A major resurfacing project along Mentor Avenue is scheduled to begin today, Monday, August 24, and drivers should expect construction activity and possible delays in the weeks ahead.

Work will cover Mentor Avenue from about 500 feet west of Hopkins Road to the Painesville Township line. Most construction is scheduled overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., helping limit disruptions during the busiest daytime hours.

One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction throughout construction. Drivers should use caution through the work zone and allow extra travel time, particularly when overnight work is underway.

The project is expected to continue through the end of October, weather permitting. Message boards along Mentor Avenue will provide updates when traffic patterns change.

This is the first phase of a two-part resurfacing project. The remaining section of Mentor Avenue west to the Willoughby line is planned for 2027, pending state budget approval.

Mentor-on-the-Lake’s ninth annual Fall Festival returns Saturday, Sept. 12, bringing six hours of food, entertainment and family activities to the City Hall grounds. The free event runs from 1 to 7 p.m. at 5860 Andrews Road. Admission and parking are free.

The afternoon includes Outback Ray’s Amazing Animal Show from 2 to 3 p.m., pony rides from 2 to 4 p.m. and the TADA Magic Show at 3 p.m. Follow the Sun takes the stage for live music at 4 p.m.

Families can also enjoy bounce houses, local vendors, an adult beverage tent and food throughout the day.

Four featured food trucks are scheduled: Cousins Maine Lobster, Chef T’s BBQ, Shafer’s Little Blue Trailer and Vivander Cookie Mobile. Their menus include everything from lobster rolls and barbecue to hot dogs, fries, cookies and other treats.

Mentor Schools is set to receive about $125,339 as Lake County returns $750,000 in excess real estate assessment funds to local schools, municipalities and other taxing authorities.

According to Cleveland.com, the payments were divided based on each taxing entity’s share of property-tax collections over the previous six years. Willoughby-Eastlake Schools will receive about $141,591, while Mentor Schools will receive approximately $125,339.

Lake County Auditor Christopher Galloway said the county determined it could return the money while still keeping enough in the fund to cover required property assessment work.

So far, neither the county records reviewed by Local Buzz nor the Cleveland.com report specify how Mentor Schools plans to use the money.

A bigger lot, taller fence or greater distance from neighbors can create welcome calm. But the privacy we value most may be less about separation itself and more about choosing when and how we connect.

Privacy is one of those home features that sounds simple until we try to define what we actually want.

The Guardians completed a three-game sweep of the Rockies on Sunday, winning 7-2 in Denver and keeping pace in the American League wild-card race.

Chase DeLauter led Cleveland with three hits, including two triples, and drove in two runs. Jo Adell added two RBI, giving him 17 in his first 17 games since joining the Guardians.
