๐ CityFest Saturday: Parade, Family Activities, Live Music and Fireworks Today

Mentor CityFest wraps up today with a full Saturday lineup, beginning with the CityFest Parade at 10 a.m. and ending with fireworks at 10 p.m. at Civic Center Park.
The parade steps off from Shore Middle School and travels along Hopkins Road, Center Street and Civic Center Boulevard toward the festival grounds.
CityFest itself runs noon to 11 p.m., with inflatables, games, food vendors and other family activities throughout the afternoon and evening. The Color Dash & Walk begins at 4 p.m., adding another active option for families and participants.
As evening approaches, the focus shifts to entertainment. The Fest Money Trivia Game starts at 7 p.m., followed by 7 Summers, a Morgan Wallen tribute band, from 8 to 10 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled immediately afterward at 10 p.m.
Admission and festival parking are free. Some inflatables and activities require a wristband purchased at the event.
CityFest is held at Mentor Civic Center Park, 8600 Munson Road.

๐ต 7 Summers Brings Morgan Wallen Tribute to CityFest Tonight
Country music takes center stage tonight as 7 Summers, a Morgan Wallen tribute band, performs from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater.
The concert is part of the Mentor Rocks summer series, but this weekโs performance comes with a change from the usual schedule: it is being held on Saturday as part of Mentor CityFest.
7 Summers takes a music-first approach to the tribute format. Rather than trying to copy Morgan Wallenโs appearance, the group says its focus is on performing his songs and capturing the sound and emotion behind the music.
Admission and parking are free, and the amphitheater uses lawn seating, so concertgoers should bring a chair or blanket.
The concert begins at 8 p.m. tonight, August 15, at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater. Fireworks are scheduled to follow at 10 p.m. as part of the CityFest evening.

๐ฐ Lake County Dog Warden Placed on Administrative Leave
Lake County Chief Dog Warden Rodney Shelton has been placed on paid administrative leave as county officials review operations at the Lake County Dog Shelter, according to Cleveland 19 News.
Lake County Commissioner Morris Beverage III told the station that Shelton was placed on leave Aug. 3 during an operational review. Beverage said a separate issue later surfaced that was unrelated to that review. He also said Shelton is on paid medical leave through Oct. 1 and plans to retire after that date.
The personnel change comes after weeks of scrutiny surrounding conditions at the shelter. Cleveland 19 previously reported that dogs were temporarily relocated in July while the county addressed HVAC problems and residents raised concerns about temperatures inside the facility.
The station also reported allegations from former shelter employee Kristen McFadden involving medical care, euthanasia practices and other shelter policies. Those allegations are McFaddenโs account and have not been independently verified by Local Buzz.
Beverage told Cleveland 19 that county commissioners and the county administrator expect to become more involved in shelter operations, policies and procedures moving forward.

๐ฝ๏ธ Dinner Rescue: One Dinner, Built Everyoneโs Way
Two flexible dinners use one shared base and a short list of toppings, giving everyone choices without giving the cook four different meals to make.
Some nights, the hardest part of dinner is not deciding what to cook. It is figuring out how to make one meal work for people who all want something slightly different.
That is where build-your-own dinners earn their place.
This weekโs Dinner Rescue starts with one shared base, then gives everyone a little room to make the meal their own. Sheet-Pan Chicken Fajita Bowls keep the main work on one pan: seasoned chicken, peppers and onions roast together until the vegetables soften and brown at the edges, while rice or another simple grain gives everyone the same starting point. Set out just a few toppingsโperhaps shredded cheese, salsa, sour cream and chopped lettuceโand let each person finish a bowl the way they like it.
Loaded Cheeseburger Baked Potatoes use the same idea in a completely different way. Bake the potatoes, cook one batch of seasoned ground beef, and offer a short lineup of familiar additions such as melted cheese, diced pickles, chopped tomato or a simple burger sauce. The meal feels customizable without turning the counter into a restaurant topping bar.
The key is restraint. Choose one base, one main protein and three or four extras that can do more than one job. Shredded cheese, chopped lettuce, tomatoes and onions can appear with either dinner and can also roll into lunches, salads, wraps or tacos later in the week.
You can prep many of those pieces ahead, too. Chop vegetables, shred cheese, mix a sauce and cook rice in advance. Then dinner becomes mostly heating, roasting and assembling, with fewer last-minute decisions at the stove.
The goal is not to make separate meals. It is to give everyone enough choice inside one meal that dinner feels personal without creating more work for the cook.

โพ Guardians Let Early Lead Slip in 7-5 Loss to Padres
The Guardians built an early lead Friday night, but San Diego erased it quickly and handed Cleveland a 7-5 loss at Progressive Field.
Cleveland jumped ahead 3-0 behind a strong start from Nathaniel Lowe. The first baseman hit his 14th home run in the second inning, then added an RBI single in the third. Brayan Rocchio also homered in the third to help the Guardians take control early.
The game turned in the middle innings.
Xander Bogaerts hit a two-run homer in the fourth to pull San Diego within one, and Fernando Tatis Jr. tied the game with a solo shot on the first pitch of the fifth. Later in the inning, Luis Campusano doubled off the right-center-field wall with the bases loaded, driving in two and putting the Padres ahead 5-3.
Cleveland starter Gavin Williams allowed five runs over 4 1/3 innings and fell to 11-7.
The loss continued a difficult stretch for the Guardians, who have dropped five of their last six games and are 8-18 since the All-Star break.
Cleveland will look to respond Saturday with left-hander Joey Cantillo scheduled to start. He enters the game 8-7 with a 3.91 ERA.

โพ Captains Break Late Tie With 4-Run Eighth in 5-1 Win
The Lake County Captains turned a tight game into a 5-1 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Friday night, scoring four times in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Lake County starter Jacob Zibin gave the Captains six strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven. Xavier Martinez followed with two scoreless innings of relief and earned the win.
The Captains took a 1-0 lead in the first when Riley Nelson singled home Welbyn Francisca. Dayton tied the game in the fourth on Justin Lebron's solo home run.
It stayed 1-1 until Lake County's offense broke through in the eighth.
Garrett Howe delivered the biggest swing, hitting a two-run homer โ his third of the season โ to put the Captains ahead 3-1. Anthony Martinez followed with an RBI double, and Jeffrey Mercedes added an RBI single to complete the four-run inning.
The victory moved Lake County to 22-23 in the second half, leaving the Captains 4.5 games out of first place.
With the second-half race still in reach, games like this become increasingly important as Lake County tries to make up ground.
