CityFest runs 5â11 p.m. Friday and noonâ11 p.m. Saturday at Mentor Civic Center Park, 8600 Munson Road. Admission and parking are free. The City of Mentor says wristbands will be required for bounce houses and some activities, but no wristband is needed simply to enter the festival.
Friday offers an easy evening at CityFest. Food vendors, inflatables, carnival games and the Main Street Tent open at 5 p.m., while the Cincinnati Circus Thrill Show performs three times throughout the evening. Local singer-songwriter Diana Chittester takes the amphitheater stage at 6:30 p.m., followed by Just Like Pink, a P!NK tribute, from 8â10 p.m.
Saturday is the bigger, full-day experience. The CityFest Parade steps off from Shore Middle School at 10 a.m., two hours before the festival officially opens. đď¸ Impaired-Driving Campaign Begins Aug. 19 as Lake County Fatal Crashes Raise Concern
Lake County's annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign begins Aug. 19, with local officials pointing to concerning crash numbers as the Labor Day travel period approaches.
The Lake County Safe Communities Coalition launched its local awareness effort Aug. 8 during the Mentor Cruise-In at the Mentor Civic Center Complex.
Nearly half of Lake County's seven fatal traffic crashes reported so far in 2026 involved someone operating a vehicle under the influence, according to the coalition. Since 2024, more than 53% of the county's fatal crashes have involved an impaired driver, while 10% of all Lake County crashes during that period involved alcohol, drugs or another form of substance use.
The national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign runs Aug. 19 through Sept. 9.
For residents, the message is practical: decide how you're getting home before drinking or using any substance that could impair driving. Officials recommend choosing a sober driver or ride service and helping friends make safe arrangements rather than allowing them to drive impaired.
Anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver on the road should contact local law enforcement.
đđť Why are Lake County officials putting so much emphasis on the campaign? Keep reading for a closer look at the local crash numbers, how impairment affects driving and the steps residents can take to help keep local roads safer.
đł Mentor Tree Commission Meets Wednesday â Hereâs What It Does

Mentorâs Tree Commission will meet Wednesday, August 12, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Mentor Municipal Center, 8500 Civic Center Blvd. The meeting, held in the First Floor Conference Room, is open to the public.
The four-member commission establishes and administers Mentorâs Master Street Tree Plan. Members are appointed by City Council to four-year terms, and the commission normally meets on the second Wednesday of each month.
That work fits into Mentorâs broader approach to its public trees. The city operates a Street Tree Program that offers trees to residents at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis. City personnel install approved trees in the public right-of-way, and property owners become responsible for their care and maintenance afterward.
Mentor also has a long history with the Arbor Day Foundationâs Tree City USA program. In 2022, the city marked its 34th year of Tree City USA recognition and also received a Growth Award for increased tree care and community engagement.
The cityâs calendar does not list specific topics for Wednesdayâs meeting, so the Street Tree Program and Tree City USA history should be viewed as background â not as scheduled agenda items.
Residents with questions about the meeting or public participation can contact the Public Works Department at (440) 974-5781.
đđť But Mentorâs tree program reaches beyond a monthly commission meeting. On our website, we explain how the free street-tree program works, what homeowners are responsible for, and why trees planted along the street come with some rules residents may not realize exist.

đż LIVE BETTER: The Rest That Doesnât Actually Help You Recover
Stopping for the day and feeling restored are not always the same thing. The kind of rest that helps most may depend on what has been using your energy.
Sometimes we stop moving without actually feeling restored.
We sit down after a long day, turn on a show, scroll through a feed or catch up on messages. None of those choices is inherently a problem. They can be enjoyable, familiar and exactly what we want.
But rest is not only about stopping. It is also about recovering from the kind of demand the day placed on us.
If your body has been working hard, stillness may feel wonderful. If your mind has spent hours solving problems or making decisions, more input may leave you feeling just as mentally crowded. After a day filled with conversation, you may want quiet. After hours of screens, noise and constant stimulation, even passive entertainment can sometimes feel like more of the same.
A useful question is: What kind of energy did today use most?
Mental energy may respond well to fewer choices and less information. Physical fatigue may call for sitting down, stretching gently, a warm shower or an earlier bedtime. Social fatigue may ease with time alone or quiet company. Sensory fatigue may feel better with softer light, less noise or a few minutes away from screens.
You do not have to diagnose yourself or build a perfect recovery routine.
Instead, try the afterward test: How do you feel when the break is over?
Calmer? Clearer? Less tense? More comfortable? Then that form of rest may be helping.
Still restless, distracted or depleted? Try something different next time.
It can help to keep a short personal list of restorative optionsânot rules, just reliable choices.
Some evenings, television may be exactly what you need. Other nights, silence may work better.
The goal is not to rest perfectly. It is to notice what the day usedâand choose something that gives a little of it back.
đđť If your downtime sometimes ends with you wondering why you still feel drained, the next step may be figuring out which kind of energy needs a break. See the full article here.

âž Guardiansâ Comeback Falls Short in 6-4 Loss to Tigers
The Guardians finally stumbled against Detroit on Tuesday night, falling 6-4 to the Tigers after winning the first six meetings between the AL Central rivals this season.
Cleveland still made things interesting late, but the loss allowed Detroit to move 1½ games ahead of the Guardians in the division.
Chase DeLauter continued his strong season, going 3-for-5 and launching his 13th home run. His 424-foot shot in the third inning tied the game at 1-1.
Detroit took control in the fifth. Kevin McGonigle delivered a two-run double and Gleyber Torres added an RBI single to put the Tigers ahead 4-1.

âž Captains Rally Past Dayton 8-4 for Second Straight Win
The Lake County Captains overcame a pair of early Dayton home runs Tuesday, scoring six times in the second inning on the way to an 8-4 victory over the Dragons in Eastlake.
Dayton took a 3-1 lead through the top of the second, but Lake County quickly flipped the game. Dauri Fernandez cleared the bases with a three-run triple, and Welbyn Francisca followed with a two-run homer â his 14th of the season. Luis De La Cruz added an RBI single in the inning and an RBI double in the fourth.
Francisca's homer continued a torrid stretch. He was named Midwest League Player of the Week on Monday after hitting four homers in his final three games against Lansing. De La Cruz has also started fast since joining Lake County, entering the Dayton series on a 12-game hitting streak between Lake County and Single-A Hill City.
Starter Nelson Keljo allowed three runs on four hits and four walks over four innings, striking out three. Lake County's bullpen held Dayton to one additional run.
The Captains improved to 19-22 in the second half and have won two straight. They remain five games behind Great Lakes in the Midwest League East second-half standings, making every chance to build momentum increasingly important.
The series continues Wednesday at Classic Auto Group Park with Senior Day / Ditch Work Day.
See why this two-game winning streak matters in the Midwest League East race â and which young Captains hitters are helping Lake County build momentum.
