Hundreds of classic cars, sports cars, street racers and vintage RVs are expected at the Mentor Civic Center Complex when the Mentor Cruise-In returns Saturday, Aug. 8.

The 2026 Mutsko Insurance Services Mentor Cruise-In will be open to spectators from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission and parking are free.

First held in 2002, Mentor’s annual car cruise attracts as many as 800 vehicles and approximately 2,500 spectators, according to event information. All types of vehicles are welcome.

Cruiser registration runs from 8 to 10 a.m. Vehicles will not be admitted to the event grounds before 8 a.m. Cruiser parking will be available on-site, while spectator parking is listed at the Mentor Senior Center and Mentor High School.

Awards will be presented in several categories, including best of show. Registered participants will also have opportunities to win door prizes. Visitors may spin a prize wheel at the registration area, and official event shirts and hats will be available for purchase. Dogs, alcohol, rollerblades and bicycles are not permitted.

Visitors planning a summer trip to the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve should note a temporary closure beginning Tuesday, July 28.

The main trail at the preserve will be closed through Sunday, August 16, 2026, while crews assemble a new 95-foot observation tower overlooking Mentor Marsh. The City of Mentor said it will post updates if the schedule changes.

The closure applies to the main trail. Visitors should check the city’s latest notices and follow signs posted at the preserve before heading out during the construction period.

The project was approved by Mentor voters in May 2025. Plans include a 25-by-25-foot upper deck offering panoramic views of Mentor Marsh, the surrounding uplands and Lake Erie, along with an ADA-accessible elevated platform.

Mentor Lagoons has more than three miles of trails passing the marina, marsh, upland forest and Lake Erie shoreline. The preserve’s trails are normally open from dawn to dusk.

A new group fitness studio offering mat Pilates, yoga and stationary cycling classes is moving forward at 7480 Mentor Avenue.

The Mentor Planning Commission approved the required recreational-use permit July 23. The property owner described the building as a former Advance Auto Parts location that previously housed Blockbuster and said plans are being developed to freshen up the property.

Nearby Dartmore Road residents did not oppose the studio but raised concerns about illegal dumping, an existing dumpster and the condition of a buffer fence behind the commercial property. In a related vote, the commission required the dumpster to be relocated in coordination with the city.

The approval is one step in the development process. Additional building plans, permits, property improvements and inspections may still be required before the studio can open. A business name and opening date were not announced at the meeting.

Sunday’s game ended quickly, but Cleveland’s offense disappeared.

Steven Kwan led off with a double, Cleveland’s only hit. Rays starter Drew Rasmussen retired 21 of the next 23 batters and struck out nine in seven innings.

Starter Harrison Bodendorf allowed three runs on four hits in four innings. Michael Kennedy took the loss after allowing four runs on five hits over three innings.
