I'm 63 With $1.5M. Can I Spend $10K a Month?
You’ve saved $1.5 million. Now comes the real test.
Can it produce $10,000 a month, or will that pace drain your portfolio?
Most retirees do not get a clear answer until it is too late.
The issue is not just how much you have. It is whether your portfolio was built to pay you, not just grow.
That difference can determine whether your money lasts decades or starts breaking down early.
Sequence of returns, taxes on withdrawals, healthcare costs, and whether the 4% rule still applies all play a role.
Fiduciary advisors created a breakdown showing what drives sustainable income and why the same $1.5M can produce very different outcomes.
If you have $1M or more invested, do not guess.

🏫 Back to School Begins Today in Mentor
School is back this week, and Mentor-area roads are about to get busier in the mornings.
Mentor Public Schools students begin the 2026-27 school year Monday, Aug. 17. Lake Catholic High School follows Thursday, Aug. 20, while Mentor Christian School students return Wednesday, Aug. 26.
That staggered schedule means school buses, students at bus stops and heavier drop-off traffic will gradually return across the community over the next week and a half.
Even if you don’t have a student heading back to class, it’s a good time to reset the morning routine.
Leave a few minutes earlier for work. Watch closely for children walking or biking near neighborhood streets. Expect buses to make frequent stops, and give them plenty of room. Slow down around schools and keep an eye out for crossing guards and changing traffic patterns.
Ohio drivers also need to stop at least 10 feet from a school bus that has stopped to pick up or drop off students and remain stopped until the bus moves again or the driver signals traffic to proceed. There is an exception for traffic approaching from the opposite direction on highways with four or more lanes.
The first few mornings can take a little extra patience. A few added minutes and a little more attention can make the return to school safer for everyone.
👉🏻 Want a refresher before Monday morning? We’ve put together the local school-start timeline, Ohio’s school-bus stopping rules and a practical first-week driving guide on the Local Buzz website.
🦟 Mentor Mosquito Treatment Scheduled Across City Tuesday
Mosquito treatment is scheduled across both eastern and western Mentor on Tuesday, Aug. 18, according to the latest Lake County General Health District schedule.
The treatment includes Mentor 1A and 1B on the eastern side of the city and Mentor 2A and 2B on the western side, putting all four listed Mentor treatment zones on Tuesday’s schedule.
The Health District conducts mosquito treatment to reduce mosquito populations and help limit the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses. Treatment areas are selected using mosquito trap counts, resident complaints and past mosquito activity.
Tuesday’s treatment is weather permitting and could change during the day. Spraying may be delayed or canceled if winds exceed 15 mph, rain chances reach 50% or more, temperatures fall below 55 degrees, mosquito counts remain below treatment thresholds or mechanical problems occur. The district also evaluates conditions on Air Quality Advisory days.
Mentor-on-the-Lake is scheduled for treatment Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Residents can confirm the latest schedule through the Health District’s mosquito-control page or its 24-hour hotline at 440-350-2088 or 440-918-2088.
👉🏻 Before Tuesday’s treatment, see the full list of cancellation conditions, how the Health District decides where to spray and the best ways to confirm whether your area remains on schedule.
📰 Mentor Police Keep Softball Trophy in Battle of Mentor
Mentor Police will keep the Battle of Mentor championship trophy — and bragging rights — for another year after two wins in the annual softball competition.
Police opened with a 12–5 victory over Public Works before edging Mentor Fire, 10–9, in the championship game at Mentor High School.
The event brings city departments together in a setting far different from their usual work. The competition helps build unity and camaraderie while giving employees a chance to have some fun.
Public Works Director Lorne Vernon said his department has participated for seven years and looks forward to the tournament each year. Public Works also earned a 14–13 win over Fire during this year’s competition.

🏠 THE REAL ESTATE QUESTION: Can a Home Be Too Perfect to Feel Comfortable?
Beautiful rooms can bring real pleasure. But when preserving the look begins to shape how everyone behaves, good design can quietly become another household rule.
A beautifully designed home can be a pleasure to walk into. The finishes coordinate. The furniture feels intentional. Nothing seems out of place.
But sometimes the same room that looks impressive can make people strangely careful.
A guest hesitates before setting down a glass. A child is reminded not to touch the sofa. The dog is redirected from the rug. Mail, shoes and backpacks are quickly moved before anyone arrives. Instead of supporting daily life, the room begins asking daily life to behave.
That does not mean thoughtful design is the problem. Durable materials, good storage and well-planned rooms can make a home easier to enjoy. A formal dining room may make celebrations feel special. Beautiful finishes can bring real satisfaction. Caring for a home can also be part of taking pride in it.
The tension appears when preserving the look becomes more important than using the space naturally.
One useful question is: What does this room allow?
Can people eat there without worrying about every spill? Can friends relax without asking where they are permitted to sit? Can pets and children move through the home without creating constant anxiety? Can ordinary clutter appear for a few hours without making the house feel as though something has gone wrong?
Comfort is not the absence of beauty. It is the absence of unnecessary caution.
A home does not have to look lived-in all the time. Many people genuinely enjoy order, calm and carefully chosen surroundings. But the most successful design may be the kind that can absorb real life—meals, visitors, muddy shoes, projects, pets and unfinished days—without making the people inside feel like they are disturbing the picture.
A beautiful home can invite admiration.
A comfortable home invites participation.
👉🏻 The difference between a beautiful room and a comfortable one may become clearer when we stop asking how a home looks and start noticing what people feel free to do inside it. Read More here.

⚾ Guardians Shut Out as Padres Power Their Way to Win
The Guardians’ struggles continued Sunday as San Diego used four home runs to hand Cleveland a 5-0 loss at Progressive Field.
Tanner Bibee retired the first five Padres before Luis Rengifo and Gavin Sheets hit back-to-back homers in the second inning. Bibee allowed three runs over six innings, but Cleveland’s offense provided little support.
José Ramírez collected two of the Guardians’ three hits. Cleveland did not record another hit after the fourth inning against Casey Mize and the Padres bullpen.
Jase Bowen added a homer in the eighth after making two diving catches in the field, and Jake Cronenworth went deep in the ninth.
The loss gave San Diego two wins in the three-game series and dropped Cleveland to 4-11 since July 31.
The Guardians return Tuesday against San Francisco, with Foster Griffin scheduled to start.
*The Lake County Captains’ scheduled series finale against the Dayton Dragons was canceled Sunday because of impending severe weather. The game will not be rescheduled because the teams do not meet again during the 2026 regular season.

When buyers walk through a home during a showing, which detail is most likely to make them wonder whether the property has larger maintenance problems?
🐝 Buzz Fact: Home showings have a funny way of turning perfectly normal adults into amateur detectives. Suddenly everyone is opening closets, checking corners and staring at ceilings like they’ve been hired by a very suspicious insurance company.
