pasta. Others call for something bright, colorful and easy to customize. Today’s Dinner Rescue covers both.
Creamy Tuscan Chicken Pasta
This week’s first dinner combines tender chicken, pasta, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes in a light Parmesan cream sauce. It has the comfort of a restaurant-style pasta without requiring complicated ingredients or an all-evening cooking project.
The pasta cooks separately while the chicken and sauce come together in a skillet, making it a realistic choice for a busy evening. Spinach adds color, and the sun-dried tomatoes bring enough tangy flavor that the sauce does not need to be overly rich.

Honey Lime Shrimp Rice Bowls
For a fresher option, these rice bowls layer honey-lime shrimp with black beans, corn, tomatoes and avocado. Everyone can build a bowl that fits their appetite, which is especially useful when feeding adults and children with different topping preferences.
Using cooked rice or microwaveable rice keeps the meal moving. The shrimp cook in just a few minutes, making this a smart choice for nights when dinner needs to happen quickly.

Dinner Rescue Tip
Cook a larger batch of rice than you need. Refrigerate the extra promptly, then use it later in the week for fried rice, taco bowls or a quick side dish.
Which would disappear faster at your table: the creamy chicken pasta or the honey-lime shrimp bowls?
