I'm 63 With $1.5M. Can I Spend $10K a Month?

You’ve saved $1.5 million. Now comes the real test.

Can it produce $10,000 a month, or will that pace drain your portfolio?

Most retirees do not get a clear answer until it is too late.

The issue is not just how much you have. It is whether your portfolio was built to pay you, not just grow.

That difference can determine whether your money lasts decades or starts breaking down early.

Sequence of returns, taxes on withdrawals, healthcare costs, and whether the 4% rule still applies all play a role.

Fiduciary advisors created a breakdown showing what drives sustainable income and why the same $1.5M can produce very different outcomes.

If you have $1M or more invested, do not guess.

🍂 Mentor’s Fall 2026 Recreation Guide Is Now Available

Mentor residents can begin planning their fall activities with the release of the city’s Fall 2026 Recreation Program Guide.

Printed copies are expected to arrive in local mailboxes soon, but the complete guide is already available online. It includes upcoming recreation classes, programs and activities offered through the City of Mentor.

Registration opens Monday, Aug. 3, for Mentor residents and recreation members. Non-residents and non-members may begin registering Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Popular programs can fill quickly, so families and participants interested in a particular class may want to review the guide before registration begins. Readers should check individual listings for program dates, age requirements, fees, locations and any additional registration details.

The city’s announcement refers to registration for “summer programs,” although the newly released guide covers fall 2026. Residents may want to confirm the applicable season when registering.

📰 UPDATE: Mentor Lagoons Main Trail Closure Delayed Until July 31

The main trail at Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve will remain open a few days longer than originally announced.

The City of Mentor now says the trail will close Friday, July 31, through Sunday, August 16, 2026, while crews assemble a new 95-foot observation tower overlooking Mentor Marsh.

The closure had originally been scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 28. City officials updated the announcement to reflect a change in the construction schedule but did not provide additional details about why the start date was moved.

Visitors should plan to avoid the main trail during the closure period and watch for posted restrictions near the work area.

The observation tower is expected to provide elevated views of Mentor Marsh and the surrounding natural area once construction is complete.

🌿 LIVE BETTER: Your Day Needs an Ending, Not Just a Bedtime

A simple four-part evening reset can help create a clearer transition between the day’s responsibilities and the time you have set aside for rest.

Most evenings do not end. They simply run out of time.

One more message becomes one more video, one more chore or one more worry carried into bed. Then we expect the mind to become quiet because the lights are off.

A useful bedtime routine creates a bridge between responsibility and rest. It does not need to be elaborate. It needs to be recognizable.

Try this four-part evening reset:

Close. Decide when work, news and routine messages are finished for the night. You are not required to solve tomorrow before going to bed.

Prepare. Write down what you need to remember and set out one or two morning essentials. Giving unfinished tasks a place to wait can make the evening feel less crowded.

Dim. Lower bright lights and reduce the screens, sounds and notifications competing for your attention. This is not an all-or-nothing technology rule. Even a short, quieter window can create a clearer ending to the day.

Settle. Repeat one calming activity: read a few pages, listen to quiet music, take a warm shower, practice slow breathing or do a few gentle stretches.

Your routine may last 10 minutes or 30. It may begin at a different time on weekends. A parent, caregiver, shift worker and retiree will not follow the same schedule. Consistency means returning to a familiar pattern—not performing it perfectly.

A bedtime routine cannot guarantee sleep or treat an ongoing sleep problem. Its value is simpler: It can make rest feel less abrupt and the evening less reactive.

This week, choose the easiest step in the reset. Close, prepare, dim or settle. Practice that one step for seven nights before adding anything else. Notice what changes.

👉🏻 The complete evening reset goes beyond turning off a screen—discover how to close the day, prepare for tomorrow and build a routine that works for your actual schedule. Build Your Evening Reset

⚾ Guardians Split Doubleheader With Reds as Offense Stalls in Nightcap

The Cleveland Guardians ended a five-game losing streak Tuesday, but they could not complete a doubleheader sweep in Cincinnati.

Cleveland won the opener 6-5 behind a grand slam from Kyle Manzardo and a key eighth-inning sacrifice bunt that allowed Chase DeLauter to score the go-ahead run. The victory gave the Guardians a much-needed lift after their recent skid.

The nightcap told a different story.

Gavin Williams struck out 12 and continued his dominant run, but Cleveland’s offense was shut out in a 2-0 loss. Williams has now recorded at least 10 strikeouts in four straight starts, matching a Cleveland streak last achieved by Shane Bieber in 2021. Over those four outings, Williams has 45 strikeouts and only two walks in 27 innings.

Cincinnati scored on JJ Bleday’s first-inning solo homer and a fifth-inning wild pitch that brought Dane Myers home.

The Guardians had one final chance in the ninth, but Myers made a leaping catch at the center-field wall on Petey Halpin’s drive to end the game.

Cleveland has now been shut out nine times this season, including three times in its past four games.

The series concludes Wednesday with Joey Cantillo scheduled to start for the Guardians against Brady Singer.

⚾ Three Home Runs Lift Captains Past South Bend, 7-5

The Lake County Captains powered their way back into the win column Tuesday, hitting three home runs in a 7-5 victory over the South Bend Cubs.

Welbyn Francisca gave Lake County an immediate advantage with a three-run homer in the first inning, scoring Jonah Advincula and Anthony Martinez. Juneiker Caceres added his first home run of the season in the third before Esteban González connected for a two-run shot in the fourth.

The three homers accounted for six of Lake County’s seven runs.

South Bend cut a 6-2 deficit to two runs in the fifth, but the Captains answered with an important insurance run in the sixth. González scored on Juan Benjamin’s sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7-4.

Lake County starter Jacob Zibin improved to 2-2 after allowing four runs, two earned, over five innings. He struck out six. The bullpen allowed only one run over the final four innings, with Logan McGuire pitching a scoreless ninth for his third save.

The win improved Lake County’s second-half record to 16-13 and moved the Captains within 1.5 games of first place.

👉🏻 See how three early swings, one insurance run and four steady bullpen innings kept Lake County moving forward in a tightening second-half race.
