⚾ Guardians Crush Orioles 10-3 with Home Run Barrage
The Cleveland Guardians powered past the Baltimore Orioles 10-3 on Thursday night, with home runs playing a key role in the matchup between two American League division leaders. David Fry's three-run homer and José Ramírez's two-run shot set the tone, while Bo Naylor's three-run blast sealed the victory.
The Guardians dominated in home runs, outpacing the Orioles, who lead the majors with 172 homers. Fry's third-inning homer off Trevor Rogers marked his ninth of the season, contributing to a 5-1 lead. Ramírez hit his 28th homer in the seventh, marking his third consecutive game with a home run, and Naylor's eighth homer of the season capped a five-run seventh inning.
Ben Lively earned his 10th win, allowing two runs and four hits over six innings. He's the first Guardians pitcher since Shane Bieber in 2018 to reach 10 wins in his first 19 games with the club.
Lane Thomas, newly acquired from Washington, made an immediate impact with two doubles, extending his on-base streak to 27 games. Anthony Santander hit his 32nd homer for Baltimore, who managed only five hits in the game.
The Orioles' Trevor Rogers, acquired from Miami, allowed five runs and six hits over 4 1/3 innings. Gunnar Henderson's double brought in Colton Cowser to give the Orioles an early 1-0 lead, but it was quickly overtaken by the Guardians' offensive onslaught.
Looking ahead, Guardians' right-hander Tanner Bibee will have his next start delayed due to shoulder tightness. Rookie Joey Cantillo will start in his place against Baltimore's Zach Eflin.
