🎄 Lake County Christmas Lights Contest Returns for the Holiday Season

🦌 Ohio Drivers Warned of Increased Deer Activity on Roads This Fall
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging Ohio drivers to stay vigilant for deer on the roads as deer-related crashes tend to rise during fall and early winter. Since 2019, there have been over 109,500 crashes involving deer across the state, with the majority resulting in property damage. However, 44 of these incidents were fatal, resulting in 45 deaths.
Data shows that nearly half of all deer-involved crashes over the past five years have occurred in October, November, and December, with November alone accounting for 22%. The counties with the highest number of crashes involving deer include Stark, Richland, Hancock, and Defiance, collectively representing 10% of all such incidents statewide. Only one Ohio county has seen fewer than 100 deer-related crashes since 2019, emphasizing the widespread nature of the issue.
The patrol advises drivers to scan the road, especially at dawn and dusk, when deer are most active. They also recommend using high beams when possible to improve visibility, and, in the event of a deer suddenly appearing, brake firmly rather than swerving, to help maintain control.
A map detailing the state’s deer-related crash data is available for further insights on affected areas.

🏈 Playoff Grudge Match: Mentor vs. Strongsville for Regional Semifinal Spot

Strongsville vs. Mentor
Matchup: Strongsville Mustangs (7-4) at Mentor Cardinals (11-0)
Division: I, Region 1 Quarterfinal
Date & Time: November 8 @ 7pm
Location: Jerome T. Osborne Stadium, Mentor, Ohio
Game Overview
The Strongsville Mustangs travel to Mentor to face the undefeated Cardinals in a highly anticipated rematch. This playoff showdown will determine which team advances to the Division I Region 1 semifinals, with the winner moving on to face either Massillon Jackson or Canton McKinley in the next round.
Season Recap & Recent Wins
In Week 9 of the regular season, Mentor defeated Strongsville 44-17 on the Mustangs' home turf. Since then, both teams have continued to excel. Last week, Mentor powered through St. Ignatius with a decisive 31-7 victory, while Strongsville prevailed over Cleveland Heights, 31-14.
Mentor's strong defense played a critical role against St. Ignatius, with key performances from Spencer Barninger, Caden Clair, and their defensive unit holding their opponent to just a single score. Offensive standouts included quarterback Scotty Fox, who passed for 156 yards and two touchdowns, and Jackson Farey, whose 92 rushing yards brought him close to the impressive 1,500-yard mark for the season. Justen Hodge also contributed with two touchdown receptions.
Strongsville showcased its powerful ground game against Cleveland Heights, racking up 247 rushing yards. Key running back Sam Dimacchia led the offense with 177 yards and two touchdowns, giving the Mustangs hope to control the clock and limit Mentor’s offensive time on the field. Strongsville may also regain the services of Kendrick Boddie, adding more depth to their backfield.
Summary
Strongsville’s defense will be put to the test again, having allowed 44 points to Mentor in their last meeting. A tighter defensive showing will be essential if the Mustangs hope to contain Mentor’s potent offense and keep the game within reach.
This Region 1 quarterfinal presents a challenging rematch between two familiar teams. Strongsville’s strategy will likely focus on clock management through a strong rushing attack, while Mentor will aim to maintain their undefeated streak with a balanced, disciplined approach on both sides of the ball.
🏈 Lake Catholic, Mogadore Field Set for High-Stakes Rematch in Playoffs

Mogadore Field vs. Lake Catholic
Matchup: Lake Catholic (11-0) against Mogadore Field (9-2)
Division: IV, Region 13 Quarterfinal
Date & Time: November 8 @ 7pm
Location: Riverside Stadium, Painesville, Ohio
The Mogadore Field Falcons will face off against the undefeated Lake Catholic Cougars in what promises to be an intense rematch of last year's first-round playoff game, which Lake Catholic won 38-14.
Lake Catholic enters the matchup on the heels of a dominant 42-14 win over Ravenna last week. The Cougars’ high-powered offense, averaging over 30 points per game, is led by standout quarterback Frankie Trinetti, who has passed for 2,509 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. His key target, Ace Peterlin, has logged 57 receptions for 811 yards, while running back Jimmy Gibbons is just shy of a 1,000-yard rushing season. Gibbons, along with defenders Luke Joy and Jayson Cummings, anchors a robust defense for Lake Catholic.
Field, fresh off its first-ever postseason win, a 24-16 victory over Lutheran East, faces a challenging task against Lake Catholic's elite defense. Running back Drexal McAmis, who rushed for 200 yards in last week’s game, will be crucial for Field’s offense. Known for his physical, downhill running style, McAmis will test the Cougars’ run defense, as Field aims to control the game tempo with its ground attack to keep Lake Catholic’s offense off the field.
The winner of tonight’s showdown will advance to face either West Branch or Glenville in the regional semifinals.
