🌾 Great Lakes Ports Offer Vital Alternative for U.S. Grain Exports

Maumee River, Toledo, Ohio
The Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway offer a crucial alternative route for U.S. grain exports, supporting farmers in the Midwest. In 2023, nearly 10.5 million tons of grain were shipped via this waterway, helping alleviate strain on congested coastal and river ports. With the Mississippi River’s water levels reducing barge capacity, the Great Lakes could further develop as a reliable export channel. Toledo’s port, a major Great Lakes grain hub, has significant storage and adaptable transport options, positioning it as a key player in supporting regional and global agricultural trade.

📰 Ease Neck Pain with These 9 Stretches for Lasting Relief

Neck pain is a common complaint, affecting one in three people annually, with women experiencing it more often than men. Daily habits like prolonged computer use can lead to tension and discomfort, but experts believe that the root cause often lies with gravity. Our bodies constantly counteract the downward pull of gravity, and poor posture can exacerbate strain on the neck as it works to keep our heads stable.
Addressing neck pain can be as simple as incorporating targeted stretches, although it's crucial to make posture adjustments as well. According to health experts, alternating your sitting position or using ergonomic setups like sit-stand desks can help. Additionally, breathing exercises that improve core stability may reduce neck strain, allowing muscles to relax more effectively.
For minor to moderate neck pain, these stretches can be beneficial. However, if pain is severe or symptoms include sharp pain, numbness in the arms, or limited neck mobility, it's important to seek medical attention. Minor discomfort that doesn’t improve after a week or two of consistent stretching might also warrant a doctor’s visit.
The suggested exercises range from flexing and extending the neck to side bends and rotations, designed to increase flexibility and alleviate tightness. Experimenting with various movements can help identify which stretches are most effective. For long-term results, experts suggest doing a few minutes of stretching multiple times a day rather than one extended session. Using video feedback, you can track improvements in your range of motion, helping to pinpoint the best exercises to reduce your neck pain over time.
