Mentor Rocks turns up the funk Tuesday, July 21, when Red Not Chili Peppers performs music from across the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ career.

The free, all-ages concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater, 8600 Munson Road. Food and beverage service begins at 5 p.m., giving concertgoers time to grab dinner and settle in before the show.

Formed in 2009, Red Not Chili Peppers recreates the California band’s distinctive mix of rock, funk and energetic live performance. The tribute act has performed across the United States and internationally, with a song catalog covering multiple eras of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

There is no permanent amphitheater seating, so attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets. Tents and canopies are permitted only at the rear of the grounds to avoid blocking views. Admission and parking are free.

Outside food and nonalcoholic drinks may be brought in by hand. New for the 2026 season, coolers are not permitted. Outside alcohol, glass containers, food deliveries and pets are also prohibited on the main amphitheater grounds.

Dogs housed at the Lake County Dog Shelter will receive additional health, behavioral and enrichment support through an expanded partnership with the Lake Humane Society.

The weekly assistance began July 20, shortly after HVAC problems and extreme heat forced the Perry Township shelter to relocate most of its animals to partner agencies. Those organizations included the Lake Humane Society, Ashtabula Animal Protective League and Geauga County Dog Warden.

Humane society personnel will check animals for visible health concerns and signs of anxiety or stress. They will also evaluate dogs’ behavior and temperament using the ASPCA’s seven-step SAFER assessment.

Other planned services include heartworm testing for dogs that can safely undergo a blood draw, along with help creating a more comfortable shelter environment through enrichment activities and supplies.

Dogs preparing for adoption will also be spayed or neutered by the humane society or other community partners beginning in the coming weeks.

County officials said replacement parts for the shelter’s malfunctioning HVAC system were ordered June 23. Fans and portable air conditioners have been used while repairs are pending.

Officials have not announced when the HVAC work will be completed, when all relocated animals may return or whether shelter operations remain limited.

The Lake County Dog Shelter is located at 2600 North Ridge Road in Perry Township.

Santa is trading snow boots for swim weather when Mentor Recreation hosts Christmas in July at Morton Pool on Saturday, July 25.

The celebration runs from 1 to 8 p.m. and includes festive music, swimming and poolside games every hour. Hot dogs and chips will be provided, and Santa will make a special appearance for popsicles at 4 p.m. Guests are encouraged to add a little holiday spirit to their pool attire.

Admission is free for 2026 pool pass holders. Everyone else can enter for $10 per person at the gate, the same as Morton Pool’s regular daily admission.

The event fills Morton Pool’s regular Saturday hours, allowing families to spend the afternoon swimming while joining the scheduled games and holiday activities. The city has not announced an advance registration requirement or indicated whether food quantities are limited.

The thermostat says 72, but the house still feels sticky. That does not always mean the air conditioner needs to be turned lower.

Temperature and humidity affect comfort in different ways. A cooling system may lower the temperature without removing enough moisture, particularly when it runs in short bursts. Damp basement air, showers, laundry and weak exhaust ventilation can also contribute to uncomfortable rooms.

None of those signs identifies the cause by itself. The useful clue is whether the same condition repeatedly appears in the same room or after the same activity.

Before buying equipment or scheduling a repair, create a simple humidity map of your home.

Compare the basement with the main floor. Check bathrooms after showers, the laundry area while appliances are running and closets along exterior walls. Note whether conditions change after heavy rain.

Condensation on a window, pipe or air-conditioning duct is another clue. It forms when humid air meets a colder surface, but recurring moisture should not be ignored.

An inexpensive digital hygrometer can make the pattern easier to see. Record readings in two or three rooms in the morning, late afternoon, after showers or laundry, and following rainfall.

The Guardians delivered a historic power surge Monday night, hitting seven home runs in a 13-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Petey Halpin and Rhys Hoskins homered twice each, while Bryan Rocchio, Travis Bazzana and Patrick Bailey also went deep. The seven home runs matched Cleveland’s franchise record for a home game.

Halpin entered the night batting .194 and recorded the first two home runs of his major league career. Hoskins, who came in hitting .177, added solo shots in the first and third innings.

Rocchio opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first. Bazzana followed with a second-inning blast, his second home run in three games.

Minnesota starter Joe Ryan allowed six home runs, the most ever surrendered by a Twins pitcher in one game. He gave up eight runs and 10 hits over four innings.
